Has anyone done this

It's allowed in checked luggage but not a carry-on. Normal TSA rules for liquids apply to all carry-ons. If you're going to do this, might want to wrap it in plastic bags in case something breaks. That way your suitcase (and everyone else's) doesn't suffer the consequences of bottle breakage.

Yes, you can. But, it can really add to the bag weight. And, it can cause a mess. The few times I've packed a beverage in my checked bag (alcohol), I wrapped the bottle in a towel, then put that in a ziplock plastic bag. Then into a second plastic bag and wrap the whole thing up in another towel. Excessive? Probably. But I hate the thought of the bottle breaking, soaking my stuff, as well as any bags close to mine!
For soda or water? I just have it delivered. Yes, there's a delivery charge but it's worth it.

Might even be worth investigating what's available at the destination. Disney resorts well bottled water at a relatively reasonable price.

Each half liter weighs about a pond, so twelve extra pounds in a suitcase might put it over the airlines weight limit.

I don't pack drinks because of the weight issue but I wholeheartedly pack one entire suitcase full of food. Our flight is 1 hr. 20 mins so I even freeze meat and take it (wrap it in towels). Perishables are SO expensive in the area because .....well, because they can. I freeze bacon, sausage, steaks, hamburger, hot dogs, precook eggs and freeze them (the price of eggs was ungodly down there), and sandwich meat. It literally saves hundreds of dollars over the course of a week or so.

When I fly somewhere I usually pack a few bottles of water, apple juice, and nesquick chocolate milk (does not need to be refrigerated until opening. Still can't understand why because it does say it contains real milk but whatever lol.) in my checked luggage because its cheaper to buy it at home than say at the Disney resorts and I'm not a morning person so I like to have items at the ready in my hotel room.
I buy large ziploc bags to put the drinks in in case they leak so they don't ruin my clothes but its never happened.

Yes, you can pack beverages in your checked bags. A couple things: You are going to want to double bag them in ziploc bags or something in case a bottle breaks/explodes/leaks. And you are going to need to be careful of the weight. Bottled water gets very heavy, very fast, and if you have to pay for an over weight bag, you won't be saving any money.

If you are going to Disney, buy a case of water in the gift shop at the resort. A case costs under $10 for the 24 pack.

Have you bought it recently? I thought about a year ago, they no longer had the 24 packs. I believe they are 8 packs for about $4.

Where are you shopping??? Unless you’re shopping at Goodings or Whole Foods, I can’t see how FL is that expensive.

We hit publix and Trader Joe’s and we’re good and we’ve saved money vs home.

Ooh ooh ooh, I can answer this. That's because it is UHT milk. The quick definition you can find on Google is:

UHT stands for Ultra High-Temperature Pasteurization (also referred to as Ultra Pasteurization or UP) and means that milk is heated to about 280 degrees F for 2 seconds, which kills more bacteria (both good and bad) than traditional pasteurization therefore giving the milk a much longer shelf life before it spoils.

Anytime you see milk being sold that's not in the refrigerated section, it's UHT milk. I personally love the stuff, because it is great to pack when traveling! I almost packed some for our Disney trip, but then I discovered how easy it was to just order regular milk (and other foods) when we got there, so we did that instead.

I have shopped at Publix (which is also a more expensive chain in TN too so I avoid it here), Walmart, and there was another store I can't remember the name of. It was off 192 near Windsor Hills. Omg it was insane.

Your experience may be due to where you live. I have also visited CA and found their food prices to be off the wall. FL may be cheaper for you if you live in an area with a high COL. But if I live in an area with a lower COL then FL would be more expensive to me.
