Harry Potter or Twilight Series? If You've Read Both, Which One?

Harry Potter by far. Twilight was good but Harry is MUCH better.

Harry Potter.

Twilight was good, but after I read it once I really wasn't interested in reading it again.
With Harry Potter, on the other hand, every time I read it I see something that I missed before.

I've read all of the Harry Potter series (most of them twice!). DD LOVED Twilight when it came out, and really wanted me to read it. I muddled my way through the 1st one. Really hated it. I only finished it because she really wanted me to. Bella is a wimpy, simpering, fainting twit. It's bad when you don't like the main character. I didn't read the others in the series.

Other DD has read all of the Harry Potters as well as all of the Twilights. She loved both series, but preferred HP.

I feel the same is true for me. Or when I watch the movie I say "that wasn't in the book" and sure enough when I read the book again, it was there and I can't imagine how I could have possibly missed it :)

If you had, you probably would have added something along the lines of "mean" to that... she's terrible to Jacob in the rest of the books and I could hardly stand her.

Loved Harry Potter! Tried to get into the Twilight series because DD wanted me to read them. Couldn't finish them. Thought the books were really awful.

I read every Harry Potter and loved them all. I could only read a few pages of Twilight before I wanted to jam it in the paper shredder. What a waste of trees.

Harry Potter. No Question.

The series is much better written, and as other posters have mentioned, there's always something new you'll pick up each time you read them. It's also fascinating to realize how well planned the whole thing was. for instance, there was a cursed necklace that came into contact with one of the Hogwarts students in Book/Film 6. That very necklace is mentioned in the second book of the series. In Book 6, there's a very small throwaway mention of a silly little tiara amongst a pile of rubbish. In Book 7, you find that "silly little tiara" is a VERY important piece to the entire Voldemort puzzle.

It's just a fascinating story that grows with its audience as they progress through the stories.

Burn Twilight, Read Potter.

I am going to start "reading" the Twilight series tonight. Want to see what the hype is about.

They are not comparable at all. It's like asking whether RC Cola or Champagne tastes better. Two completely different drinks, though one clearly is in a class by itself.

Harry Potter is the superior series from every angle...story, writing, theme, characters. Champagne.

Twilight...err, RC Cola, has it's fans, and it's place.

Don't even bother with Twilight, it's dreadful.

Just go for Harry Potter. The writing is a million times better. I'm reading them again now (still trying to get Twilight out of my system) and it's just as good as when I read them the first time.

To me Harry Potter is bordering on genius.

Twilight is a guilty pleasure, a love story, fluff entertainment. Loved it, but it isn't in the same category as the Potter series.

You know, I've read both series and they're very different types of books. I enjoyed both too.

Hmmm, Harry Potter is much more detailed and you have to pay attention while reading or else something important will be missed. Character development is much more satisfying and Harry's story is very emotional and moving. I'm planning to re-read the series again because there's sooo much information in them and it's like finding a surprise when you peruse them again! I definitely feel like these books had a more superior plot without any holes. Very well written.

Twilight is more of a romantic type of book...girl meets boy (oops, I mean vampire) who is completely drawn to her as well (for different reasons;) like wanting to suck her blood) and they fall in love. It was predictable in some parts but fiercely romantic in others. Hey, who doesn't want a man who'd die for the woman he loves!:lovestruc For me, these were a highly enjoyable but fluffy series of books. Is it great literature, no but it was fun to read.

Honestly, I blew through the Twilight series of all 4 books in 2 weekends. Harry Potter took me weeks to finish, granted there are 7 books but still. So, all of that to say I don't know! Wasn't I helpful?

I've read both (The Twilight series 3 times and HP at least 7) and Harry Potter is by far the best of the 2. I'm actually watching The Half Blood Prince movie right now and it's soo ticking me off. I generally like the movies but as a huge fan of the books all I can do when I watch THIS movie is mourn all that's been left out. Had I never read the books, I probably would have loved it. :confused3

Anyway, HP is totally amazing. I, too, find something I either didn't remember or connected before that seemed insignificant at 1st but later turns out to be hugely important. I think the books are awesome for readers of all ages, too which only adds to its appeal.

Wow. I managed to get thru the HP books but honestly much preferred the movies. The books are sooooo long and require intense concentration because of the details and storylines. I did think the books got easier to follow with each one, probably because you began to really know the characters.

I really did not expect to like the Twilight series at all. I've never been awed by vampire stories/movies, etc. and don't typically think of vampires as sexy, but decided to give it a try. I loved, loved, loved them. I read each book in less than two days. I was soooo happy I waited to read them when they were completed as the wait between each publication would've killed me.

They are very different styles and themes, obviously. If you want a sweet romance (not much in the line of steamy scenes), then Twilight will fill the bill. If you're looking for adventure, then HP is the better choice.

They are two very different type of books. Twilight is written for teens and is very much a love story. Although I am not very fond of Bella's "need" for Edward, I do think that many teen girls can relate to her and the way she feels and thinks and to how she feels about Edward (and her attraction to him).

Harry Potter is not a love story at all (well, just a bit of love story written in to the last couple), its more of fantasy/adventure.

HP is the better series by far, imho.
