Has anybody's teenager had to get glasses? Is it harder if they are getting them as teenagers vs younger kids?

DD just got hers this year and she is 11. I think I was exactly the same age when I got my first pair, too.

It is driving me crazy because hers are always dirty and she'll say, "but I can see fine!" So now I'm constantly telling to go clean them :D

Please do NOT get him transition lenses unless you want him to get teased relentlessly. Most kids will not bat an eye at typical glasses but transition lenses are definitely a target for teasing. It’s all over social media. Even my DH who doesn’t pay attention to any of this stuff immediately said “oh no. He’ll get made fun of” when I asked his thoughts.

Obviously just my 2 cents. But I really think he will have no trouble with regular glasses. So many have to wear them. And being able to see makes such a huge difference.

I can't remember her exact age, maybe 12 or 13, but my daughter got hit with the trifecta of things that can make you feel awkward: braces, a back brace for scoliosis and glasses.

She was a trooper and made the best of it by choosing glasses with a frame in her favorite color and we let her get transition lenses so she felt cool having them change to sunglasses when she went outside. Her back brace was printed with a colorful design of her choosing, so while not the most pleasant situation, she made the best of it.
