I have done a few half marathons over the years with the walk/run method. I am considering doing a half marathon February 9th which is just over 7 weeks away. I can jog about two miles right now.......but I don't run on a regular basis(mostly lift and zumba) I have only ever went to 3 miles a couple times. I am thinking walk/run a few times a week is a good plan but I don't know what to do for my long runs. If someone could point me to a short plan they have used or give me advice on my long runs, that would be great. Thanks!

I'm using the Galloway half training, but it's definitely longer than 7 weeks, and he recommends jumping into that plan only if you've comfortably run (or run/walked) 3 miles within the last two weeks. I'm a very novice runner myself, and so not one to give you advice on this one, except to say to find someone who does know more about this before you commit. Is there a local running group near you? Or a trainer you could consult? I'm thinking that jumping from 2 miles to 13.1 in 7 weeks could risk injury if not done the right way. :)

I have used a 10 week plan (only had 9 weeks) from a site called marathon rookie dot com. I think it could be easily modified. It has 4 weekly runs..Monday, Wed, Thurs. and Sat. You could just skip the Thur. run. Then after week 5's long run (10 miles) skip week 6 and 7 and pick up at week 8. You can also used the walk/run/walk method. I am NOT an expert, but I did use this after a month long illness and it worked fine for me. I only had nine weeks and only went up to 10 miles. I always did yoga the day after my LR and the two shorter run days I worked on speed.
