Has anyone disembarked a cruise at NYC on the Magic before?

Hi there

Just wondering if anyone can help. We disembark the Magic in NYC this September and are wondering about timescales for getting to Newark. Ship docks at 7.30 am, so expecting to be ready to dash off around 8 am.

We've been on the Magic in NYC before, so know the location of the ship in the City and have chosen EWR as the preferred airport.

There are 2 flights we can catch. 11.55 or 14.29 that day. We would prefer to go for 11.55 to be honest, rather than sitting around EWR for hours until 3 pm.

I know we will attempt to get off the ship first with our own bags, the only question I really have is the immigration set up when we get off the ship. Does anyone have any experience of how efficient this was for non-US citizens? Just wondering if this will be a quick process or will take hours.

TIA

It took me a hour to get to the New Jersey tunnel that was about a mile from the port, They were doing road construction and it was a weekday and it was right at rush hour. It was terrible. what does DCL recommend about flight times? I live in south jersey so usually fly out of philly only flew from Newark a couple of times. 11:55 should be fine. but you never know. Customs could clear the ship late. Traffic nightmare.

You can never count on things to go smoothly in NYC. When we disembarked there, it was shockingly smooth- but it was just that- a complete surprise. And to throw immigration in the mix- all it takes is one family in front of you to really slow things down. EWR has improved quite a bit over the last few years so it's not as horrible to sit around in as it used to be. If it were me, I'd take the later flight.

Wait. Are you getting on an international flight? In that case I'd go with the later one.

As long as there are no delays making it into port and you disembark as soon as you can you should be good with the first flight.

If you're international, I would do the 1400 flight. Just to be on the safe side.

Go with the latest flight. We sailed the Magic in 2012 to Canada and since I went straight to work, we disembarked as soon as I could. The line to get through customs was long. It moved quickly, but I work on the west side, a mile and a half from the port and I still didn't get to work until 9:30. Add to that it signs like you have to deal with international issues and traveling to Newark, you'd be cutting it close for an 11:55 flight. Why stress?
