Halloween Horror Nights Crowds?

My mom and I are interested in going to Halloween Horror Nights this year at Universal. We've always gone to Knotts but this year we want to try something new. Knotts always has crazy crowds during their Halloween event but we still like going. We're thinking about going on the weekend of either Oct. 4th or Oct. 11th and was wondering how the crowds are those weekends. We were wondering if the front of the line pass was worth it for this event. Any help would be great. Thanks

My sister and I went on Sept 30 last year...i think it was its first night.
It was crowded, but we had the express passes so never waited in line.
Since we wanted to see everything, we felt we needed the passes just in case. We saw every house and a couple of shows and rode the Mummy 4 times!

I had fun, but I love getting scared and boy, did I...they honed in on me like white on rice and I nearly peed my pants and nearly broke my sister's shoulder from squeezing it so hard. But since I like getting scared (afterwards) I had a great time.

I'd say that if you are going on a weeknight and if you don't mind if you don't see everything, save the money and don't get the express pass. But if this is a one time shot and you want to see it all and especially if its a weekend...do.

(BTW...there are a lot of people who post on the universal thread that go all the time and are quite knowledgeable. Check it out)

Saturdays are busier than Fridays.

Last year it was crazy busy and this year might be even busier
because of fairly good word of mouth. Most of the mazes were
90 minutes and longer to get in by 9PM.

I'll give ya my experience.

I too would go to Knotts, and tried Horror Nights last year. We went on a Saturday, mid of the month or so. The walk from the parking lot to Universals was pretty long, no trams from what I experienced, but it was tolerable. Once you get there to the front gates, you can already hear everyone screaming and getting scared. The music already crawls down your spine, but at the same time you're excited to drop in to see how it's like.

Once we went in, there were monsters that did run/walk around. They don't come rushing at you just yet. It's fairly left dark with some lights shown around, lights are purple to other colors. The whole vibe is great UNTIL, we went down the 3 escalators to get to the lower lot. Which had the Chainsaw Massacre, Jurrasic Park, among other things. They DID let Leatherface run around with a chainsaw, some clowns as well.

While we did have a good time down there, it was time to come back up. And going through those escalators, killed the scary vibe again. We then went to the ride where they take you via tram to the back lot. You walk through a huge maze that's too open with little to no monsters roaming around. I felt as if it was a waste of time, but it was okay. We did pretty much everything, every show as well. Chucky's comedy show is very funny once people get involved. He interacts with you and jokes around lol.

This year, I find myself going back to Knott's though. If anything, do message me if you need more info!

Would anyone have a touring plan for Universal Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights? Will be going either October 3rd or 4th. If it was just me, I would focus only on the Horror Night attractions since I will be visiting the park again during the day during my trip, but that weekend, I will be going to HHN with people who that will be their only Universal Hollywood experience.

I will be there when the gates open at 7pm. Would it be best to just go directly to the Terror Tram, do all the mazes and then focus on the shows and rides towards the end of the evening? I have heard the lines for the mazes/houses grow pretty big around 9pm or so, so don't know how the lines to the rides would be going towards midnight.

I want to do the Terror Tram first since I'm dying to get a picture close up of the Psycho house and hopefully when the gates open, they may be a little day light still left.

Also, I know the roaming characters are there to scare people, but is it possible to get photo opps with any characters, especially Freddy, Jason or Leatherface during the night?
