I'm determined to NOT buy a costume this year but need ideas for creating something that a 5th grade girl would like. My DD10 has a habit of coming up and creating her idea for a costume and then at the last minute changing it, driving me crazy in the long run. lol

Looking for ideas on what you creative types out there on the boards have done in the past or are doing this year? TIA :worship:

I posted a question like this a week or two ago for myself. I know you can do searches, and maybe you can put my name in to find it?? I don't know how to do that, but people gave me great ideas!!! The one I'm probably going to go with is the 50s girl. I'm just going to put my hair up in a pony tail (to bad I don't have bangs) roll up a pair of jeans, and wear a white t-shirt. I don't know if thats more of a greaser, or what, but its what I'm going with. Maybe get bright red lip stick or something.... Good luck!!!!

I made this pink poodle costume for my dd9 last year from family fun magazine. We got so many compliments and it literally took me less than 30 min. to make. So easy! Its made from those scrunchy pouf balls you use in the shower, rubber bands or pony tail holders, a colored outfit, headband, and a sock with newpaper stuffing for the tail and ears.

heres a pic.....

I also put together dd2 dalmation puppy....we have a black and white fur childrens coat and made ears from her little piggy tails by tying a black nylon footie to each and using washable markers for her face paint. Got many compliments.

DD's friend did 50's girl 2 years ago. She didn't want a poodle skirt, so she did the rolled up jeans jean with a white pair of bobby socks and cheap white "Keds style" tennis shoes. For her top, she wore one of her sweater sets, but her mom cut her intial (from a piece of felt), al a Laverne's L, and stuck it on the sweater with double sided tape. She wore her hair in a pony tail and the bright red lip stick. I lent her one of my grandma scarves and she tied that around her neck. Her mom also found her a pair of the old cats eye style sunglasses that she wore. And she was chewing a huge wad of bubble gum.

Her older sister and boyfriend are going the same route this year. She is doing just about the same outfit, but she has a pink silk jacket - think pink ladies - from a dance costume that she is going to wear over a shirt. Her boyfriend is doing the whole greased, slicked back hair thing. He keeps asking us, if he is combing it right. He is just wearing jeans, with a white T shirt and a deck of cards rolled up in the sleeve, for the pack of cigs look. He is going to wear his dad black harley boots and leather jacket.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about the scarf, but I'm going to put it around my pony tail rather than my neck - I think that would really annoy my all night!! Also, the sweater set idea is a great one - I'll have to look into that since I don't have one! Thanks!!!!

My 9 year old DD is going to be the "Bad Baker" Her hair will be straight up on her head and have black in it.Kind of like this :scared1: Black soot on her face, apron and oven mits along with baking flour. She'll be carrying burnt muffins. We may put a chef hat on further back on her head.

DD is going as Waldo (Where's Waldo). Red and white striped shirt and jeans-done.

We were at MK for the MNSSHP on 9/18 and saw a guy wearing all his clothes backwards. That was easy. Also, single-color sweats and sweatshirts can go a long way (crayon, poodle, bar of chocolate).

Last year in 5th Grade my DD and her friend were Paper Bag Puppets. I got the idea off of Family Fun.com. You use brown packaging paper as the bag and staple the sides. Not the most comfy costume but cute. Here is a picture from Family Fun. I don't have one of my DD on this computer.

She's also been a table, covering a piece of foam board with a table cloth and glueing on dishes. Using a hat with flowers glued to it on her head as a centerpiece.

DD12 is playing around with this idea for this year. Just remembered what it was she was talking about for this year.

She has a pair of fleece footie pj. She is talking about wearing those, with a baby blanket tossed over her shoulder and carrying a teddy bear.

If she does this one, she wants me to put her hair up in pig tails, then roll her pig tails up with the pink rollers. She also wants me to paint freckles on her nose. She could wear her pink crocs with this outfit. And if we have the normal cooler weather, it would keep her warm.
