Halloween Decor

Also, I don't know how I managed to book our trip during the Haunted Mansion closure for the Halloween overlay, but I did. Have they ever opened up a few days early? My husband's favorite ride and I blew it.

Decor will start showing up over the course of the next few weeks. I think I saw a post that a few things have already appeared in Main Street shop windows. But everything will be fully installed by Sept 2nd. The giant mickey pumpkin will probably show up a few days before that. HMH usually does not open early, sorry!

This is an extreme bummer. I had no clue they took the ride down for so long to install the overlay.

It’s a lot more complex of a change than something like Hyperspace Mountain, which is why. This involves full on animatronics and huge changes to every room.

I always wish it was only up for Halloween and not through Christmas, but I get that they want to get their time and money’s worth out of all the work they put into it. (I’m not a TNBC fan, though I do enjoy HMH more than I enjoy the movie. 😂)

Haunted Mansion is scheduled to close starting tomorrow (Monday, Aug 15) for the changeover to Haunted Mansion Holiday. It usually takes about 2.5 weeks so it's unlikely to open early, unfortunately. It's much more than an overlay which is why it takes so long. It involves removing a number of the classic HM elements and installation of many HMH elements including a elaborate cake on the dining table in the ballroom.

Same, we accidentally booked over the closure as well. We are even staying in a Haunted Mansion themed Airbnb because we love HM so much. Really bummed, we are from NY and this will be my first DL trip in 20 years, my kid's first. Really disappointed to be missing it and was hoping it could open early. We will be there Aug 27-29.

It really chaps my hide the more I think about it. I even emailed guest services to vent. I know it does absolutely no good but it made me feel better.

I booked early enough to be able to secure our dining reservations, etc. but at that point there was nothing on the websites citing the closure dates for HM. Since we aren't locals, we had no idea when to expect this closure but I definitely never dreamt it would be in August.

BTW, I'd love to hear more about the HM themed airbnb.

I was there one year (prior to COVID) when it opened one day early but I have never heard of it opening any earlier than that so at best it will open September 1st which doesn't sound like it will be of any help to you guys. I am going to be there around the same time and knew enough to expect it to be closed while we were there but what I am bummed about is that Monster's Inc will be closed which I wasn't expecting when I booked the trip a few months ago. I have an almost 3 year old and it is one of the few fastpass (it will always be fastpass to me) rides in DCA she can go on since she is not 40 inches yet.

Same- my jaw hit the floor when I realized it would be closed. I never thought that early for a Halloween/Christmas overlay. And I’ll pm you about the Airbnb I don’t know if I can post a link here. It’s so cool though can’t wait to be there!

My mom just sent me this panicked text saying "OMG I just saw that the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland is now closed to be rethemed!" She's just reading her Mom news feed or whatever an didn't actually read the entire thing. I'm like, "Yeah, mom, just like every August!"

Agree on Monsters Inc - we have 3 year old twins who really like Monsters Inc, and I was bummed to hear this one would be closed for our visit (they will run with the villains crowd as they are always obsessed with the bad guy, really latched onto Randall, and have even made up a song about him?!)

Anyway they are right about at 40 inches, so I am honestly not sure whether they will be allowed on those rides or not - if the sign is just a little over 40 inches, I don’t think they’ll make it. Fingers crossed they’ll get on as I think they will enjoy some of the 40 in rides like Soarin and RSR.

Have a wonderful trip!

They already started setting up decorations! Granted, it's not everything but there are definitely subtle elements going up throughout the park.

I always practice with my kids and have them learn how to stand up stretching tall with straight knees. I think that has helped when they are Just about right at the height requirement. I have had where they are tall enough for one ride and then another with the same height requirements they weren’t tall enough for. So be prepared for that.

This will be a really nice treat to see in person. I honestly never imagined the decor would be up in August.

It was pretty interesting, especially when it was still 90 degrees out. Similar to when they add snow to the castle during the last week of October

The store windows on Main Street are decorated with pumpkins, but of course I didn't get photos. This one is the only photo I have of the decorations, but one of my favorites with the black cat peeking out of the pumpkin!

Merchandise is also very much set up. The World of Disney store already has a whole section dedicated to it across from the Avengers section in addition to playing Halloween music.

Wow! That is unreal but super awesome.

For future folks reading this thread..

Halloween usually starts around Labor Day at Disneyland. So usually that means HM will go down mid August.
