I've just read this on Mugglenet:

JK Rowling signs letter of intent for HP theme park
After months of negotiations, JK Rowling has, according to a new report, signed a letter of intent to the Walt Disney Company allowing them to carry out preliminary construction on a theme park with Harry Potter characters. Although a letter of intent isn't legally-binding, it is "a serious intent to carry out certain business activities." The company is hoping for a definitive response from Jo on the situation by next summer.

What do you think? Is it a good or bad choice?

I guess if anyone can do it and do it well it has to be Disney, I have my doubts though, simply because of the HP films being pretty much ALL special effects that it would work. I'm sure the imagineers will be in their element trying to figure out how to really reconstruct the whomping willow, the moving staircase and the many other things HP fans take for granted.

Sounds fantastic and if anyone can do it then Disney are the ones. Wonder where it would be?

I've been dreaming up a ride for a Harry Potter theme park or land, got it all worked out now, right down to the building facades and queuing areas! If only I worked for Imagineering :(

I agree, it'll be fantastic, I hope it'll be built in WDW :thumbsup2

Absolutely - so many potentially great rides! Please let it be in WDW!!!

I think it would be amazing but Im not sure if it would be good to have a whole park based on HP. In a few years the HP interest could be fading and then the park might not be as appealing as it would be now.

I agree, wouldn't want a whole park based on HP, but a ride would be great :thumbsup2 I love the HP books and films :wizard:

What a cool idea; I do hope they make sure to say that it's the PHILOSOPHER's stone though...

Wouldn't it be cool if Mickey and Harry faced off in a magic duel?

I've just been reading a denial of the rumours on Leaky Cauldron. We'll just have to wait and see.

wow it will be great if it actually happens

Warner Brothers hold the film (and probably other) rights to Harry Potter. Warner Brothers also have a controlling stake in the Six Flags theme parks across the USA with such exciting rides as Superman and Batman & Robin. If anyone is going to get the rights to a Harry Potter ride, let alone a theme park, I wouldn't bet on Disney wining the contract.

My understanding is that WB didn't get any considerations with regard to theme park attractions in their contract. Rowling can sell the theme park rights to whomever she wishes.

Sounds like a fun idea, if it happens.

Me and Andy have been talking about this for years, I think it's a great idea. However, I do distinctly remember JK Rowling saying a few years ago (when talking about merchandise ideas suggested to her) that there will never be a Harry Potter theme park! Hmm........

Just found more info (can't remember source so please trust me ;) ) that it is actually negotiations for a ride, not a whole park. This sounds more realistic, no idea where they would put it though,
