I'll be visiting WWoHP in early August and I have a few questions.
  1. How strict are the height restrictions for Forbidden Journey? My daughter is about 1/2 inch shorter than 48".
  2. What time are they opening the gates for people who aren't staying on property?
  3. Which day of the week is likely to be the quietest?
  4. If arriving early in the morning is it better to approach WWoHP via Seussland or via Jurassic Park?
  5. Did anyone spot any Dobby the house elf merchandise?

Welcome to the DIS :welcome:

I can only answer questions 1, 3 and 4.

1. If your DD doesn't measure up to the 'stick', she will not be allowed to ride - end of! They are very strict with the height restrictions for obvious H&S reasons

3. I thas been reported here that Sunday is the best time to go.

4. If you are staying offsite, I believe that you will be 'drected' to WWOHP through Toon Lagoon and Jurassic Park.

Hiya - is she her half inch short with trainers on?? - we measured ours barefoot and forgot about the extra inch from trainers!!

I'm headed down to WWofHP next week, Tuesday to be exact. I've heard some say go first thing in the morning while others say go later in the early evening when lines are shorter and have died down. Do the lines ever die down? Any suggestions.

We were there last week:

We weren't there Sunday but went Monday evening to check things out. (We were staying on property and planned to go early next day.) Monday evening the Forbidden Journey ride only had a 60 minute wait so we went on.
After the ride we were able to walk right into the candy shop.

DD was sick Tues morning so we weren't back over there til Tues night. It was a madhouse. Lines to be allowed into any stores.

Wed afternoon was the first time we saw the line that was usually formed only in the morning just to be allowed to enter the Harry Potter area. It was backed all the way to Thunder Falls restaurant. (Am I remembering the name right?)

I would guess the earlier in the week the better?

When you enter the park in the morning you will be directed to go to the left through Toon Lagoon and Jurassic Park.

As far as merchandise went, Choc Frogs were a hot seller. To tell you the truth, it seemed like stuff was wiped out. There were many facings for the same few items. A lot of the stuff was available at the Universal Stores at the front of both parks. Didn't see any Doby stuff. We never even bothered trying Ollivander's or the Owl Post because that was where the longest wait was. We heard, but cannot verify, that on Monday you could only get Malfoy's wand, the rest were gone.

Thanks, I have never heard of "sneakers" (as known to me) referred to as "trainers", tennis shoes, yes, but trainers, no.

The only reason I know this is because I am currently reading the UK edition of Harry Potter. It is actually kinda fun seeing the different expression they use compared to us.

I can answer a few of your questions:

We were there this Monday morning and staying in Royal Pacific. They let resort guest in at 7:30, but we were there by 7:15. It was great to be the very first in line. We headed there through Dr. Suess land and went to Ollivanders first and I was so glad. The line was extremely long by 8:00 a.m. We bought our wands and the headed for FB journey. We went twice as the line wasn't long from 8:00-9:00. We wished we went to the stores before 9:00 when the general public was let in. From 9:15 through the rest of the day, everything was super packed and all the stores had a line to get in. We also rode Flight of Hippogriff and ate at Three Broomsticks before we left. It was a great experience, we just wish we had one more day to do everything we couldn't get to. You almost need to early entry mornings to do it all before the mass crowds get there! It was amazing!!!!

What are trainers? :confused3 I am thinking some kind of shoe/foot covering

Hiya - doh - I forgot to put in the translation for you lot across the pond.... as others have said, I guess sneakers would be the US equivalent - if sneakers are sports type shoes/running shoes/nike air type things..... "trainers" is short for training shoes.

Just don't get us Brits going on translations the other way - "fanny pack" always gives us a giggle...

I was there last month and didn't see any Dobby merchandise there. We were kinda dissappointed because we love his character.

We're staying on-site, as well, and have a similar game plan for our trip next month. We'd like to be there by 7:30am, and my younger sister is dying to eat at 3 Broomsticks - are they open in the morning, or were you still in the WWoHP area around lunchtime?

Thanks for all the replies. She is about 1/2 inch too short when wearing sneakers/tennis shoes (I call them runners, I'm Irish :))

Do they open the gates for the general public at 9am exactly or have they been letting people in any earlier than that?

Does anyone know whether there is an open or phantom network so you can use a mobile or IPOD device with WiFi capability? There are some nice apps out there to aid in planning your day withen the parks. But without the phone cability unless there is a wifi network withen the resort area the mobile is useless.

They are letting people into the park early but you have to show a room key to get into WWOHP before 9am. They do let you queue up to be the first regular park visitors in so being early does have an advantage in that respect. You will still have pretty long lines in front of you but obviously not as bad as if you waited until 10 or 11 to show up.

To us the Ollivanders wait was a waste of time. Our guests, who are big HP fns thought it was ok but short considering the 45-minute wait. I thought it was total crap.
The castle, on the other hand, is well worth waiting in line for even if you can save time by using the single riders line. The amazing details make it worth your time even if you've never read or seen anything to do with HP.

My DD (7) is just at 48 inches tall, maybe a little under and I was very surprised that not once during our week long trip did they measure her. I was expecting it at both the Mummy, which she could nto wait to ride, and FJ and neither placed batted an eye when we went in. Now, she did have on some thick sandals that she loved but that might have only given her a half inch.

I have an IPhone and it never picked up any networks while we were in the parks, only the ones at the hotel for wifi connections.

Thanks for the tidbit on the IPhone. Would be nice though if there was an open wifi network within the parks so all the apps with the park maps and attraction wait times would actually be useful.

We were also their earlier this week and they were at capacity for the HP area. They would not let people in until others left. At times the line to get in reached back to Rip Saw Falls bridge. Staying in the Universal hotels and using early entry is the best way to go if you can
