Happy Birthday, Marine Corps!!!

My daddy, Captain LD Blevins, USMC, retired after proudly serving 25 years. We never celebrated his birthday, only the Marine Corps birthday.

Daddy passed away in 1997 and my family still celebrates "his" birthday today.

Your bravery in going back for that fallen radioman was magnificent. You truely deserve the honors they gave you, both of the purple hearts and the bronze star. Happy Birthday, George.

Thank you...he was a very special young man. Had just turned 19 the month before. He had wanted to be a Marine since he was a little boy. We were all so proud of him when he finished boot camp at Parris Island. Hard to believe that he graduated high school in May and was gone by November. Even 5 years later, it still hurts. He died on the anniversary of the founding of the Marine Corp and the day before Veteran's Day, 2010.
