on the last night?

I've seen quite a few beautiful pics of Wilderness Lodge. Unfortunately, I can't afford it. I'm staying at Pop, which will be fine, all I need is a bed.

Anyway, knowing that I will want to go back to WDW in a couple of years, I'll probably stay at Pop again for financial reasons. But, I may splurge and book WL for the last night.

Has anyone done this just for the heck of it? Knowing the money saved could be used/wasted somewhere else.

Webmaster, please delete this thread.

I reposted the thread with the right spelling.

Thanks!!!

I splurge whenver possible - even when I know I cannot really afford it and will be paying it off for awhile.

For me, a resort is much more than a place to sleep. Even for a short stay, sometimes esp for a short stay. I love having a balcony - I take time in the evening and early morning to sit on the balcony ...it seems to make the stay feel much longer than 3 or 4 nights and I feel I've been away at least 5 days.

There are times when I simply cannot afford this and so will stay at the POP - now that the POP is open I'd rather save money there than stay at a moderate - although I loved the moderates for years, now I seem to go with the POP or a Deluxe for the entire short stay.

A long stay I would try to stay at a deluxe for sure. Several poeple post that they like to change resorts, but I like to settle in and enjoy the stay.

It will be fun deciding where to stay even if you do it for a night or two at the end of your trip.
:)

As long as you'd be around WL for enough time to enjoy it, go for it! If you'll be at the parks until late and will leave early the next morning it doesn't seem worth it for one night. Maybe plan to check in at 3-5pm and then spend the rest of the evening there, enjoying the pool if the weather is warm, eat at Artist Point (if it's in the budget? or Whispering Canyon (I haven't eaten there, but it's supposed to be a fun place).

I splurged for the whole trip! Poly lagoon view for 8 nights!

But I know what you mean. We are "splurging" in a way on our last day. We are doing the "Keys to the Kingdom" tour of MK and eating at CRT the last full day we have in WDW.

But we will be pinching pennies for the next year to save up for our wedding, so this is our last hur-rah before we have to eat frank'n'beans every night for dinner...

but I don't think one night is enough...unless you plan on spending a lot of time at the Lodge versus the parks. I would splurge on two nights.

OR, think about this. Don't know how long you're staying but I would rather cut the trip short and stay at a Deluxe than stay at a Value. That's just me. We have stayed in value, moderate and Deluxe. Been doing deluxe since 1999 and we're totally hooked. Although it's quite expensive, we feel it's worth it. Life is short and vacation is special to us. Now, let me say that we never, ever and never will pay rack rate. We have APs and usually pay between $179 - $209 for a deluxe. Actually, we're staying at the Swan for the first time Thanksgiving weekend and we got $161. Not bad.

SPLURGE!!

My take is quite simple. We stayed in value of off site for years. One year we tried WL for a splurge.........My hubby has NEVER been so relaxed and content than at the Lodge. Now whenever we think of an escape that is what he asks for. We do not care if we give up a day in the parks to save $100. We have spent 24 hrs just at the Lodge and been happy as clams. He has decided he would rather spend 2 days on the raod each way and save the airfare to enable him to have his days at the Lodge......

What can I say? It is our respite from the world. If the world ends while I am there I die a happy woman..........

Do it.........Life is short........eat dessert first.

Our family thought we would never be able to stay on site. Last year, I had a business meeting in Orlando at an offsite motel. The rate at the offiste was the same as the rate for WL. So we stayed at WL since work would pay for my room.

We loved it so much; that we are going back next year and staying at WL again. To me and my wife; the resort is almost as much fun as the parks. Sometimes, we just ride the boat shuttles for fun. We love watching the water lights parade from our window. Walking the trail to Fort Wilderness, petting zoo, sing-a-long, smore roasting, etc.

Since work won't be paying for the second trip, the trick is watching for the discount room only codes. They saved us almost $1000 on our lodging bill. We ended up with a room for $119 a night. much better than the rack rate of $255.

Go for it!

We did this once at the end of a POR stay for just 1 night. We checked in early to WL & took whatever room was ready (we had a wood's view). We spent the entire day just enjoying the resort - it was wonderful! We rented mouse boats, hung out @ the pool, read on the balcony, ate dinner at Whispering Canyon, & took the boat to Fort Wilderness for the campfire & movie that evening. We made it back in time to watch the Electric Water Pageant & enjoy the hot tub. Go for it!;)
