Our bus was so late school had already started. Pretty typical for these first few weeks. Just have to expect chaos while everything works itself out.\
This summer seemed way too short, and my oldest is off to her second year of University and my youngest is in 7th grade!!
Time needs to slow down!!

This is the first September since 2000 that I don't have my "little one" heading back to class. Enjoy these school years everyone, time may often seem long but the years pass by in a flash.

My baby started grade 2 today! He is in a split 2/3 class. Not sure I'm happy about that, but happier that he's not in the split 1/2 class. I guess we'll see how it goes. He was sad his BFFs are not in his class but I reminded him he'll see them at all recesses, and he doesn't get to play during class time any way!

My younger one is happy because her teacher taught her JK (she switched to 1/2 last year). And I'm happy because I know she's a very good teacher.

My baby started grade 2 today! He is in a split 2/3 class. Not sure I'm happy about that, but happier that he's not in the split 1/2 class. I guess we'll see how it goes. He was sad his BFFs are not in his class but I reminded him he'll see them at all recesses, and he doesn't get to play during class time any way!

My son was in split classes from grade 1 through 5. The first year he was the lower grade ( grade 1 in a 1/2 split) but the rest of the years he was the higher one (grade 5 in a 4/5 split last year).

I was really hesitant to have him in split grades but they have not seemed to have negatively impacted his schooling at all. This year he is in middle school and will likely be in a single grade class, the first for him since kindergarten!

Mine go.back tomorrow. My youngest starts high school and has to be bussed now. We live beside the elementary so this is the first year I won't have anybody coming home for lunch my oldest is going into grade 11. Time flies much too fast.

Only "child" in our family still in the education system is one D-I-L who has her first day of classes in her LAST semester of her Masters programme on Thursday. I have NO idea where the time went.

Hope first day was great for all our kids & teachers too!

Woohoo!! My girls started grade 1 and grade 3 today! However they only went for 45 minutes Tomorrow is the first full day!

My daughter was in a K/1 french immersion split last year for grade 1. All year she complained of being bored. Why would you put a class of grade 1 kids with a full year of all day french instruction with kids that are just going to school for the first time? At the meeting for placement this year we were adamant that she be in a straight grade 2 class or a 2/3 split. The principal said the split classes are great as the older grade help teach the younger grade. It's not great if the older grade is bored and is not learning the new grade appropriate material. It's not my child's job to teach the younger classmates at the expense of her own learning. Older grades where the kids may be on a closer level but not K/1, especially with a second language involved. This year is off to a much better start with no complaints of being bored.
