When does the Halloween decor go up at DL? It's up already at WDW.
This is an extreme bummer. I had no clue they took the ride down for so long to install the overlay.HMH usually does not open early, sorry!

It really chaps my hide the more I think about it. I even emailed guest services to vent. I know it does absolutely no good but it made me feel better.Same, we accidentally booked over the closure as well. We are even staying in a Haunted Mansion themed Airbnb because we love HM so much. Really bummed, we are from NY and this will be my first DL trip in 20 years, my kid's first. Really disappointed to be missing it and was hoping it could open early. We will be there Aug 27-29.
Same- my jaw hit the floor when I realized it would be closed. I never thought that early for a Halloween/Christmas overlay. And I’ll pm you about the Airbnb I don’t know if I can post a link here. It’s so cool though can’t wait to be there! It really chaps my hide the more I think about it. I even emailed guest services to vent. I know it does absolutely no good but it made me feel better.
I booked early enough to be able to secure our dining reservations, etc. but at that point there was nothing on the websites citing the closure dates for HM. Since we aren't locals, we had no idea when to expect this closure but I definitely never dreamt it would be in August.
BTW, I'd love to hear more about the HM themed airbnb.
Agree on Monsters Inc - we have 3 year old twins who really like Monsters Inc, and I was bummed to hear this one would be closed for our visit (they will run with the villains crowd as they are always obsessed with the bad guy, really latched onto Randall, and have even made up a song about him?!)I was there one year (prior to COVID) when it opened one day early but I have never heard of it opening any earlier than that so at best it will open September 1st which doesn't sound like it will be of any help to you guys. I am going to be there around the same time and knew enough to expect it to be closed while we were there but what I am bummed about is that Monster's Inc will be closed which I wasn't expecting when I booked the trip a few months ago. I have an almost 3 year old and it is one of the few fastpass (it will always be fastpass to me) rides in DCA she can go on since she is not 40 inches yet.
I always practice with my kids and have them learn how to stand up stretching tall with straight knees. I think that has helped when they are Just about right at the height requirement. I have had where they are tall enough for one ride and then another with the same height requirements they weren’t tall enough for. So be prepared for that.Agree on Monsters Inc - we have 3 year old twins who really like Monsters Inc, and I was bummed to hear this one would be closed for our visit (they will run with the villains crowd as they are always obsessed with the bad guy, really latched onto Randall, and have even made up a song about him?!)
Anyway they are right about at 40 inches, so I am honestly not sure whether they will be allowed on those rides or not - if the sign is just a little over 40 inches, I don’t think they’ll make it. Fingers crossed they’ll get on as I think they will enjoy some of the 40 in rides like Soarin and RSR.
Have a wonderful trip!
Well, not everyone knows this happens in August of every year. The rest of us assumed it would be in September sometime actually closer to Halloween."Yeah, mom, just like every August!"
This will be a really nice treat to see in person. I honestly never imagined the decor would be up in August. They already started setting up decorations! Granted, it's not everything but there are definitely subtle elements going up throughout the park.

Wow! That is unreal but super awesome. It was pretty interesting, especially when it was still 90 degrees out. Similar to when they add snow to the castle during the last week of October
The store windows on Main Street are decorated with pumpkins, but of course I didn't get photos. This one is the only photo I have of the decorations, but one of my favorites with the black cat peeking out of the pumpkin!

Merchandise is also very much set up. The World of Disney store already has a whole section dedicated to it across from the Avengers section in addition to playing Halloween music.
