We are a family of 4 and added Universal on to our Disney trip purely for my 11 year old son- He is a huge HP fan and we plan on spending our time exploring anything HP and then enjoying the rest of the parks
My question if HP is our focus- where do we start? which park? We have 3 day Park to Park and don't plan on doing full full days- and being the ultimate Disney planner I feel lost with this part of our trip and all are okay with that but I would feel better if I at least knew which park we should start in

We planned 3 days because we will be there 1/1-1/5 so will be in park Sat Sun & Mon and figure the crowds might still be high on the weekend

Any help would be appreciated

We've been going since the first HP section opened, but now that we've got our choice, we always seem to start at US, visit Diagon Alley, and then ride the train to the other section. Even tho the new ride isn't in the exact timeline, my kids like it this way, so they visit the areas in the order that Harry might have lol. And by starting there early in the am, lines aren't that long for either attraction.

Agree starting in Diagon alley good plan.

If you can spend sometime in the evening in both harry potter areas do, they are wonderful in the dark.

My DD loves the interactive wand and doing all the spells. Take your time taking in all the details. Eat in one of the restaurants leaky cauldron or 3 broomsticks (no resrvation needed). Ride the train both ways.

Non hp I'd recommend the minions ride.

We just got back last week and felt the same way, totally clueless when we walked in. We started over at the IOA side and went over to DA later in the day. Then kept going back and forth riding the train. I found the US/DA side of the park to be much warmer mid day since there is not much shade in that park. So I agree with the above post the start in DA and the over to Hogwarts side. I felt that there was more to do in DA as far as the wands thing goes and the area seemed to be bigger, we almost missed the nocturne alley. The puppet shows in that area were also very cool. The one thing that did drive me nuts about both HP areas was that the walkways suddenly shrunk, I get that it's supposed to be realistic but it definitely bottle necks walking into those areas. Are you staying at an Universal Resort ? We found that the parks a much smaller that Disney parks and easily walked back and forth from Hard Rock to both parks and even when the train was quite a wait we just walked to the other park.
