We are going on the Mar. 28 Wonder and are trying to decide what to do in Nassau. Can't find anyone who has done the snorkel excursions so we are considering just taking the bus to a beach. Have read some good things about Cabbage beach near the Atlantis or Cable beach to the west of the port. Anybody been who can give me some details??

Hasn't anyone been to either of these beaches??? or on the snorkeling excursions?? Any advice?

We went to Cable Beach (the one near Atlantis, right?) last year. I was not that impressed, although there are many people on this board who love it. I found it to be a bit dirty, too many people selling things/renting chairs/hair braiding etc. The surf was a bit much for the kids and there are no places to rinse off before getting back in the cabs. The Atlantis tour was nice though.

I'd like to try the Blue Lagoon Beach Day. It sounds nice. My suggestion, save the beach for beautiful Castaway Cay. It's SO much nicer! We are not huge beach people so hopefully someone else will have another opinion.

I’m currently grappling with this same question (we sail in May). I don’t have any first-hand experience with either of these beaches, but I’ve heard from friends that both of these beaches can have relatively high surfs (not suitable for kids). I’ve heard that Cabbage Beach (near Atlantis) can get very high waves, while Cable Beach is slightly more placid. I suppose this depends greatly on the weather at the time. Another option you may want to consider is to take the Atlantis Beach Day excursion which gives you access to the Paradise Cove area at Atlantis. From what I understand, this cove is still part of the ocean but significantly protected from the high waves (and large sea animals if you know what I mean). As a result, it seems much more suited to a relaxing day at the beach (especially with young kids). Good luck!!

We went to Cabbage Beach in November and the surf was very rough. I spent just a few minutes in the water before being flipped over by the surf head over heels. It was very scary. When I got out of the water an older gentleman told us that the red flags at the hotels nearby meant we shouldn't be out in the water.

If I go to Nassau again I will go back to Blue Lagoon Beach which we enjoyed very much a few years back.
