Both seem very reasonable price-wise for a full kitchen and free breakfast....am I missing something?

No? Garden Grove area hotels are cheaper than those within walking distance of the parks because a lot of people don't know about or don't want to take the ART shuttle. Only suites at the Hampton Inn have kitchens, not the basic rooms.

I've stayed at the Hampton Inn before and find it a little newer feeling than a lot of the similarly priced hotels closer to the parks.

You may already know but for others-

Homewood Suites Convention Center/Anaheim is closer to park and newer, although starting to show age with amount of families using rooms vs. Homewood Suites Garden Grove which may be cheaper but further away from parks.

Pointing it out since both properties may come up if doing a general search for Homewood Suites around Disneyland.

It's also good to use maps.google.com and enter each actual hotel address (not just name) to compare.
