Happy 60th Birthday (June 23, 1963), Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room!!!!

I hope they never change it. As dated and, some might argue, silly as it might seem, I still love it! It's a piece of my childhood and a glimpse of another era. It's also a wonderful place to sit and cool off. I have a little Jose figurine on my dresser.

Happy Birthday Tiki Room! And I agree, never change it! I'll chain myself to the entrance if they try 😁

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but c'mon it's fun to be silly! First time I had DH go (he never went to DL before we were dating), he obviously didn't share the same level of amusement as me. It was sort of like:pedro-pascal-nicolas-cage.gif

I love the Tiki Room. It is amazing. I agree about not changing it. I would be okay if they had to rerecord the voices for some technological reason, but they should keep the same script and the same songs/music.

Count me in for some Tiki Room love. I get that Disneyland will always be changing, but there are some things that I need to remain the same from my childhood so I can transport back to the 70s and 80s. 😊

My sister made this cute dress for my daughter when she was 2 (now 7) from fabric that was supposedly used for Tiki Room CMs back in the day. You can't see the word "Disneyland" in these pictures but you can see "United Airlines" and "Enchanted Tiki Room."

The Enchanted Tiki Room is one of my favorite attractions in DL and MK. The music is very catchy. I like the voice actors, especially Wally Boag and Thurl Ravenscroft. I am glad MK brought the original show back.

Once, several years back, my daughter and I got to stay the night with the Boags in Santa Monica. Wally was elderly and suffered from dementia, but when he learned he had fans there who loved him, he broke out in all kinds of Disney voices, including Jose the parrot, and temporarily he was able to converse and tell great stories. I'll never forget it. He had an office upstairs that had tons and tons of memorabilia from his Disneyland days--his guns and chaps from the Pecos Bill character in Golden Horseshoe, traveling salesman bag (with rubber chicken), all kinds of artifacts--things he'd gotten from Walt, things from the parks, and a bunch of neat awards from his long run in the Golden Horseshoe and creative contributions to DLR. He played a large role in the Tiki Room's development, script, and as Jose, of course.

Beautiful story. I discovered Wally Boag when I got my hands on Disneyland 50th DVD. Fortunately, the show is on YouTube
. I also had a Disneyland 50th music album with the original Golden Horseshoe from the 1950s. Wally was hilarious as a traveling salesman and Pecos Bill. If you watch the special features from the Pirates of the Caribbean Curse of Black Pearl movie, there is a funny video of the Pirates opening in the 1960s where Wally is the lead pirate.
