With the help of a rescue org. I was finally able to get the mama and 2 kittens we've been feeding since Dec. They will be fixed and vaccinated and then released back here. These programs are wonderful. In a shelter, these cats would be euthanized. As long as they stop reproducing and are vaccinated, they can have happy lives now. My parents took care of 3 feral cats for over 10 years.

I have a feral thats been coming here for a couple of years now. We cant catch her. Weve tried trapping and still no luck. She really likes me now and will even let me pet her but no way am I trying to get a hold of her. She's pregnant again. I have in the past been able to trap her kittens and take them in.

We had a cat living in the garage which wouldn't come close to us. Wasn't certain if it was male or female - really fluffy. We used a live trap and took it to the vet to have shots and be fixed. Turned out to be a male. Kept it caged for a few days then turned loose - really never expected to see it again. Low and behold he came right up to us once out of the cage and was purring and very friendly. We named him GC - Garage Cat. We moved him inside now that he is older - he loves it. All three of my cats were "left" here by someone.

Our marsh islands are plentiful with feral cats. There are a couple of groups that feed/vaccinate/release them to take care of them. Some of them have a pretty good life! There is a store that has kitty condos outside their shop for about 6 cats. The Publix near me has a huge apricot kitty that is really sweet and he gets petted by everyone that goes into the store. Luckily, aside from a few cold snaps, it doesn't get that cold here for them. They used to have a shelter built by the Publix, but it is now gone.

They become much more "tame" since Dec. but they don't let us touch them IF THEY SEE OUR HANDS. We've snuck in a few touches while they are distracted with eating but as soon as they notice they back up. At first they would not come near the house if they even SAW a person, they would only come eat if we were inside. Now they come upt and KNOCK on the door for food. They are really really beautiful too...green eyes...mama and one kitten are light grey striped and other kitten is a smokey grey.
