Hallmark Movies ❤️ comfort & joy

Just watched Holidate on Netflix, so cute and really funny, much much better than I thought it would be. Also streamed last night an older Hallmark movie from Youtube called A Dog Named Christmas, really cute and heartwarming about a disabled boy and a vet dad and a dog that comes into their lives. Definitely recommend both. We stream with a Firestick, cut the cord, so am still learning more ways to get the movies free, will keep you posted. Going to try to find a lot of the ones mentioned on here.

YES! Totally have have had that happen multiple times.

Was the winter movie you're thinking of Love on the Slopes (2018)? If so I agree. I thought Thomas Beaudoin was rugged, handsome, and subdued but also had a heart of gold underneath it all in Spirit of Christmas and that really really worked IMO for that role. But then I saw him in Love on the Slopes and it just fell flat for me mostly . Now I didn't dislike the movie just wasn't the same oomph that he had in his other role. I'm sure I'll be rewatching The Spirit of Christmas again this year. I've seen it at least 6 times

Yes! I could have written all that myself. :thumbsup2 Also, The Spirit of Christmas, has been out for a few years. I've seen it quite a few times myself.

:rotfl:Okay great now I'll be thinking of this every time I see her now

Oops! :duck: :lmao:

I just finished "On the 12th Date of Christmas". I really liked it. :santa:

In general, I think I'm finding that this year's batch is more upbeat than previous years. (I know, I know, how do you get more upbeat than a Hallmark Christmas movie?:rotfl2:) But what I mean is that, even though the typical misunderstandings happen, they don't seem to be letting them get as big this year as in previous years.

when she thinks he got the promotion, she doesn't run off to Iowa! I feel like that might have happened in last year's batch.

I don't know if the writers got negative feedback on previous movies, or if they just sensed we needed a few simple solutions this year, but I like the trend.

TMZ estimated that Lori Loughlin is set to be released from prison Dec 27. Since that falls on a weekend, (Sunday,) the federal prison system releases prisoners early, on a weekday, Friday before. But, that is Christmas, a holiday. So they may release her on Christmas eve. 🎄

TMZ was joking that it's just like a Hallmark movie. :lmao:Or better yet, maybe they do a Christmas play in prison. Lori decides to stay to do it, because she realizes they've become her new family. :rotfl:

Ok, now that's funny. :lmao:

Watched "Never kiss a man in a Christmas Sweater" today. I read this book last year so was wondering how it would be changed for Hallmark, the only thing the same was the woman and daughter's names, there was a bicycle accident in the book, he broke his leg. I'm sure they had to buy the rights to the book and they changed everything, I liked the movie but it was not really "based" on the book.

UP in recent years has been doing movies based on Harlequin novels I've never read any of the ones they've made into movies (I've read plenty of Harlequin just not the ones they've turned into movies). I've always wondered how close they followed them.

Unfortunately, a lot of movies get changed a lot from the books. I wonder if the production companies buy the rights to the book purely for the publicity of saying it's "based" on a book?

We had an old thread for the HBO series, True Blood, based on a series of books. The thread ended up with a sub-thread within the thread for those who read the books. The books were sooo different, some characters in the books dying that lived in the TV series, others living in the books that died in the TV series, that the sub-thread wasn't even a spoiler thread for the TV series. :upsidedow

J.K. Rowling is an exception. She had so much money by the time she was approached to do the movies, that she could walk away if they didn't do the movies true to the books. It was written in the contract.

Watched Operation Christmas Drop last night on Netflix. I enjoyed it, it's based on a real thing and did like the actors in it. The way it was filmed also was gorgeous, beautiful scenery and color which sometimes Hallmark movies don't have. Not saying it was the very best but for me definitely was worth watching and enjoyed. Wasn't on Hallmark but on Neflix but very Hallmark like type movie.

I watched Holly and Ivy yesterday or at least the last hour of it! When I hit "play" the DVR must have started at the point where I had turned off the TV airing instead of starting at the beginning. It was very sweet and sad as well! I loved the bookmobile Book Elf idea! I could see such a thing being expanded to perhaps include games for kids and families as well. Thanks, PollyannaMom and all for the recommendation :)

Can you explain the bookmobile Book Elf idea a bit more? I'm not sure I'm up for a sad Christmas movie.

Sure! It was an idea that Holly and Ivy, the kids in the movie, helped to give their soon-to-be (at that point in the movie) adopted Mom, Melody. Melody's dream is to become a librarian. Holly, Ivy, and Melody had dropped off some books to a lady who (I think) had health issues that kept her at home. She very appreciative of that. The trio had even brought a selection of books from which the lady could choose from. The Book Elf is what Nina (the Mother of Holly and Ivy who sadly dies--we do not see a funeral or memorial service or anything-- gives to Melody. The Book Elf is to be a traveling mini library to elderly, schools, and others. I thought it was a very sweet and great idea :)

A little commercial trivia. :) I've seen these Hallmark movie supporting actors in some commercials.

Can you guess the Hallmark Movie?

The boyfriend/fiance in The Christmas Card.

This one isn't a Christmas movie, but one of Hallmark's summer summer movies. They even made a trilogy of this movie.

Lacey Chabert's movies where she is a chef who inherits half an house and turns it into a bed & breakfast inn. This actor plays a character who owns the General Store in town and also works as a handyman in later movies. The trilogy of movies are the All of My Heart, series.

And there's the daughter in this commercial. It's so new that it isn't posted on YouTube yet. But, it's showing on Hallmark during the commercial breaks. Click to see it at this link:

This is the young girl in, Christmas at Holly Lodge, where she and her mom come to stay as the Dad is stationed in Afghanistan.
