Has anybody ever cancelled a vacation home rental last minute??UPDATE:Lost my job....

That's awesome :thumbsup2 Good luck in the job~

Thanks.I've been on the job 3 days now and it's going good so far.Hopefully they like me enough to give me a 'permanant' position.I'll know in a few weeks and I'll let you know.

Well I walked into work this morning just to have my supervisor let me know that the Co-Pay money was short.I am in charge of collecting co-pays and putting them in the box.Well it looks like I put down a co-payment that they could not find the money for in the box. It's $15 short. So I have to call the patient today to see if he did indeed give me that co-pay or if I put it down as paid and never collected it.
If he did in fact give it to me then the money is coming up missing. Not good.It really upsets me because it feels like the kiss of death for me as far as being made permanant.Today is only my 4th day....Geesh...this would have to happen.
I'm not a thief but they don't know me from Sam.....
I'll let you know what happens.
Debbie

Surely they realize that it was an honest mistake. Who's going to risk losing their job over $15? Good luck to you!

Thanks JustinsMama.Well I did call the patient and as I figured he did give me the money. So the money is missing. She did ask me about it and said she was trying to figure out how the money went missing.I just don't know.I did not take the money.Like you said why would I risk a job I have been waiting so long for on $15??
Wether they think I took it or not really doesn't make any difference....the bottom line is I look like a thief.
This is the worst thing that could happen right now.
My chances have turned from 'very good' to 'very slim' for permanant now.

I'm sorry you're having to go through this. Please don't give up hope. It may be just as important as how you handle something like this as it is whether or not it happened. It takes a lot of time and effort for a company to hire someone and train them....most "temporary" trials are just a formality. So put on your happy face, do your best, and we'll be hoping and praying that it all works out okay. By the time your trial is up this incident may be long forgotten, especially if they like everything else about you. Hugs.

Just wanted to send you a  . Just keep doing a great job and things may go your way. Perhaps it will turn up somewhere later. I own a business and I would not fire someone over $15.00. Heres a little pixie dust:tink:

Whenever I've paid the co-pay at the doctor/dentist they have always written a receipt. Both our doc/dentist use the kind where a carbon writes a line on the ledger sheet. I would imagine that all offices would have to have some type of receipt/accounting. They should be able to easily see if the patient paid the co-pay or if being a newbie you simply forgot to ask for it. That has also happened to me.....and I usually get a bill in the mail for the co-pay because either they forgot to ask for it and I forgot to offer it....or once I didn't have any cash or my check book. The doc charges a service charge for paying via credit, so they agreed to bill me instead.

I totally understand your nervousness being your first week.....but keep your chin up, you know you didn't steal it, so there is a simple explanation for it and then you can apologize for the error in not collecting it, offer to send a bill to the customer or call them to request they send payment.

Yes I am trying to keep focused and do my job without thinking about the missing money. Now every morning I go into work I'm going to wonder wether she is going to find more money missing from the day before.I can only hope not.I was very careful when handling the money from patients and the petty cash drawer yesterday.
The thing is those drawers are left unlocked all day long. And there are 4 other people besides myself that has access to them. Not a good situation.
Hopefully it works out for the best.
Thanks for your good wishes and suggestions.

Well I was told yesterday that it was my last day. They said they hired someone for permanant full time.So I'm out of a job.It wasn't totally unexpected.I kinda knew the moment she said money was missing I wasn't long for that position. But I at least thought it would last the 4 week trial period.I really enjoyed this receptionist position alot and hopefully I'll be able to find another one like it really soon.
Thanks everyone for listening.
Debbie

Well, sometimes things just aren't meant to be.

Hang in there and you'll find the right situation!

Good luck.

Sorry about your bout of bad luck. Are you stil going to go to Disney and stay at the same place?

Thanks everybody for your responses and good wishes. No we aren't going to Disney. We were going a week from this Monday but I cancelled the house, airline tickets and rental car as soon as I got this job.We are just going to reschedule.
I am putting my resume' in for a couple more jobs in a medical office.Hopefully I'll hear something from one of them.I need a job asap.My savings will only last a few months.
Like you guys said I'm sure something will come up.I'm just hoping sooner than later.

It doesn't sound like a good situation to me either. It seems like someone else in the office used the opportunity of having a new or temp hire around to help themselves to some ready cash. If that is the case, it probably is not a place you would want to be, although of course it is doubly disheartening because you needed the job.

Good luck, I think you made the right decision both times regarding your vacation.

Thanks Snowbunnie.I also have the feeling someone else slipped their hand into the cookie jar too.And what a better time than when a temp is hired and you know they'll get blamed for the missing money....It's too bad because I did not take that money and I would have been an excellent employee.Their loss.
I am glad we decided to put off the trip for a while.I'm still hoping to get another job soon then we'll see about rescheduling our trip to Disney.
