Has anyone decorated their Magic Bands? Please show us the pictures!

I was inspired by everyone on here, and hockeymom, who is insanely talented. Chip and Figment are free-drawn with nailpolish, and Ariel is a tattoo that I embellished after putting it on the band. Also - the ariel band was originally pink, but I used purple to cover it.

And these were the final ones. The middle one is my DD4's - she wanted to do one herself, and we had so many that I figured, why not. It ended up looking kind of cool and stainglass-y.

And yes, the castle is a blatant attempt to copy hockeymom's amazing castle band. I am nowhere near as talented, but I love it just the same.

For those using tattoos, and looking to get good color saturation even on dark bands, I tried the plastic bag method mentioned in a much earlier post, but wasn't successful. For a couple of the bands, I just painted white under it, and then blended it with another light color to create a faded technique (Mulan and Elsa I did this way). I did it with the Anna band too, but then went back and traced, very carefully, in purple around her.

However, for my last attempt at Ariel, I found that if I removed the plastic sheet that covers the tattoo, and then very carefully covered the image with white nail polish, I could still transfer the tattoo fairly successfully to the magic band. However, I say "fairly", because I tore two tattoos before I was successful. You also have to make sure that the white nailpolish is totally dry (think at least an hour), before trying to do a transfer.

Can't wait to try them out in the parks starting tomorrow!!!!! YAY!!!

Princessekrus, thanks for the shout out.

Your bands look great. I really love how you combined the tattoos and free hand painting. Very cool.

We're flying in on Wednesday. I'm looking forward to breaking out the new bands too. :)

I will keep an eye out for your amazing bands, have a fabulous time!

Very cute! Can I ask what you used to do the polka dots on the red one? That's what I want to do with mine when I get it!

I used just white acrylic paint and the end of my paintbrush. Just dipped it in and dotted it along! It was the easiest one. I just used a white gel pen to outline the mickey head in the middle. :)

Thanks guys! Anyone interested to find out who painted them please PM me I'm not sure I can post the info here it might be against the rules. The decals were from myfantasybands.com!
I just pm'd you! Hope you don't mind! Love your bands! They are beautiful!

Thank you! That's what I was planning to do, I just don't want to mess it up! :rotfl2:

When using acrylic paint, do you use a base and if so, what do you use. I'm still trying to figure out if acrylic is the way to go or not.

Can anyone tell me what to use to seal the bands after I decorate them? My bands are on their way and I have the decorations picked out for each of them. My only problem is I don't know how to seal them. I read that clear polish and modge podge crack... is this true? Anyone have success with any other type of sealer?

The general consensus seems to be to seal them with clear base coat. Top coat and Mod Podge crack but base coat does not. I have done one that I sealed with base coat. I have not worn it yet but it seems like it is going to work well.

I LOVE all of your magic bands!! Can you tell me what you used for a base coat and top coat and how many coats you used? Also, how well did they hold up in the parks?

Thank you for the info! :)

Only my first set of bands have been used in the parks so far. They were just painted with nail polish and not sealed. My DD's Avenger band lasted about a month of constant wearing (she wore it to school every day) until one of the snaps broke. The polish has some wear spots but it still looks good.

The bands I have been doing recently are acrylic paint with a nail polish base coat covering them (probably 3-4 coats). We have been wearing them around the house a bit, but they haven't seen any park time yet. What I have found is that if they are going to crack it is near the holes, especially if you make them kid sized.

We are leaving for a 10 day trip on Wednesday. I'll post band updates when we return.

Magic bands are on the way.:dance3: Ok, I've got the tattoos and base coat. Now I need all of you great designers advice. There is a lot of post to have to go back through and read up on. However, I've tried following all along and getting tips which I should have been writing down what works and hasn't worked. Do I put the base coat on 1st and let dry then apply tattoo? Do I just lay the tattoo on and rub with wet cloth like I would if it was on the skin? After applying tattoo I apply base coat again? If I want glitter polish when is the best time to apply it, directly on top of tattoos or apply base coat 1st then glitter polish? If I decide to paint the bands with acrylic paint, I paint the band with acrylic, base coat, tattoo, glitter polish and base coat?? If steps or wrong or I need additional steps added please let me know.

TIA

I have Minnie tattoos and I was planning on putting them on a grey band so they show up but now I am thinking that may not be the best color. Any thoughts? This is my first time.

Actually it depends on what kind n how the saturation of color on the temporary tattoos are. I have used Star Wars n now spider man ones for my husbands two gray MB n they actually Pop n look really good. But like I said its all in the tattoos... Not all MB colors are actually the best. I have a total of 15 MB n have noticed the worst colors are the green and red ones that have not worked too good with temp tattoos. Hth

Colour for band question.

I got the magic band decals from myfantasy before Disney found her but how should I pick which colour would look best?

I am getting a mickey, donald, the cars one (half lightening half mater) and a monster's inc one.

TIA

If you plan on wearing them all the same band then I don't think it matters which color you get but individually, I think red would go with the Mickey and cars, blue would work with Donald and blue or green for the monsters inc.

Try to choose the opposite colors of what characters you have chosen. I tried to use belle for a yellow MB n you couldn't even see her so I had to put Ariel instead. I learned to always use the opposite color MB with the characters I have chosen to decorate them with. The red MB was the hardest for me to decorate because of the colors n how transparent most temp tattoos are. HTH

Can someone please tell me how to get the tattoos onto the magic bands? Do I do it as if I were applying it to skin?
Do I need to wait until the base coat is totally dry before adding tattoo or does base coat need to be sticky?
TIA
