I haven't been about much the last couple of days as we had a slight accident in the house.

Tuesday Afternoon my daughter comes home from school she always goes straight upstairs to watch her DVD's, Well 15 minutes later my DS goes upstairs to join her, all of a sudden I hear screaming. At first I thought they were arguing over the DVD's, but then my DS who is 6 came running downstairs shouting fire theres a fire mummy. Well I ran up the stairs and he was right I could smell burning really bad but I couldn't see any smoke :confused3 . He then said the lamp mummy, I turned around and my daughter had turned on the lamp moved it so the bulbs where touching the door. I told them to get down stairs and close the living room door behind them. When my DS first spotted where the burning was coming from he unplugged the lamp now for a 6 year old I though he done absoluty amazing.
Anyway I move the lamp of the door and I couldn't believe that the door had a big hole in it and was glowing red. I poured water in the hole but the door was still hot in places, I ran downstairs got a screwdriver and took the door of it hinges and placed it outside. I do have pictures of the door but I cant get into photobucket at the minute (ISP problems) so I could sent it too somebody and they post it for me.

I thought I would post this because if A halogen bulb can burn through wood in 15 minutes imagine what it would have done if it was touching a curtain. I know a few of my friends children had halogen bulbs in there kids bedrooms in lamps they have now removed them. So if you do have any please make sure they are not near anything.

And just to top it of my pet parrot Reggie boy died the same night which im really upset about :(

Thanks for the warning Sharon ~ Glad everyone was unhurt.

:grouphug: Sorry about Reggie :grouphug:

I managed to get onto photobucket so here is the damage.

OMG thats terrible!

Sorry about your Reggie :grouphug:

My kids don't have them anymore either. I have a friend who is a firefighter and I've heard plenty of stories of this sort of thing with halogen lamps. My DD is a college freshman and they aren't allowed in the dorms either.
I'm sorry you had to go through all that.

To be honest I think another couple of minutes and I wouldn't have been able to do anything. It certainly has made me more aware of things.

Oh my,i can't believe the damage it's done. :scared1:

OMG. That's terrible. You wouldn't believe a light bulb could do that.

:grouphug: Sorry to hear about Reggie :grouphug:

OMG! :scared1:

I can't believe the damage.
Glad everything is ok though, and sorry about Reggie.

:grouphug:

Glad no-one was hurt Sharon. That happened to my brother when he was younger. His lamp was touching agains the curtain and it went up in flames - the lamp had only been on a couple of minutes :scared1: My mum just pulled the curtain down and flung it out the window.

I can't believe the damage it did to your door though - such a relief that everyone is OK mind :grouphug:

Good grief. Well done to your son though!

Sorry to hear about Reggie Boy :grouphug:

OMG that's terrible! I can't believe it could do so much damage so fast, I'm so glad nobody was hurt.

Sharon :grouphug:

Sue :wave2:

Sharon I thought you hadn't been around for a day or two!

I just can't believe the damage that has caused. Thank goodness you were all OK!!

Well done to your son :)

HOLY SHH......cow
had a similar accident at neighbors last year.
playing a board game (they invited us over for dinner) when smelled smoke.
ran downstairs to see a pillow near a halogen lamp that their son had moved away and unplugged. the pillow (like for a couch) had a perfect circle type char mark
scary

glad the halogen lamp didnt burn down the whole house you were in!!

Thanks for posting this - I - along with I'm sure many others - would have no idea about this happening. I'm glad you had a happy ending, and who knows who else you will have helped :flower:

Goodness, that's awful! I'm so pleased nobody was hurt! :earseek: What kind of a lamp was it? I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "halogen" light bulb, hrm... I'm wondering if we have any in the house now!

Thank goodness no one was hurt! DH is a firefighter but as far as i know he's not been to a fire caused by halogen bulbs but the heat from them must be extreme! l know when one of our halogen bulbs go they trip the electric off, they are a real pain!

Thanks for the warning
