Harbor Club Child Care Closing

Deb Wills has info that , as of March 16, the Harbor Club child care center at the Boardwalk will close until further notice. THe Sandcastle Club at Y&B will be open.

I saw this and thought it was odd, because isn't this the childcare center the kids go to when you do your DCV tour and purchase? I know the DVC one was great -- my kids didn't want to leave! What will they do now?

I don't think this is the same place as the DVC place.

I think this will overwhelm The Sandcastle Club.

Do they accept advance ressies like a restaurant would? For some reason I think they only take ressies 7 days in advance.

This saddens me. I don't like seeing services being closed. Do you think it is due to lack of use?
Or perhaps staff reduction?

I'm very sorry to hear this. We used it on our trip in 2001. It was always closed Monday and Tuesday but to have it closed all the time... Doesn't that make BW the only deluxe hotel without a childcare club? (Not counting OKW since it is Home Away From Home.) Not a good thing.

No fair - my youngest recently turned 4 and we were looking forward to using the Harbor Club. I hope they replace it with some sort of program at Community Hall (he'd *love* that), although since there isn't anywhere to sleep I don't know how they'd handle late night sleepyheads. I wonder if there'll be an official explanation from DVC/Disney or if they're hoping no one cares enough to even ask.

Maybe it isn't the result of DVC members at all. I get the impression from the Resorts Board that the Boardwalk Inn is not the most family friendly nor popular with families visiting WDW. Perhaps that fact - fewer families at BW - translates to very few children in the kids club.

I don't necessarily agree that Sandcastle will fill up. It may if parents visiting the Boardwalk itself decide to dump their kids off there.

We visited it on one trip in 2001 and there were no kids there. Just the two nice older ladies who staffed the place.
