Happy Labor Day 2025! Who’s working today…

Yet another holiday that I don't get. Being retired means you never have a day off. :jester:

LOL. EVERY holiday was a normal work day, not a day off in my industry, including Labor Day. We retired 4 years ago, so Labor Day 2021 was the first Labor Day my wife and I did not work in 42 years. First TV station I worked at carried the Jerry Lewis Labor Day MDA Telethon, so NOBODY got today off, and it was usually a weekend of LOTS of overtime. If you worked Labor Day, it was at least a double time day. If you had overtime, that was a triple time situation. At least you didn't have to pack a lunch if you worked the Telethon because there was a steady stream of food donated by area restaurants arriving.
Actually, in retirement, I find holidays a hassled because some of the businesses I need are closed and I have to work around that. Disrupts my routine. Like today, I am fighting with my mail order pharmacy over a prescription that they won't fill until they talk to the Doctor. Of course, the fact that they got the prescription a week ago, and didn't notify me of an issue until SATURDAY doesn't help.

Wow…that MDA telethon must have been a pain. I do know that when WGN-TV used to air the telethon that sometimes they end up having a break of about 2-3 hours to air some local baseball coverage.

Nah, it was fun. And profitable. We went straight through. Well, MDA had the coverage on a "wheel" where we would go to the National Telethon, come back local at the same times every hour. We broadcast from a local shopping mall. There was always something going on around the clock. The local radio stations would do some fundraising stunt, like a couple of DJs teeter tottering for the duration of the telethon. Another DJ LIVED on a billboard for the three days. Even climbed back up after falling and fracturing both ankles!! The high school marching band passing thru the mall. And a celebrity would always "stop by". Flown in by MDA, I remember Debbie Reynolds one year.

All 3 of our family workers have today off.
And the 2 kids in school (they also had Friday off).
And then the 2 retirees that are hosting the family lunch in a few minutes
