Half Marathon - Train with me for Jan '11 - ...Shock - an update! 4/06! new pix

Maroo ITA with your rant - I, nor my family "qualify" for the early vaccine - (no high risk! ) but I have to tell you in order for our family to get vaccinated its $100! and then I play the game of what to do with $100....

so my rant is - its a pandemic - offer it for FREE - and just see how long that line is to get the vaccine!! Health care? WE NEED HEALTH CARE for the welfare of this country!

Uh...I thought they were free? H1N1 is supposed to be free? They "can" charge a vaccine fee...but we aren't.

(that's right, with a low employee in dh's company, we never had cheap health care - the deductables and copays were HIGH - now he's laid off, and we have nothing! But faith, and trust - )

Oh no.

Today GMA was talking to a mom who's heart stopped 4 times - H1N1 - she was pregnant at the time - (delivered by C-section to save the baby, all is well with baby!) BUT she kept saying "I never felt it was the flu" "It didnt feel like the flu" "I still cant believe the test came back that I had the flu"

At one point the doctors thought they would need to do a lung transplant! :scared1:

I've heard on a couple of other shows, the doctors are saying that this flu the fluid builds up ON THE OUTSIDE of the lungs - and doctors are "missing" that while listening for fluid IN the lungs!!

Really? That is scary!

Maroo I just cant believe you are still running a fever! It does sound like mono with the sleep, and lingering fever! Just keep on keepin on - getting healthy!!

At least mono would go away! Sleep apnea wouldn't. :(

I do hope that everyone that can does get the vaccine - it will help stop the spread of this pandemic flu! If not for your health - think of the others you come in contact with -

This will help people like Lauren to keep from getting sick. Although now the healthy people need protecting, too.

My mother is recovering from the swine flu. She's a school teacher and picked it up at school from a kid coughing in her face. She was a high-risk so she went to the doctor early after showing some symptoms and they put her on tamiflu on Saturday. She's feeling a lot better today. She said that she's still feeling tired still but her energy is starting to return. She hasn’t had a temp since Sat or Sun – that went away pretty soon after she began taking the tamiflu. She still has a cough left and is going to the doctor this afternoon to see if they want to put her on an antibiotic for the cough or not. She plans to return to school tomorrow - she's feeling up to going back to work now. She called me a few minutes ago – was playing monopoly on her computer and had to tell me that she now “owns the world!”. I pray that she’s fully recovered. She said that she’s starting to feel fine.

As for the vaccine – I won’t get it. I don’t get even the regular flu vaccine. I watch too many people take the flu vaccine each year, then I watch as a different strain of the flu shows up than what the vaccine covers, then I watch as people who took the flu shot get the flu. I’ve never had the flu shot and I’ve never had the flu. I’m currently just being careful to run the opposite way if I hear someone cough. I try not to touch my face (eyes, mouth, nose) unless I just washed my hands. I wash my hands A LOT! I’m 30 years old so I’m in the 3rd risk group for the swine flu and I’m really never around kids (the first and second risk group)– and they are the primary group picking this thing up! I can’t WAIT for flu season to be over with! My only concern is that I will be on an airplane in two days. That is recycled air! Here's to praying that no one sick is on my flight (going or the return flight!)

I am SOOOO glad your Mom is feeling better! I hope she continues to recover. My mom is into Bridge. She plays online all of the time!

Stay safe and I hope you don't get it this winter! It is going to be a long flu season. Already so cold everywhere. Flu and winter came early this year.

Well, my mother has officially moved from the swine flu to bronchitis. She's ticked- she was feeling up to going back to school today but thought she'd better get her cough checked out first. She usually manages to get bronchitis at least once per year so this is nothing new for her. They gave her a breathing treatment and an antibiotic for it and told her she can go back on Monday.

Sandy - how is your training schedule going? Please keep us updated!

maroo? Eyor?

I did my 5 miles Wed night. Temp's had gone back up to mid 80's and there was humidity. Plus, I wasn't able to get there to run until after dark (still hot and humid after dark)... wasn't too keen on running solo at night but I was fine. I did 3 miles last night and have 9 miles scheduled for tomorrow.

Hello again everyone.
Sorry I haven't been around much. I am going to do better now. I think I am half way caught up after being gone.

Sandy
I hope things are going okay with DH's job. Right now my DH and I are okay, but you never know. I am desperately trying to pay everything off incase something does happen, but then something breaks at home and the cycle keeps going. I keep thinking that we should not be spending the money for Thanksgiving, but everyone is so looking forward to it and I really need a break from reality. As I have discovered Disney is the only place that I can go that I truly get an escape from reality. So, this will be a cheap trip and DS is trying hard to understand that.

Maroo,
How are you feeling? Good today I hope. I'm praying it is not sleep apnea. Although a coworker has that and he feels so much better since he has started using the sleep machine. Whatever is wrong, I just hope they figure it out and you start feeling better soon.

Dolce
I am with you. I am in a low risk group, even though I have kids. I very rarely get the flu, strep throat is my thing, and neither do my kids. I talked to the pediatrician and she said no, not to get it even for the kids. Plus I too watch people get the vaccination and then get the flu. My mother for one. Every year same thing. and the whole time she is sick she fuses at me cause I don't get it. Plus, I am a huge wuss. I hate the thought of someone jabbing me with a piece of metal. Yes, so much that I avoid them whenever possible. Blood work is only done after the doctor insist it is completely necessary. I have a HUGE aversion to needles.

Hope your mom is better soon.

Training:
That's not been happening. Only found the time, one time in NY and after we got back:
Sunday, Gram and neices came over for dinner.
Monday, DH left for business trip and it rained
Tuesday, Rained, stormed
Wednesday, had to finish cleaning the dance studio
Thursday, hair appt and rain
Today, gonna watch DD perform before the football game and then DH and DS will be working for the fire department at the game.
Tomorrow - clean house, soccer and then Navy Ball in evening.
Sunday - April and Chloee will have spend the night and Gram and neices will be coming over in evening.

I am hoping to get out early Sat. AM and that DH will watch the girls so April and I can go out Sunday morning. If not, I will be back on track (literally) on Monday. I am so looking forward to it. Plus the track in my neighborhood just had the lights installed. :cool1: They aren't turned on yet, but it's progress.

yeah... training.. must get back to that...

I've only done about 2 miles, indoors....

but - my update, my mom is calling me from some backroom in Texas - with COACH bags!!
:rotfl2:

Its hard to describe my mother - but she called to ask if I wanted a black or brown coach bag!! and what about DD?

then she called - because they spent money in the first backroom, they got to move onto another closed room - this one has coach shoes!!

:rotfl2:

and what size is DD? :rotfl2:

I'm sure this is a Christmas present! But at 4th of July we had a huge family reunion - and my niece went to the Coach Outlet and tried to convince her mom and my mom that the HUGE Coach bag she bought on sale at 75% off was only around $50 :rotfl2:
(since our family had been estranged, she hadnt counted on all the female Coach lovers that nailed her - she was not happy and stormed off - my mom defended her, we took mom to the Coach outlet, showed her the bag - 30% off of $275 :rotfl2:

BUT that was when my mom asked me what would be my favorite Coach bag? (I said leather, or pink!! :rotfl2: Cant wait to see how this turns out!! You just never know with my mom and shopping!! :rotfl2:)

Are any of you guys interested in going to the October half????

Hugs to your Mom - I hope she feels much better soon! If the flu has caused a secondary infection...please tell her to be careful and to go to the ER if she has trouble breathing. I have done lots of reading on the subject and secondary infections can be a signal of a more severe case.

Awesome that you guys are getting lights on your track.

I talked to my parents about the sleep apnea thing. My Mom has always said my dad had it...he snores.

But I had NO idea that my little brother was just diagnosed with it.

Knowing that makes me think it might really be that? Sounds like my genes stink for it. The tech also told me that they usually let you know "quick" if you don't have it and it takes forever if you do have it, because they analyze the test? :confused3 And it has now been a week. Which seems like an eternity to me.

I am still really tired. I just want an answer.

And...uh...I don't even know what Coach is? Am I slow? What am I missing?

DH looked into that Oct race - he thought that it wouldnt be that great - unless we did it as a relay - its at night, by the time I finished, it would be too late to enjoy the festivities, plus I'll smell bad!!

Dolce hope your mom is well on the way to health now!!

eeyor/Lisa hope you are finding time for you!! Glad you are getting lights, its getting dark way too early!!

Maroo it sounds like sleep apnea indeed! Regis Philbin went thru the sleep study - he didnt think he snored, or had sleep apnea, and is now on the CPap - know that if the first one isnt comfortable, there are other masks - make sure you get one you can use!! He had to get a new mask and said it really does make a difference!! Hope you get some sleep soon!!

Coach Purse! :rotfl2: There is a huge following (here on the Dis even!) she's been sending me pictures! I think they found a motherload of sales!! she sent me a picture of all the "loute" :rotfl2: they bought!!

Mom says its for her birthday!! Everyone Celebrate!

DH forgot to pick up DD birthday cake - he didnt leave me with money - and they went to the 4 hour Toy Story movie! Store closed by the time the movie ended! We had to get a cookie instead!! :goodvibes

I can't mention Coach around my DW. She'll want to take a ride to the outlets!!! She has a few of them already.. how many do you women need?:confused3

LOLOL:rotfl2:

LOLOL:rotfl2:

I will see if I can upload the phone pics to the computer and will post pictures of the "loute" (ie loot)

and as I tried to tell my mom - you need one for each season minimum!! Then there is a Disney purse, a vacation purse, and a laptop bag (Coach has some bags that will hold a laptop... :rolleyes1)

It sounds like this was better prices than the outlet prices!! :wizard:

I think I may need to PM Cheshire Figment (a Dis'er CM who works tickets at WDW!)

So schools do the fundraiser, selling entertainment books - because I'm a teacher, the PTO gave them to all the teachers... and I'm flipping thru and see DISNEYWORLD TICKETS!!

so I go online - a 10 day adult ticket with tax and park hopping is....
$280....

then I go to disney.com site - same ticket with tax and park hopping is...
$314....

seriously?

So in the book it is $280... Disney site is $314?

UT through mousesavers news letter it is $299 including tax. If that $280 includes tax that is a great deal.:thumbsup2

Most websites and "specials" scam you on the tax. I'd ask that first....

Most websites and "specials" scam you on the tax. I'd ask that first....

the site is entertainmentbook.com/funtickets (I may be off on that memory funticket? funtickets...?)

so the price of tax is $19.18 - for the sake of speed - I included the taxes in both examples -

and then I posted it on the Budget board - one moderator pointed out that they will get you with a $9 shipping and handling charge! aha catch one...

Cheshire Figment pointed out that they could be using prices prior to Disney's August price increase - aha point well taken...

So maybe at the next payday we will input information to find the true final cost - but it may be worth it if we can indeed save $100 for the 3 tickets!

Stay tuned!!

Sandy do you get the mousesavers newsletter? Let me know if you don't, I can email the latest on to you. If you use the link in the newsletter you save a few more dollars on the UT prices. UT prices include tax and free shipping as well. And if you happen to forget them at home :rolleyes1 they can help you there too!!!! :rotfl:

Sandy, excellant if you can save a bit on tickets. Every little bit helps. :thumbsup2

I want to see the Disney Coach bag.

Maroo
Have you heard anything yet? I haven't looked at the new Half in October, other than the dates. It is at night? For me, that sounds good. I walk better at night. and October good be some great weather. I just want to see if I can finish this one first before I sign up for another. Although I am planning to do January again in 2011.

Yes Tim, who would leave their Disney tickets at home? (although I do have nightmares about that)

Dolce - where are you?

Hi there!! :)

Well, I still have not heard from my sleep study. They say that it takes up to two weeks to hear. Evidently if they find any abnormalities the doctor here reads it AND they get a second opinion, too. This sleep center has a really good reputation of not "over" treating.

I did find out that my brother, who is 32, has sleep apnea. He just got diagnosed in July. And my father has had it for years. For whatever that is worth.

I think just thinking I may not be getting good sleep has magnified the problem and I am quite tired. Although I was quite tired already.

I am definitely planning on the half in October.

At this point, it looks like any trip in January would be as a spectator. Then I will do the half with my friend Lisa in March - Plane tickets have been bought and I should have time to train once they figure out why I am so exhausted.

Then I would like to do the half in October. I would also consider a relay. Honestly, doing 6 or 7 miles is plenty of a challenge for me and it would be fun to do it as a team with someone.

I spent the night at Lauren's last night. Lauren is sick and her Mom was tied up with William and Richard had to work late. So I slept on the couch. Not a good idea.

Lauren has an important doctors appt today about her neck that is getting more and more crooked. Lisa wants me to come so I can remember everything he said. If he says Lauren has to have surgery, Lisa is going to have a meltdown. I hope he is conservative with her and tries some other treatment first.

Anyway...that is how I am doing.

How are you guys doing????

Is the training going well?

oh wow Maroo, I hope you get answers soon. My mom has it and uses the machine, it's made a huge difference in her life.

And grumpiness!

:rotfl::rotfl:

My prayers are with you all for Lauren's appointment today.

Dying to find out how Lauren's appt. went!!

Sandy- well, all of you, YOU'RE DOING SO WELL. You're sticking it out and are getting so healthy!! Hurrah for you!!! :cheer2:

I guess taking time to get a second opinion is a good idea. Okay, we will try to be patient with you. At this point, it looks like any trip in January would be as a spectator. Looks like I need to read up more on this. You can do it as a relay? That would be a piece of cake. so, I say right now. given I have only done 8 miles once, perhaps I shouldn't be so confident. :upsidedow

I spent the night at Lauren's last night. Lauren is sick and her Mom was tied up with William and Richard had to work late. So I slept on the couch. Not a good idea.
Lauren is sick again.......or still.....that isn't good. But I think I may have missed something. What is going on with William? Is he sick also?

I did 4 miles last night and I might add it was 57 degrees. Gotta get ready for that January weather.
My mom has it and uses the machine, it's made a huge difference in her life. And grumpiness!
That's what I tell my boss! He is much easier to deal with since he started using it.

Sandy- well, all of you, YOU'RE DOING SO WELL. You're sticking it out and are getting so healthy!! Hurrah for you!!! :cheer2:
Thank you and you will consider joining us when you return to the states?
