Interestingly, Rickman was NOT the first choice to play Snape. That would be Tim Roth, who is now on the TV show "Lie to Me", but he was tied up with the Planet of the Apes remake, and was not available to be cast for the first movie.

And we can all be thankful!! Kinda like Tom Selleck not being able to do Raiders of the Lost Ark!

Tom Selleck did not do Raiders of the Lost Ark. He did Magnum, P.I. Harrison Ford did Raiders of the Lost Ark. But, we get the idea.

I think the PP was referring to the fact that Tom Selleck was the first pick for the Indiana Jones character. Just like we now can not see how anyone but Harrison Ford could have pulled it off, it is hard to see Tim Roth as Snape, instead of Rickman.

Yes, thank you, that was exactly what I meant! I am a die hard Harrison Ford fan, no way I would mistake Tom Selleck for him as Indiana Jones .

I did not know that Tom Selleck was the first choice for that roll. Harrison Ford was excellent.

yes - apparently he had done the pilot for Magnum and the production for the first year ran at the same time as the production for the movie and the tv people said no he couldn't have time off to do the movie and would have to choose.

his agent suggested the tv show because it would be more stable.

I don't think that any other actor could pull off the Snape role as good as Rickman's done.

ITA Alan Rickman is the best. I also loved Alan Rickman in Sense & Sensibility as Colonel Brandon.

Well, DD9 and I saw Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince yet again. I had a thought regarding the burning of the Weasey's home. In the next film there have been photos of them filming along the seashore, right? I'll bet they are going to make Bill and Fleur's cottage (from Deathly Hallows) into the Weasly's new home since Bill and Fleur aren't even addressed. Just my thoughts.

Warwick Davis.

Yup- he played Griphook in the first Harry Potter movie, too. He was the goblin at Gringott's Bank who took Harry and Hagrid to their vaults.

I read spoilers that say Fleur and Bill ARE in the 7th/8th movies. The same actress who played Fleur in Goblet of Fire will reprise her role, and Domhnall Gleeson (the real-life son of Brendan Gleeson, who plays Mad-Eye Moody) will play Bill.

The part of Xenophilius Lovegood (Luna's dad) will be played by Rhys Ifans (best known as Hugh Grant's weird roommate in Notting Hill). And Rufus Scrimgeur will be played by Bill Nighy (Davy Jones from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies).

We went and watched the movie again this past weekend (took Dbf's Mom to see it) and we both agreed that we liked it much better the second time around. The first time I was rather disappointed and although there are still things that bother me, it was much better this time. I wonder if it was because I read the books right before seeing the new movie? Oh well...can't wait for the next two!
