Has Anyone Been to Baie Longue ( Long Bay) in St. Maarten?

It looks very nice and I was just wondering if anyone had been there and if you can rent beach chairs/umbrellas at any of the hotels? How is it for kids? Thanks!

La Samanna is at the eastern end of this beach and controls access at this point. Continue along the road next to the ponds, fording the sewage spewing from La Samanna, and a parking lot will appear on the left. There is a fenced passage onto the western end of the beach. Bay Long suffered from Luis, losing a lot of sand. The end toward La Samanna was rebuilt (money solves most problems), but this end can have a lot of rock formations rather than beach. Find a patch of sand and enjoy yourself. The rocks are beautiful and the sunset is magnificent. Note that you will have to bring your own amenities on this section of the beach.

Lenny came from the east, hitting the western side of SXM badly. Cupecoy has very little sand as the waves scoured everything until they hit the cliffs, even taking a bit of them. At Bay Long the waves just continued to chew on the sand, removing 20-30 feet in places. As there were no rock cliffs, this just moved the beach back toward the houses. In some cases they moved the beach under the houses, tilting them precariously. There is beach, but there also are piles of sand and construction equipment building massive walls. Being the Caribbean, work does not proceed too quickly, so the noise and commotion is not much of a bother and it still goes on in 2001.

This is another of the island's great beaches, with long unbroken stretches of white sand and thick foliage. There is considerable privacy here.
