Hanging up my running shoes-Update on ZellyB

Congrats on a solid 14, and super cool that you may have another convert to the Marathon club!!! Are you doing an longer taper? Or leaving earlier for Tink? (Or is Tink sooner than I think? LOL)

HA! So, I just realized my schedule was screwed up because originally we were going to run another half before Tink and I had my last long run set up for that, so yeah, I usually don't taper this long. So, I'll probably sneak in another 10 miler in there or something. Or not. :D

Open pool?!?! Ours is still closed... The pergola looks great!

Great job on the 14 miler and happy taper!

We won't be swimming anytime too soon, but we wanted to go ahead and get it started. We are well past any freezing concerns, but I won't be climbing into that water for a little while I can assure you. We do have a heater on the pool, but we can't get it to light for some reason, so Chris is going to try and fix it. :scared1:

Your backyard looks amazing and so relaxing... I'll be over in a jiffy ;)

Great week of running (and eating too!)... How do you only eat 1,000 cal the day before 14 miles and 1500 cal the day of?? You are amazing.

My backyard is my favorite place to be in the summer!!

Really, it's this low carb thing that helps. Since I end up eating things with more fat content, that tends to fill me up more than carbs do and keeps hunger at bay. I'm definitely starting to get sick of eating this way though and am fixated on the Tink trip so I can give myself an excuse to eat carbs again. ;) It doesn't help that the weight loss is definitely stalled at the moment, so just have to keep willing myself to keep it up for a few more weeks!

My BFF says the same thing. She'll occasionally do low carb to lose some weight and says it's only REALLY doable for her if she is good about eating healthy fats. I remember my mom trying to do low-carb years ago and she wouldn't even make it 1 day because she'd feel so awful, so I'm wondering if people just didn't know as much about how important getting healthy fats in is? :scratchin Nutrition is interesting. And weird. And frustrating.

Love your backyard photos and so jealous of the little slice of beautiful pool! We belong to a pool in the summer and mateojr still does swim team, so I'm there every day for his practice, then tri training while he swims for fun. But to have that in the backyard - wonderful! Oldest is looking at Missouri State for musical theatre. But it's all by audition, so we'll see where the chips fall! Thank you so much for the advice! Kansas City it is! Better prices on flights to KC, so that's good news!

I completely agree with the fat content thing. I cut out fat to the extreme in law school - I was running 5 miles every morning, eating almost no fat (like less than 5 grams/day) and studying constantly. I really don't remember the point of this "diet" because I really wasn't trying to lose weight - more like trying not to gain any while sitting for extended periods of time. Point is, I eventually started eating in a more balanced and sane way and felt much better!

Missouri State is my alma mater! Although years ago when I went there, it was called Southwest Missouri State (SMSU). I'm biased, obviously, but I think it's a great university and Springfield and surrounding area are great places to live and visit - especially if you like the outdoors - camping, hiking, fishing, boating, we've got it all. I don't know a lot about their musical theatre program, but I do know they put on a fantastic tent theatre every year in the summer. Hope all goes well.

And, speaking of the diet, I ended up taking my daughter out for lunch after a doctor's appointment today and she wanted sushi, so I agreed to take her and got some. I feel really yucky. After weeks of very few carbs, that rice has hit my stomach like a ton of bricks. Blech.

:tinker:TINKERBELL CORRALS!!! :tinker:
I've already gushed about this on the Tinkerbell thread, but wanted to commemorate it on my own thread. :D

The waivers and corrals were released yesterday and I'm so pumped to see that, as I hoped, we got into corral B!!

That's the best placement I've ever gotten in a Disney race, so I'm pretty excited about that fact. It's only three weeks away now and I cannot wait to be headed to SoCal for an amazing trip and race experience.

I poured over the event guide and the course maps last night. I was also set to look at the expo map, but at least as of last night, that wasn't available yet. I might be a wee bit over excited at the moment. :rolleyes1

Sooo excited for you!!! Corral B is definitely one of the Best!!! I am also busting with Race Day excitement...I don't think I am going to be able to contain myself until January...so vicarious living through (hopefully) upcoming trip reports it will have to be.

I think I read there were still Pixie Dust Challenge bibs available. Just sayin' ;)

Ahh!! I want to go SO bad, but we have obligations that weekend. Boo. I've actually never been to DL... I never really wanted to go, thinking WDW was so much better, but now I think I've changed my mind.

I really don't think one is better than the other...they are just different. :lovestruc

I've made a vow to myself not to compare (or at least as much as I can make myself) and just enjoy this experience for being new and exciting. I'm sure there are WDW things I'll miss, but equally sure I'll find new things at DLR to love. Mostly I'm excited because it's just all so new to me.

So happy for you!!!! You are going to LOVE Corral B at DL. I so wish I could run Tink this year. We've done the DL half weekend and the Super Heroes weekend, but not Tink (yet!) :( So fun to follow along with all of you!

P.S. Yay for Missouri State! We'll get through this audition season with travel advice from internet running friends! I'll be bothering @Ariel484 again shortly for more Cleveland advice - back this summer to pick up son from theatre program and thinking of staying downtown.

Right now I'm planning to do a trip report. Should be fun to do a report since I'll be going into this race experience with fresh eyes!

The more I read about it, the more I'm starting to appreciate what sounds like the charm of DL versus the extravagance of WDW.

@ZellyB I tried not to compare and failed. Both have their pros and cons, and I LOVE both. :)

I'm sure I'll love both as well. It's Disney after all!

Training Week 4/16 – 4/22&23

Sometimes it’s good to just take a rest, right?

giphy.gif

After our 14-miler last week, Chris felt like his glute was a bit strained. We also each had some early morning meetings and so we just decided to give ourselves a break from the workout schedule. So, expect this update to be light on the training. :D

But heavy on the gifs!!

giphy.gif

Sunday 4/16 – No real exercise, but we did work on the pool area and some other things around the house. That should count right?
Calories – Oops. My diary says only 594 calories, so clearly I forgot to log some stuff.

Monday 4/17 – No training.

Weight gain/loss -0.0 lbs. for the week. -9.8 lbs total. Just held steady this week. Blah, but that’s just how it goes, right? Just gotta hang with it. Even though I'm getting really sick of the food I'm eating and yet at the same time not really hungry for anything else in particular. Strange. Although some pancakes really wouldn't kill me.

Tuesday 4/18 – 3 mile run. We were both a bit stiff and sore from the 14 miler, so decided to stick with a 3 mile run today to loosen up. Same intervals and overall pace of 10:55. Felt pretty good by the end of it.

Planned to do 8 miles but decided to punt that to Sunday.
Calories – 1172
Carbs – 35

Sunday 4/23 – Since we ended up doing the long run on Sunday, and this update is short on actual, you know, training, I’ll include it in this week.

training-herc.gif

8 mile run and we decided to go ahead and do this longer one using our 1:45/:30 intervals. We’ve been doing that on our shorter maintenance runs, but sticking to :90/:30 for the long runs. It went pretty well. I was definitely fatigued at the end and slowed down some, but it was pretty good. Overall pace was 11:08. The weather had gotten chilly a bit again after that storm system moved through, so Chris and I both bundled up more than necessary, so it got pretty warm once the sun came up. But, that’s not all bad sometimes to let yourself get a bit warm during a training run. I was pretty pleased with this one though. Next week we are planning to go to 2:00/:30 on the weekday maintenance runs, so we’ll see how that goes as my quest to get my pace down continues.

So, yeah. A VERY easy week. But, I’m not upset about it at all. We both got up this morning feeling ready to start fresh after a restful week. We did get the pool looking good this weekend though. Of course, just in time for it to cool off again and the heater still not working. So, yeah, no swimming, but it sure looks pretty!! My pool boy is hard at work!!

Okay - Baby Dory AND Leslie Knope AND Chandler Bing?? Your GIF game is on point this week!!

Hey, holding steady on the weight ain't all that bad. Better than a gain, right?

Lighter training weeks are GLORIOUS. You guys have been working hard and deserve it!! :tinker:

Your pool and backyard look so calm and serene!! I am jealous!

Thank god for gifs or my posts would be really boring! Yeah, I'm fine with holding steady. It's inevitable and I do know if I keep doing what I'm doing eventually I'll move again.

You're doing great! Just think you're almost there!

Thanks!! Nearly there!! Then I get to start all over and train for my fall marathon. LOL
