I really need some advise. We are going to Universal in a couple weeks. I really want to ride the HArry potter but I am afraid I may get sick. I rode the Mission Mars ride at Epcot and was sick and I mean sick. Is this ride naything like that? I have rode Space Moutain no issues What about the Mummy Ride how is that one I know it's a roller coaster.
Can someone give me some details.

thank you so much for answering this

The Mummy is a highly themed ride with mild coaster elements. It's much more than a coaster and a lot of fun. I haven't heard of anyone getting sick on it.

The Forbidden Journey is a moving ride on a kukla arm and some people get sick but many don't. It's nothing like the ride at Epcot because that one spins which bothers a lot of people. It's hard to predict how you'll react to Forbidden Journey. Can you ride simulator type rides?

FWIW, I did Mission Space, the green one, without any problems, other than a mild discomfort regarding the tight space (I'm not claustrophobic, but it was a little too closed-in for my liking). I've also done Star Tours, all the coasters/thrill rides at WDW, and loved them, but I did not enjoy FJ AT ALL. Something about the combination of movement and images really didn't work well for me. I felt sick nearly the entire time. It was terrible. However, my son wasn't bothered at all, and no one else getting off the ride looked any the worse for wear. :confused3 Me, I was in a cold sweat just trying not to hurl for more than half the ride.

I guess the bottom line is you won't know until you try it! I was really excited to go on the ride, totally unconcerned with what others had said - didn't even bother to read what to do if you felt ill since I've never run into a ride where it was an issue. That'll teach me. :rotfl:

Do you get sick on Star Tours? If so, FJ may be an issue. If I were you I would definitely take some kind of motion sickness meds the nights before and the morning of.

Agreed - Star Tours is the best comparison. I love every kind of thrill ride...but HATE motion simulators. I almost got sick on FJ and couldn't wait to get off.

I get sick on teacups, Dumbo, Astro oribiter, any rides that go round and round, but could ride FJ all day. And did. ;)

Thanks everyone for the info. I did not gt sick on Star Tours. Only ha a problem with Mission MArs. i think it was the spinning as one person said.
I am going to ride and take something for motion sickness. I think I'kk do fine. I just get this anxiety attacks and worry more than I should.

Tough to say. My husband does Mission Space (orange as well as green side) with no problem. He loves the biggest, roughest coasters and motion simulators of all kinds. In fact, I have never known him to have a problem with any ride. The Tea Cups, Mission Space, Star Tours, none of the coasters bother him. The morning we went to Islands of Adventure, he laughed when I insisted he take a meclizine. When we got off FJ, he was green and had to sit for awhile. For some reason it doesn't bother me at all and I can ride it repeatedly and in fact used the single rider line in order to do so, while my husband tried to recover.:rotfl: He was off the rest of the day and blamed it on the meclizine I gave him, refusing to believe any ride could do that to him. A few days later we went back over to Universal again and he refused to take the meclizine saying that was what made him ill and not the ride. We did a few other rides first including Simpsons, MIB, Mummy, Spiderman, Hulk, and Dueling Dragons. He then laughed and said he was ready to conquer FJ. Unfortunately FJ conquered him and again he was off for the rest of the day.:rotfl: I took meclizine both days and was fine. In fact, I rode it multiple times in late August/early Sept, mid October, and then again in Dec and never had a problem. My husband on the other hand wants nothing to do with the ride. Again this is a man who loves any amusement park ride ever built and has never been sick on one in his life. He has no idea why FJ does him in, but it does.:confused3 He says for him it starts at the very beginning of the ride while you are going through the chimneys to get to the observatory. The only place that bothers me even a tiny bit is right after that part as soon as you leave the observatory and meet Hagrid at the walkway where he tells you he's lost a dragon and then the ride suddenly swoops downward. It doesn't make me ill, but that little downward swoop just feels a little uncomfortable for a second.

The first time I rode FJ, I had taken non drowsy Dramamine about two hours before we rode. As soon as the ride started and we headed through the chimneys I could feel it. I was fine through the animatronics part but not through the simulator parts.

After that experience, I have learned to take the meds the night before and the morning of. I close my eyes for a large part of the simulator parts or I look down or to the side and I can now ride the ride back to back without any sickness.

I'm not a roller coaster person either. I went on the Mummy ride the first year it was open. I had no idea it was a roller coaster until I was half-way through the queue. I decided to brave it anyway since I'm a big fan of anything Ancient Egyptian. It wasn't bad at all. If you survived Space Mountain, this will be fine. I was so enthralled with the special effects and the details of the ride I didn't even notice the drops (more like twists and turns, like Thunder Railroad). I'd go again.

Is Forbidden Journey like the ride at Disneyland Soarin over California?

No, it is much rougher and twists and turns a lot. It doesn't glide and shift gently like Soarin'. It's on an arm with several seats all next to each other. You see a combination of animatronics and screens. You never feels like you're on this arm but it does manipulate you all around a lot. It's hard to describe!

I rarely get sick on rides but there is one part of FJ that I call a sudden swoop that kind of makes my stomach lurch. I'm OK after that even though a part where you literally lay on your back feels a bit odd.

You just never know what will bother you until you try it though. I thought that I would lose it on Jimmy Neutron and it doesn't seem to bother anyone else.
