There were a few years of a constitutional monarchy but it was too little, too late.
I have to say that unfortunately I agree with
@georgina. Too much like the Russian Revolution with too many injustices, misunderstandings and social upheaval. Then of course there were the radical politicians on both sides of the spectrum (sounds familiar doesn't it?). Ironic that both Robespierre and Marat died violently.
As an aside, many Americans don’t realize the effect our Revolution had on French politics. Of course, all were influenced by Voltaire.
