I was looking at the new calendar for the 2016/2017 school year. Am I really reading it correctly where it says that school starts the Wednesday after labour day?

I have no tripped planned for the summer and my DH wants to go somewhere so I thought I would look at the school calendar to see if we could plan for Thanksgiving weekend or maybe March break again. If school does indeed start on the Wednesday this year it's making me thing about going to FL for 10 days or so returning on that Tuesday. We have gone many times then and flights home on labour day weekend are pricey but the Tuesday is MUCH cheaper. :scratchin

That would be awesome wouldn't it? Ours isn't out yet in Niagara so I'm just going by the Ministry template. According to that we go back on the Tuesday after labour day as we always have.
And now that I've looked, I'm annoyed that our board calendar STILL isn't out. I heard some teachers I know talking about the changes to the Ministry calendar (specifically when Christmas break will be.) This was in March and they had their copy. Not sure why parents are still waiting to see it.

ETA) Just checked and the Catholic Board has theirs up. Christmas break was changed from the Ministry template and we go to end of day on December 23rd.

* Just occurred to me you will also qualify for free dining if you go that time, if that's of interest to you.

Yes, Christmas break starts after Friday the 23rd. That's happened many times before. In our house we prefer to have the days off after Christmas.

I'm thinking of just renting a timeshare and spending most of the time at the pool. Toss in nice dinners out and I'm happy. Although, you know I love staying onsite. Haven't done FD in a few years.

Interesting. We have a PD day on June 30th (Waterloo Region), so our year ends one day before yours, but starts one day earlier. I'm not sure which I like better.

Sounds fabulous. And you know you would have great pool weather!

This is exactly what I just did. I booked Orange Lake Dec 23rd to Jan 2nd, and still have almost a week off after getting home.
If I knew now that Christmas was possible I'd book that but both DH and I have work conflicts at that time of year. I can see that at some point in the next few years I might just close my business for the week between Christmas and New Year and make that our winter holiday. We have talked about it a few times and I'm willing to deal with the higher cost of traveling then.

I just looked at Skyauction and there are some buy now's for only $325/week. Very, very tempting. Not resorts that I know but I'd be willing to try it for that price.

We're HCDSB, which usually tries to map to the HDSB and yep, Wed, Sept 7 start. Tues is a PD day or something. They did this one other year, so the teachers had that extra prep day. But if you're unsure, call your school or school board.

You can always ask about them or do a search on the Orlando Hotels and Attractions board. Between that and Trip Advisor you should get a pretty good idea if they are somewhere you'd want to stay. I've only stayed at Bonnet Creek and Sheraton Vistana (after being onsite for many many trips). I was nervous about both and ended up loving both!

Haven't stayed at the Vistana but I wouldn't hesitate. WBC was the same, didn't hesitate. Both are large, VERY popular resorts. I would really love to stay at WBC again but it's gotten expensive.

I'm looking at places like Fantasy World, Star Island or Polynesian Isles. Problem is that I'm spoiled with being able to stay multiple times as the nice places like WBC or the Marriott Grande Vista. If we're doing this trip I have to find low cost accommodation but at the same time it has to be nice and resort like because the plan would be to lounge at the pool most of the time.
