Has anyone done the Kualoa Movie Tour & Chief's Luau Combo on the same day?

Hi All,

We've been planning our trip for over 15 months, and now we're a week away. Eeekk!! Since Aulani got rid of the Starlit Hui, and their new luau doesn't start until next month, I've been forced to look into luaus at the last minute.

After TONS of research, we've decided on Chief's Luau at Sea Life Park. When I went to book our Kualoa movie tour on the Hawaii Discount website, I saw that they have a combo package with the Chief's luau for a reasonable price. They're giving me the option to do them both on the same day, or on different days. Since I know it's quite a drive from Aulani, I'd love to get it over with in the same day, but I'm worried that it will be too long of a day. We would do the movie tour at 3, then the luau from 5-8:30. Is that crazy?

Does anyone know if you get "dirty" on the movie tour? I noticed that the bus has no windows, so I'm worried that we might get dirty. We'd like to go to the luau in dresses, but not sure if that's appropriate attire for the movie tour. Hope this makes sense.

Anyone??? TIA!!

We did the movie tour a few days ago. We also did the 1 hour horseback ride and the catamaran ride. We didn't get dirty at any point. Basically anything is ok for the movie tour as its just a bus ride with a couple of stops. The movie tour is an hour and a half long, then you have to drive from Kualoa to the sea life park, they aren't close together really so you would likely be cutting it a bit close. Personally, I would book the Fia Fia luau at the Marriott resort that is in Ko Olina. Its an easy walk down a path by the lagoon from Aulani, they run it on Tuesdays and its a great time. Then no one has to drive back from the Luau late at night after having a couple of drinks. We did Fia Fia two days ago and highly recommend it

I have a full review of the movie tour in my trip report here:

I found it really worth it as I love movies and tv! I'm someone that sees 50+ movies in theaters a year, my husband watches about half of those with me in the theater and then he watches a ton online. One thing that is cool afterwards is that when you are watching movies you can then tell if they are filmed there (like when I saw Snowden in the theaters the other week)

We did the VIP Movie Tour which is 2 and a half hours long in an air conditioned van, with a smaller group. We found this one to be worth it if you're a movie buff interested in seeing the sets - we got to go inside the Indominous Rex pen from Jurassic World which was awesome. I'm not sure what the regular movie tour consists of but I'd assume it's only the biggest/best sites they have. If you are going soon, they are filming the Jumanji remake there now and we got to see it in action, and also saw the Rock and Kevin Hart pull up!

FWIW, the regular movie tour is in a bus so while you won't get dirty, you probably will be sweaty/warm. There's no AC from what I could see.

Thanks for this info. I didn't realize that they weren't close together. Do you know approximately how far apart they are? I can do an earlier movie tour, but wondering how long it will take to get to Sealife Park.

I looked into Fia Fia and would love to do that luau, but it was more than double the price of the Chief's with the combo package. I like the fact that Fia Fia is so close to Aulani. :(

......when I type them into google maps it tells me its a 41 minute drive...then it is also a 50 minute drive from Sea Life Park to Aulani after the show ends (so you would arrive at Aulani around 9:30...if you are from the Eastern time zone like me that is 3:30am so jet lag is a big factor on that drive also)...when you compare the price be sure to note that Fia Fia comes with 2 drinks. Not sure what chiefs comes with but they make them strong so the walking distance of Fia Fia is nice

I think it was. I mean if you are flying all the way to Hawaii you want to see things not just sit at a hotel in my mind so just about anything is worth it. That said, nowhere is close to Aulani so if you are driving all the way out to Kualoa I wouldn't really suggest doing only the movie tour. Its better to make a day out of it in my opinion than to drive an hour, get on tour for an hour and a half, and then drive back for an hour

Thanks for this info. I also checked the distance on google and changed our movie tour to 2pm to give us plenty of time to get to the luau. We're from the West Coast so the time shouldn't affect us too much. Also, my husband doesn't drink at all, and I only occassionally have a drink, so that's not an issue. I would LOVE to do Fia Fia instead of Chief's, but the price difference is huge. We're getting the movie tour AND Chief's Luau for cheaper than just the Fia Fia luau.
