Handicapped Rooms at Caribbean Beach

We just booked a trip for October at Handicapped Rooms at Caribbean Beach. My parent’s room was booked as a handicapped room, and we booked a regular room. My questions are …

1. Do the handicapped rooms usually come with a king bed or 2 doubles? At other resorts they have always had a king.

2. Are the handicapped rooms in a few certain buildings, the reservation lady said they were all spread out but being in a wheel chair that defeats the purpose. She needs to be close to the center and the busses.

3. We are coming in 5 days later, they said they linked the reservations but what is the chance we will be close?

4. What else should we know about CBR we have never been to this resort?

Thanks

You might want to check out the disABILITIES part of this board. It has an enormous amount of valuable information. :)

Besides that; what type of accessible room did you book your parents? There are two types;

- rooms with grab bars, raised toilet seat, tub etc.
- rooms with a the above, however no tub but a roll in shower.

The first room; same lay out as any other CBR room. The second type; there are only king bed rooms in that lay out at CBR.

If you want to make sure you are close to OPR, you'll have to book them a preferred room. Those are located at Trinidad North and buildings 24,25 and 26 at Martinique. It costs a bit more, but those are all close to very close to OPR. If booking a normal room, your parents could get a room allover the resort on the first floor. I've found a larger amount of HA rooms being in preferred building (actually had those twice, eventhough booking regular room), but we've read postings on here about people being in other buildings than those that are considered preferred.

No way of telling what your shot will be of getting rooms close to another, especially with you getting in days later. What you could do, is have your parents explain this at check in and ask if they could try and help you guys out on that department. However, it isn't a guarantee.

Check out the CBR thread for ALL possible information about CBR. It's on this same resort board. From a HA point of view; the bridge crossing the lake can be difficult to navigate in a wheelchair when somebody doesn't have the strength to tackle the upward and downward moving.

At OPR, they've got a floor that some find annoying. It isn't 100% smooth, but more of a type of cracked tiles at different sizes, shapes etc.

Almost all of the doors in and out of OPR have got automatic dooropeners you can push. Some are hidden somewhat, so keep an eye out for those. If you get the chance that is, most of the times I've had somebody open the door for me even before I could reach for it.

You'ld better like stealdrum music by the way! :)

I would take a look at the CBR FAQ thread. Link is in my signature. Most of the handicapped rooms are kings. Yes they are scattered throughout the resort. If you want to be close to the food court, main pool you should change your reservation to a preferred room. That category costs extra nightly. Each village has its own bus stop. Yes they will link the reservations but there is no guarantee that they will be honored. Disney does try hard though. You will have a great time at CBR.
