Harry Potter and the Mini Bar Mystery

I was already planning to refuse the mini bar key. How ANNOYING that there is stuff on the COUNTER! I will have to threaten DH and DS with bodily injury if they touch it!

The hallway noise isn't an issue at night because not many people are out THAT late. I do agree that its incredibly loud whenever someone is in the hall. You can really hear it.

They called back and did not give me any hassle at all. The only thing they asked was did we maybe use the water...didn't even see any water although I did see the goodies. I explained we didn't even stay in the room and they said no problem, credit will show up in 3-5 days.

I'm glad we didn't actually spend the night there. In the short time we were in the room I was shocked at the amount of hallway noise. I can't stand that and wouldn't have gotten any sleep. I'm surprised the rooms are not better insulated. I've never had that problem at the WDW hotels, other than (surprisingly) the Grand Floridian. Our room was right in a large atrium in one of the wings and the sound echoed up day and night. It was fun taking the IOA hotel boat for the first time ever, tho' (we left our car in the garage when we checked out the room as there was no way I was popping $15 to park at the hotel).
If you've never been there add the Polynesian Resort to that list. I LOVE this hotel but the hallway noise was awful and I could easily hear things next door. We were also placed next to a stairwell once and our wall vibrated from people clomping up and down.

Did you hear any dogs? I worry about that. We didn't hear anything when we stayed at RPR but it might depend on where you are.

No dogs, but we were only in the room about an hour total. DH went to use the pool while I stayed in the room and played on the internet via my phone. Then he came back, took a shower and we left.

That's a bummer about the Poly. We eat at 'Ohana regularly but have never stayed there. I couldn't believe the Floridian was even worse than the moderates, but since the mods have outside doors the noise doesn't echo down a hallway. We had no problems at Wilderness Lodge or the Contemporary either.

Do you book your Disney dinners months in advance or do you just go online a few days before and see what happens to be available?

Mostly in advance these days for things like Ohana and Le Cellier. I HATE free dining! We can usually still get into Jiko or Artist Point on the same day but that's about it. Oh, and Garden Grill, but they will always lie and say it is full and then you show up as a walk up and the place is nearly empty.

Thank you for the informative post. We are going on vacation in August and will be staying on the park. I will ask for proof of receipt for not taking the mini bar key.

Do you make ADRs just in case you are going to want them by the time it rolls around or do you actually make a reservation four months in advance knowing that's exactly what you're going to be doing that night?

We pick a timeframe for the popular restaurants, then call WDW and ask when they have a ressie closest to that time frame. Sometimes we're denied but we usually luck out if we're flexible enough. We occasionally catch Ohana has a walk up right at opening time too.

I was going to take the key to the mini bar and put a small milk in there for breakfast during our stay. Now I don't even want to take the key and deal with them thinking I took something out of it.

Can you leave your car in the parking garage overnight? I have season passes and would like to not pay the $15 a night as well.

Nope, I was only able to do it because we did not actually spend the night. We were able to leave and sleep at home since we're local.
