I really just need to gripe. LOL.

Great concept. Lousy execution.

For starters, Anne and Beau are probably the worst hosts in the history of hosts. They are SO rude. It's bad enough on a reality show when the contestants think they're good at something and they get criticized. But the whole point of this show is that these people can't cook. So berating them for doing something wrong is just evil.

AND... why are they taking people who can't cook and trying to turn them into chefs? So they got some food on the edge of the plate. Who cares?? They're not looking to open their own restaurant for crying out loud.

So aggravated. And yes, I know that's totally irrational because it's just a show.

;)

I know someone on here must watch it, and I just needed to get that off my chest.

i watch it. I find it funny. I LOVE to cook and I know it must be true but I find it funny that these people cannot cook at all.

ITA! I just sit there and ask "How can you not know how to ______?"

We watch it here. We crack up laughing all the time. I can't believe how bad they are. They are learning though so I will give them that. The running joke in the house is "pineapple for crunch." :rotfl2: I have a sister like them. Everything she cooks is from a can or a box and has directions. Sometimes she can still screw that up.

I watch too! I agree with OP though - they didn't seem to really start out "slow" or anything - just threw them right in. I know you only see a small portion but I thought the "skills challenge" thing they did this week should have been more at the beginning???? It seems like they would work on the skills and try to make easier stuff. Who cooks on the flat top grills from the hybatchi (sp?) place they were at last week?? Something that they might actually use or have come in contact with might have made more sense then worked up to something a bit more challenging.

I watch it and enjoy it but the thing that bothered me was giving the contestants a shorter time and clock in which to cook during. They are the worst so most people would think they would at least need a little extra time...

I like Anne. I don't much like Beau. He reminds me of someone I know, but without the sense of humor.

I think I can suspend my disbelief and still have fun with it even though I think most of the contestants are actors.

I like Anne on Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, but I agree with the OP, they both seem kind of mean to these people.

The DDs and I are watching. It's pretty funny but I agree that they are taking a weird approach to the teaching.

I watch it and enjoy it, but I can't help to think that the challenges they're giving these poor people are a bit unrealistic. I consider myself pretty average in the cooking department, but if you shoved me in front of a teppanyaki, gave me a 30 minute time limit and said, "Here, cook or be cooked!", I'd be fumbling around and making lots of mistakes too, and here they're asking this of people who have never even chopped an onion before. Then when it's a disaster, the chefs are disappointed and overly critical. :confused3

Oh well, that's 'reality' competition tv for ya! Doesn't stop me from watching, I guess. ;)

I'd make fried rice - I've seen them do it bunches of times at Benihana!! :rotfl:

I won't watch the show. I agree that it's unrealistic to expect these people to be able to cook something like tepenyaki when they can't even boil water.

The point of the show is a competition between Anne and Beau. They each selected 6 people for the other's team. They picked the worst of the worst. Then they have to teach them and eliminate one a show to get down to one. If they can teach that person well enough to convince a panel of judges that the dish actually was prepared by them, they win.

The student of the chef who wins gets $25,000. As a bonus, they got a lot of instruction from a real chef.

Well, I just tried watching the second episode and I turned it off halfway through. I won't finish watching this series.

These two are unbelievably rude and full of themselves. At this point, I wouldn't eat at one of their restaurants if someone paid me. I'd like to see them knocked down a couple pegs.

The way they're treating those contestants is shameful.

Someone mentioned earlier in the thread that they have a relative who only cooks from boxes or printed recipes. What's wrong with that?

I really don't like Anne. Mean and unattractive, does not a pretty package make!:headache:

Exactly.

Oh, easily! If it can't be microwaved or heated in a pan on the stove, I don't know how to make it :umbrella:

That's not something to be ashamed of. If cooking isn't your thing... then it just isn't. I enjoy cooking because it's fun and I find it kinda therapeutic... no so I can make other people feel bad because I'm "better" than they are.
