Happy St Brigid's Day to those who celebrate!

I’m not aware of this, but I remember in Catholic school one nun wrote the Saint of the Day’s name on the blackboard. We may have said a short prayer to that saint too.

I think some religious calendars also had this information.

It used to not be a big deal here in Ireland, it was known about but there was nothing really to mark it. However in the last few years, the Irish Government created a new Bank Holiday, which is similar to your Federal Holidays. The first Monday in February is for St Brigids Day, so next Monday is Bank Holiday in Ireland. Schools will be closed, and most employees are entitled to paid time off on that day. Essential services, retail, hospitality etc who do work on that day will get an extra day added to their paid time off days.
