I have never heard of a masquerade ball. Does anyone have any experience or information that you would like to share? Thanks.

Yes we went last year on the Panama Canal cruise. It was an adult costume party and it was held up on the pool deck (actually the contest was on the pool deck and the ball, if I can remember correctly, was in the atrium). There were different categories like best original costume, group costume, etc. I was in a group of Maleficents (there were about 7 of them) and won a Haunted Mansion DVD (as did the other runner ups). It was all a ton of fun. On a Halloween cruise a few years ago it was held in Wavebands.

In the context of a Disney Cruise it is basically an adult costume party. There were some awesome costumes. One of the best we saw was the Flintstones family (not Disney but awesome anyway).

Our cruise was over actual Halloween and I don't know if that was the reason or because it was a specialty cruise but it was VERY well attended with a huge amount of guests dressing up.

This is an excerpt from the Disney Cruise web site under the Halloween on the High Seas heading:
  • Unearth some festive entertainment that awaits you during this ghoulish cruise:
    • Mickey's Mouse-querade Party
Shiver in delight during a scare-a-bration alive with ghoulish games, trick-or-treating, dancing and some favorite Disney Pals bedecked in Halloween attire.
    • Halloween Activities
Unearth frightful fun for the entire family, including mask-making and pumpkin-carving.
    • Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas Sing and Scream
It’s “Season’s Screamings” during this interactive movie experience, followed by a meet-and-greet with Jack and Sally.
    • Haunted Stories of the Sea
Listen to a ghost story or two during an eerie campfire-style storytelling experience on deck.
    • Halloween Isn't Just for Kids
Shudder and shake at this adults-only party that includes a costume contest.

Any idea what day it's typically held on a 7-day Eastern Carib cruise? I'd like to make sure I have the nursery booked.

I wouldn't call what we attended on Halloween '14 a "Masquerade Ball". It was billed as a contest and that's what it was. Judging was done in 5 categories with 5 contestants in each category. Winners were chosen by audience applause level. It was a real blast, very fun and the costumes were great.

Oh the costume party! Now I know what you are talking about! I definitely wouldn't call it a masquerade ball, but it was fun. It was held in one of the adult bars when we went. My sister and I went in costume, me as Rapunzel and my sister as Snow White. She got collared by a group who had dressed up as the dwarfs and she joined them for the group category! :rotfl: It was a laugh. There lots of good (what looked hired!) costumes (bitter cos I made ours:rotfl2:)
