Has a resort CM ever done anything outside their Disney role to make you smile?

I'm always amazed at how the Disney spirit takes over CMs in their roles, but I had to share the following story and see if anyone else had any fun "civilian" experiences with a CM.

In May, when we returned from a long day at MK, we went to pick up my car from the valet at GF. A CM who was around 18-20 drove my car up and I could hear the music with the doors closed, so the stereo was pretty loud. I recognized the song immediately. My party had left a cheesy dance CD in my car with the early 90s dance groove "Look Out Weekend" by Debbie Deb playing.
Well, since my car has such a great sound system, the CM had turned it up to enjoy his ride back! We almost fell over when he got out dancing around with a smile saying "YEAH SKATING RINK!!"
I guess he knew he could get away with it with three girls in their 20s. Too cute.

Its nice to see real people come out of those costumes.

One time an Aladdin at the no longer there Character Breakfast at the Soundstage restaurant at MGM saw my NY Rangers T-shirt and said that where he comes from in Agrabah they don't know about hockey but the game the night before he was told from a friend was great and did I see it and what did I think -- he heard about something called a goal made at the last minute to win the game etc and I thought it was sooooooooooo cute that he was obviously a Ranger fan who was just as happy about the win the night before as I was and wanted to talk about it and to not get out of character pretended he as Aladdin had no idea what this game of hockey was but a friend told him about it -- too cute!! That's kinda what you meant right??

Several years ago, when my niece was toddler, her parents bought her a small rubber figurine of one of the disney characters while in MK. On the ways to the buses to head back to CBR, she fell asleep and lost her "death grip" on it. Needless to say when she awoke and found it gone, she was very unhappy. When we got to CBR, I took her to the gift shop to see if we could find one just like it. The CM in the gift shop overheard us discussing which one was most like the one that was lost. When we took it to the register to pay, she said "No charge, you only pay once for a souvenir at WDW". It was a small gesture, but I have never forgotten her kindness and the beaming smile on my niece's face.

In the same trip as above, my friend and I boarded a bus in DTD headed for MK. We were one of few people on the bus and we were all tired and cranky women! The bus driver then took it as his opportunity to vent about the people he's had to deal with that day. It was like a therapy session. At first, we were surprised to hear this sweet old man going off on people, but then it was funny.
We also got off the Jungle Cruise and a CM ran up to me because I had on an LSU visor. Turns out he was from my town Slidell. He was asking me where I went to school and we knew the same people!
All together....ITS A SMALL SMALL WORLD!

Just recently (aug 2002) while at Gf we were swimming at the quiet pool in the evening. (at the time when there is no on duty life guard). One life guard was scrubbing the tiling with cleaner though. My dd (4yrs) was in a life jacket and swam up to the guard and asked him what he was doing.
He told her working late to clean etc . He asked her if she liked to swim and she said yes. As I was telling her to leave him be he told me it's ok. And continued to ask DD about swimming. he then challanged her to a short race telling her he'd beat her. Well she doggy paddled like a mad girl and he went verrrrry slow so she would win. then he told her since she was such a good swimmer and she beat him that she could be lifeguard and proceeded to put his whistle around her neck. she beamed ear to ear he let her keep it for a few 5 minutes since he wasn't officially on duty as guard. his name was Todd I think . I do remember his favorite memory was scrooge Mcduck though...She thought she was the coolest beating the lifeguard and all. the Disney "xtra" is still ou there

We have a family joke about how my daughter is going to marry one of the characters at the Garden Grill. All the characters always give her kisses and kneel on their knees whenever we visit the restaurant. During our last trip, my daughter had a broken leg. Not only did the characters kiss & beg her to marry them, Pluto picked her up and carried her around the restaurant.

During the same trip, it was my twin daughter and son's birthday. We had PS for CRT at 8 am and were in the park before it opened. During this time, new CMs were going thru training. The trainer noticed my daughter dressed up as Princess Aurora and wearing a birthday button. The trainer had the entire group of 30+ sing Happy Birthday to her as well as curtsey. Then when he brought her back over to us, he noticed my son also had a birthday button. The CM picked my son up. Propped him up on a bench and gave him the royal treatment too. It was an unforgettable memory. My kids standing on Main Street with smiles as big as can be.

3 CMs approached us outside of Test Track when we were debating about waitingin the 50 minute line or not(no FPs left). They offered us the chance to skip the line by singing the Mickey Mouse Club song out infront of TT. They even took my video camera and taped it for us, since they said all 7 of us HAD to sing it(DH wanted to tape it, to get out of singing). After our performance they went on talking to us,asking about our trip and what we have planned. One told us a great place to watch Illuminations and all kind of hints. They even told us all about the college program which 2 of them were doing. They were great!

OK guys, now I can REALLY say its a SMALL SMALL WORLD!
I work for a university in public information and I was covering a career fair today. Of course, I was immediately drawn to the Disney booth, where students were recruiting other students for the college program. As I was interviewing one, he said he worked the Jungle Cruise, among other attractions. I asked his hometown and he said SLIDELL!!! It was the same little guy from my above post and he remembered me! Isn't that crazy???
He gave me some Mickey stickers for my trip in two weeks! Looks like CMs take their job above and beyond the call of duty in the World.

Last time we went to WL for food at the Whispering Canyon. It was getting late so we hung around with the DDs to soak up the atmosphere.

There was a CM on the Pin cart who chatted to us and gave us a whirlwind tour of all the hidden mickeys at WL!

He was very enthusiastic and knew his stuff - this made the visit VERY special to us.

On our DS's first visit to WDW in 1992 (he was 3), it was VERY cold. He refused to wear his winter coat, and was very frightened of the characters. Donald Duck was about his size, and came over and helped him into his coat. Donald helped him get over his fear of characters, too - The next day he saw one of Cinderella's mice, and looked right up under her skirt to find out just what was inside there!

One of our favorite Disney memories!

This summer we got a little overheated at Epcot. (Mommy especially - I had to run from China to WS gate to give my son the extra car keys so he could get to the golf course- he locked his in the car!!! Then run back to China where dd was waiting at restaurant!)

We ended up over by the Beavertails later and bought a soda to share & a Beavertail to split. We sat on a curb in the shade under a tree near England. One of the security fellows must have thought we looked a little 'red' or 'deep fried' so he talked to us for awhile then went and bought us a bottle of water from England because he thought we should have something better than soda to drink in the heat. Then he talked to us while we drank it and finished our 'tail. After that he took us in the multi-country exhibition hall that was out for '2000 - we stood in front of a huge industrial fan and cooled off and he showed us how it was decorated for a convention coming in the next week. Told us to look him up if we came back for illuminations and he would find us a good seat. I believe his name was Bill -have it written in my little trip book but not handy right now.

We ended up late for illuminations that night due to de-magnitized tickets so I didn't have time to find him. I would love to go back and thank him again for taking such good care of us.

Well, we were there this past June. We stayed at Coronado Springs. For some reason my room key did not work at the food station at the pool. I did not bring my dd's key with us because we were just swimming. After I ordered my meal, and my card wouldn't work they gave me my food for free. I was happily surprised.

Then we were at Animal Kingdom another day and went to Pizzafari. I ordered a small pizza, bread sticks and a soda. When she said it would be $6 and some change I said that sounded way too little for the 3 things. She said she forgot to charge me for the pizza so I got it free. I was feeling pretty good by then. 2 free things!!

Then, another morning we were going to the Beach Club for breakfast. My dd and I were the only ones on the bus from CS going to MK to hop on another bus to get to the Beach Club. The driver said we were taking the long route and brought us straight to the Beach Club. Man, by then I was just beaming because he went out of his way to get us there.

Disney magic is a wonderful thing.

It may not seem really magical or special to those of you with young children, but when my Mom and Daddy took my sister and I on a trip for her undergraduate graduation and my seminary graduation, Mousekeeping still did cute things with our stuffed animals (yes, we each had one that we slept with, plus our big Mickeys that we bought each other for graduation presents)...putting them all together napping on a bed, having them peeking out of the curtains, all piled up with a card...I've even got pictures of that one! We saw that they did cute things with them in rooms where there were smaller children and figured that it wouldn't happen to us because we were older ~ out of college older. You should have seen the smiles on our faces when we came in from a late night (I'm thinking Fantasmic! when it was on summer schedule) and saw a pile of critters with a note saying "We missed you today and hope you had FUN!"

The first night of our honeymoon DH and I took one of the small launches from the WL to the MK, then from the MK to the GF, just to look and walk around. When we got back on the launch we were the only ones, and we got talking to the pilot. When he found out we were on our honeymoon, and since we were the only passengers, he took us on a personal boat tour of the 7 Seas Lagoon and bay Lake, and even took us into the canal where the Water Pageant Floats are kept- he was a pilot for one of those floats too. It was very sweet and special, and the perfect beginning to our magical honeymoon.

Lots of CM's have made our trips magical but........

We check in after midnight alot, nothing magical about that! One trip the security at the BW gate had confetti they threw into the backseat where the kids were and gave them some very pretty fans! It was sooo nice to start our trip that way!!

I love reading all of your magical moments. We have several. I will try to tell about just three....

My Dad, son (6), and I took a Father-Son weekend last March. We were eating dinner at the Garden Grille, when out of nowhere a chef appears, and offers for my son to be a Jr. Chef for the Day at the Garden Grille. He was so excited to wear his chef coat and hat and help make our "salad".

My wife and daughter were in the restroom in UK in Epcot. My daughter sings the ABC's while washing her hands. A cast member approached them, commented on how cute she was and gave my daughter two pins.

While staying at the CBR, we returned from the park to find meduim sized stuffed Mickey and Dumbo animals. I called the front desk, worried that somehow someones animals had gotten mixed into our room??!???!! They informed me that mousekeeping just thought we were exceptional guests and wanted to thank us. Now, I know what you are thinking, we do tip, but not THAT much We have always taught our kids to be thoughtful to all cast members, and we always make a point to speak to all cast members and thank them for their services. This was such a great piece of magic!

Last July my DH and I celebrated our 10th Wedding Anniversary at the DI. I had made some cute pixie wish cards for the CM's at the resort just to say thanks and such. Anyway when we checked into our room and then went to a Epcot. When we got back there was a huge floral arrangement in a beautiful etched disney vase, ballons and two cards one from Mickey saying Happy Anniversary and one from the CM's at the DI. We were so surprised anyway we thought nothing more magical could possibly happen during this trip...wow we're we wrong...we made friends with the CM's at the gift shop who gave us two of the old DI pins....then on my DH's birthday they surprised him with ballons and birthday cards...the restaurant even gave us complimentary deserts and two glasses of wine...it was truly the most magical vacation ever.

We met a CM at the Pringle's of Scotland shop in Epcot, who gave us two of his own pins from his lanyard, as a "wedding present." This is the only time that someone at WDW has actually given us something of their own, and we were just shocked by his hospitality! We of course wrote a letter to WDW when we got back, telling them about his wonderfully generous action.
As far as other magic, we had a ton of magical moments on our last trip, since it was our wedding & honeymoon trip.
Our wedding coordinator sewed a hook & eye onto my dress, since mine had broken. This really saved me, since the dress was strapless!!!
CM's at the parks gave us fastpasses, and at restaurants, we got free sparkling wine a few times.
One night when we got back to our room at the GF, a small bottle of champagne & a pink rose awaited us.
It was really the most magical trip, completely because of the great CM's who went out of their way to make it perfect.

At one of the coffee stops in Epcot, the young CM was drawing on the backs of the pieces of paper from his packet of his job information. Our daughter saw that he was drawing Powerpuff girls and other cool cartoon figures...he showed her how to draw one & then gave her the packet of papers with all his sketches on it. That made her day & gave her a cool souvenir that she couldn't have bought anywhere

We were down in june and it was my son 10th b-day, the Cm's singing quatet there pass us and then came back and took my son and starting singing happy b-day to him he was so happy.
Then at MGM A cm at the mickey hat store Gave him a pin from her pin strap for his b-day and then another cm at the front of MGM as we were leaving told him to pick a pin from her strap too. He really enjoyed the attention.
Then at planet holywood we ate dinner and the waiter gave him the huge dessert for free for his b-day.So it a truly magical place!
