Cruising this October and I just got an email from DCL telling me about Halloween onboard and to bring a costume.

I honestly hadn't even thought about this as we've never cruised during this time of year.

Anyone have any fun pointers/recommendations for Halloween cruises? Any can't miss activities to look out for?

There usually is a showing of The Nightmare before Christmas with a meet and Greet with Jack and Sally after. Also a nice story about the halloween tree in the main lobby. You write wishes on leaves and watch it grow pumpkins over the cruise. But the biggest not to miss is the "trick or treat" party. Characters are out and many people are dressed up in costume. We did Wreck it Ralph, Vanellope, and Fix it Felix. We saw a few incredibles, 101 Dalmatians, etc. Just a lot of fun, but don't expect Mickey's Not so Scary Halloween party level of candy. In fact it was very modest.

You might look at navigators from past Halloween seasons to help you Get a sense of the activities. There are quite a few available on www.dclblog.com

The Halloween activities vary from ship to ship, and the parties seem to be evolving from year to year. We participated in the adult costume party and there were some great costumes.

Thanks for the link to the dcl blog. I find the actual Disney website spectacularly unhelpful so this is a good resource.

I guess I need to ponder costumes!

On the 3 night Dream cruise, do people wear the Halloween costumes to dinner instead of Pirate night clothes?

I got the email too, just wondering if many people will be participating on my 9/7 cruise. It isn't very close to Halloween. I'm also wondering when the contest will be held. We have booked a number of activities already. I'll check out the old navigators

I wish. More like generic taffy and hard tack. That was on the Fantasy. I hope they'll improve the "loot" this year.
Thanks. I don't mean to sound ungrateful but I was hoping for things like mini bags of pretzels, dried apples and raisins. I know they give things like that out at the theme park trick or treating events. And chocolate ( for me )

Awesome! what are you guys going as? I spoke to Concierge last night (just an awesome group of folks) and they could not tell me which night the contest would be.

We are on the Magic 10/23 sailing and I can't wait for Halloween. We're going to have to bring an extra suitcase for all our costumes. We've got Halloween, pirate, and all my daughter's princess stuff. Oy!!!!
