We just are about to finalize our purchase of 260 points with our home resort at the AKV. We are undecided on whether to take the 520 developer points or the $8 point discount.
It will be hard for us to use the developer points at a DVC resort before they expire but there are several locations listed on the Disney World collection in Colorado and New Mexico that are within driving distance and we have several avid snow skiers in the family.
Our concern/question is how hard is it to exchange these developer points for stays at a non-Disney resort if they are booked 6 months ahead of time? Personally I would much rather use the points at a DVC resort but with the 7month expiration time, our kid's school schedule and all the travel arrangements we would need that goal would be very difficult to reach.
