Has anyone been to Disney recently? We are normally frequent Disney-ers. We were supposed to go last august but pandemic happened. I have to decide by end of today if we still want to go through with this august, staying at the cabins at fort wilderness. Im still on the fence. I want to go so badly but I’m conflicted if it’s worth it if it’s not the normal Disney we are used too. So I was looking for some insight on anyone who’s been recently? Thanks in advance!

I haven't (I'm in the trip-planning process for next year), but plenty of other people have! Check out the Trip Reports forum on these boards for a lot of stories, anecdotes, and pictures of people's recent Disney trips.

There's all kinds of other conversation around the boards about the pros and cons of going right now, too, so go ahead and skim the threads in the Fort Wilderness and Parks forums and such.

Since you're trying to decide quickly, though, here's my overall impression, and maybe others can add theirs: Most facilities are back to "normal" in the recovering-from-pandemic sense, with some exceptions (character meet-and-greets, most shows, a handful of restaurants, FastPass+, etc.). However, prices are the same or higher than before, crowds are up, and discounts are scant, so the value-to-cost ratio right now isn't what you might be used to. Whether the downsides are worth the trip will probably depend on what you most enjoy about going and whether the things that are missing would've been the things you were looking forward to most. If you go mostly for rides, shopping, and the restaurants that are now open (the ones that are still closed are mostly the signature dining), and you're not too concerned about long lines, then you may be in the camp of people who will still have a great time!

We went in May…. Last day of masks so we had to wear them the whole time. That was a change obviously but it wasn’t to bad. I missed fireworks but they are back now. We don’t care much about live performers…. We are more ride focused so that did not bother us.

My biggest issue was not being able to go inside and sit in the AC without a mobile order at any of the quick service places…. And mobile orders were running 20-30 minutes out.the heat was crazy that week for May so this was hard sometimes you just need to duck in for a quick break and you don’t want to wait 30 minutes lol

Everything else was business as usual in my opinion.we are going back in august. Go for it!

Are you talking COVID in fla, central fla specifically ..concerns or just Disney ?

I have been twice since the pandemic (October last year and Feb this year).

The experience is definitely different from the Disney of old. You need to remember it's a different Disney, but if you can get past that, I still say the experience is "worth it". Both trips were terrific and the family had a great time!

I see you might be staying at the Fort Wilderness Cabins… bugs are bad right now in Florida. Somebody on dis recently recommended this product along with drinking lots of water. It might be new on market

P.s. I hope you decided to keep plans… it’s only going to get more crowded and more expensive… and what is your other plan?

please read the last 4-5 pages of this very active/ongoing "just back" thread - the experiences people are having this summer - right now - are very different from May and earlier. You might find it super valuable, as many are describing what they are finding in great detail. It will either convince you to cancel or to go, depending upon what might concern you the most/least. It's also the best place to ask your questions.

Yes, more covid related. I was just wondering how it was lately but not going to lie, the Florida numbers are making me very nervous but we decided to go ahead and go for it.

we decided to go, but moved to wilderness lodge. Can’t say that I’m not extremely nervous about the covid numbers. But we ended up paying for the trip as it was due. 👍

My daughter just had to cancel at very last minute trip to Hawaii(notDVC) and put together substitute beach trip to
AUTOCAMP Cape Cod for 10 days… she has texted It’s not Hawaii!
They are in AirStream Camper but can’t imagine 10 days with 2 kids.

We ended up keeping the plans! And moved us to wilderness lodge. I’m just getting very nervous about the numbers down there. Hoping for the best! 😳
I need my magic back. lol

We paid too but are cancelling today! You can still cancel or even just move your trip, thank goodness for that! . It looks like a total mess and not worth the money at all right now! Can’t believe how much info has changed since literally Friday when we paid 😬

Just moved our trip to 2022, got the refund of the money we paid and they kept the deposit. Your not locked in to going. I thought we were, just putting this out there!

I did cancel one trip for last August but only had a deposit on the room. Now, I was wondering, suppose I paid for my whole trip, minus airfare, would they reimburse my $$$$$. I have 9 days at CR Club Level, which will be open next year. It's a lot of money, so I was just wondering if you know the answer or knew someone that did. Thanks

Yes. We are 24 days from arrival. They refunded everything but the deposit minus $50 fee to live the trip to next year. You can currently cancel up to one day before arrival

We are going in October over fall break. We are staying off property and doing 2 days at MK. We got 3 R/T tickets from Omaha to MCO for $200/RT. There is no way we are cancelling. We are all vaccinated.

I’ve been twice this year: once in February and once at end of June. In Feb, we had to wear masks all the time, which was annoying at times, but we were soooooo happy to be there, our joy outweighed any inconvenience. I’m so glad we took that trip. (Just me and 10yo son).
In June we did a big family reunion. Kids under 12 wore masks, the rest of us were vaccinated. Another amazing trip. If we had a trip scheduled for august, I’m not sure what I would do. The covid numbers in Florida are very scary to me. But that’s a risk analysis everyone has to do for themself.

Service was not back up to Disney standards yet.
They were still understaffed and had lots of new people who don’t quite know what they’re doing. But we still had a great trip.
