Hallmark Movies ❤️ comfort & joy

I enjoyed two perhaps smaller movies called A Slice of Chicago Romance and A Priceless Love. Both movies were so refreshing. A Slice of Chicago Romance shared how two once rival family pizza restaurants bridged their differences to become friends, help each other, and create two new jointly owned restaurants.

A Priceless Love reminded me a liitle of A Very Vintage Christmas, which I always enjoy. The two main characters work together to find the rightful owner of an old very valuable teapot. The owner chooses to donate her half of the proceeds from the teapot's sale back into the community.

Speaking of Sarah Power, I've been loosely watching reruns of The Good Witch (free with 1-2 10 second ads) on YouTube. I've kind of had it on in the background while I am doing other things. I had never really watched it much before, as I don't care for Catherine Bell (Cassie) playing mysterious all the time. Just yesterday, two new characters were introduced that looked "whiter" and more bland than the Ken doll from Barbie ever looked.

It literally SHOCKED me that they cast two people so cardboard, but OBVIOUSLY chosen because they were white. These were recurring roles. One is supposed to be a good friend of James Denton's character, and his son seems interested in Cassie's daughter, and she in him. They could have cast a couple of people a bit more interesting, white or any race. But, it was so obvious that these two were cardboard cutouts of Ken.

That made me purposely start watching for minorities/diversity. Usually Hallmark has been good about hiring minorities for the supporting roles. NOT The Good Witch. The only time I saw a minority was as a deep background extra player. Then I looked at the full cast list for the entire series on the IMDb .com. Out of 76 episodes, only one minority actor was hired twice, because he was a hotdog vendor. And a few other minority actors were hired for a few more episodes each. Everybody else on the show is white.

I knew that Hallmark got criticized for their lack of diversity. And they ended up with a new CEO the past few years, who made diversity her #1 change to the network, with some lead actresses as minorities. But, as I said, usually smaller roles have been going to minorities in their movies. So, it took a bit (when I finally paid attention to the TV,) to notice that this series didn't cast minorities, and then went to an extreme to get two Ken dolls for characters who couldn't really act. This went on for the 7 years of the series. I am beyond shocked. 😲 (And there were yearly movies for 7 years before the series started. I haven't checked to see how the casting was in those.)
That is really disturbing. How hard is it to cast people of color?! Not very 😡

Tomorrow night's schedule for Great American Family doesn't make sense. According to this poster and also on their website, they have Christmas Wreaths & Ribbons listed for tomorrow night. It a movie that was previously, tentatively named Wreathmaker Christmas and was set to premiere on Nov. 30. It's obvious they want to get a week ahead of Hallmark in premiering new Christmas movies. Great! :thumbsup2

But, it doesn't appear that they told the different TV schedule services, if it's true. I checked the TV schedules for three different services providers on both coasts and Love in Aruba is scheduled instead. 🤷‍♀️

I think I liked Love in Aruba. Was that the movie where a dad and his daughter took a nanny with them to Aruba so the dad could work? If so, I did enjoy it and hope any of you who watch will too :)

Argh! I just found out the title of this movie is Curious Caterer: Forbidden Fruit, NOT Curious Caterer Mysteries: Forbidden Fruit. All the other movies are titled, Curious Caterer Mysteries. For some reason, on YouTube TV, it will say it recorded it as it's part of the Curious Caterer Mysteries series. But, when I went to look for it, it's not listed under the SERIES with the other movies.

I had to do a Search for just "Forbidden Fruit" and it brought the movie up. I had to click on where it said it was in my Library somewhere. THEN it started playing, even though it's not listed with the rest of the series because of the missing word "Mysteries."

Did anyone else have a problem with their Hallmark channels looking bright red? Ours looked like every shot was filmed through a bright, red filter. It didn't happen during commercials nor on any other channel, so it wasn't our TV settings.

My wife and I really like "Angels and Ornaments" but it was difficult to watch, as everything was bright red.

I watched Haunted Wedding and really enjoyed it. The plot was fun but not too ridiculous (considering the premise). I thought it was very appropriate to the season, and I would be happy for more Halloween 🎃 season movies next autumn. Nice wrap up and segue into Christmas 🎄

Oh wait, there is actually one more Halloween type movie. It's set to premiere on Halloween night. I think it may air on Hallmark Mystery as it's a mystery. I saw a promo for it the other day. 🎃

I watched it Saturday night and liked it too! On Sunday, my son walked through the living room and was good-naturedly kidding me about watching the Hallmark channel again.

Him: "So, Mom... what's the current theme? Does Hallmark do Halloween movies?"
Me: "Yep. I just watched the Haunted Wedding last night."
He stops and slowly turns: "Haunted Wedding?"
Me, nodding: "There were ghosts AND a wedding... and one of the actors played the groom AND the ghost!"
Daughter, googling the movie on her phone: "Hey! I know him. He was in Shadowhunters!"

Fifteen minutes later, I was booting up Peacock to show parts of the movie to both of them. You know, if Hallmark keeps hiring some of these younger actors in those book-based tv series, they'll attract a whole new generation.

We enjoyed "Haunted Wedding" but we both agree that we enjoyed "3 Bed, 2 Bath, 1 Ghost" much more. That's mainly because of Madeleine Arthur who played the ghost Ruby Baker. Her character's sassiness reminded us of Amy Adams' role as Amelia Earhart in "Night at the Museum" Battle of the Smithsonian".
