Hi everyone,

This is my first post but have been lurking for ages, usually found answers to any questions I had so never got round to posting.

We are currently planning our next trip for May half term and are wondering if we had half board standard vouchers and used them at face value if we could use our AP's to get the 10% discount on the bill.

Has anyone tried this?

Trying to find the cheapest way to eat out.

Thanks :)

we had half board plus in summer and used the AP to get discount on the rest of the bill.

It seems to vary though - we always had the discount taken off after the voucher cost but some people have had the discount taken off first

I think the way to work the vouchers at face value plus AP discount, would be to tell your waiter when you ask for your bill that you have an AP (don't mention your vouchers at this point). That way, when the bill comes, it will have the AP discount taken off the entire bill. Then, you hand over your vouchers for face value, and pay anything left over.

so is it worth getting the HB vouchers when you have a AP, the CM that i spoke to kinda implied i'd be making a bigger saving using the AP discount rather than going for HB vouchers and said i couldnt do both, am i allowed to do both???

You are allowed to do both, when you use your HB vouchers at face value, and have a balance to pay when you pay for your meal.

I have a Dream AP, and it only gets you 10% reduction on your meals bill.
HB vouchers can save you up to around 30% if you use them as full payment at buffets for example (ie HBplus, pay £18 per adult, voucher can be redeemed for full buffet plus soft drink at various places, including Cape Cod and Billy Bobs, where the pay-on-the-day cost of the buffet is around 28 euros (ie about £25 if I'm being kind with the exchange rate at the moment). Plus, HBplus vouchers can be used as full payment for the Lucky Nugget character buffet lunch, and this costs 30euros per adult at-the-door.

HB premium also offers serious value for money - £31 per adult you pay in advance, and HB premium can be used for Inventions and the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show for no extra money (these are usually 51 euro and 59 euro to pay on the day).

And, as I say, if you want to use your vouchers at face value, I'll give you an example of how both work together (HB voucher and AP discount).

Say you eat off the a la carte menu at Cafe Mickey. The bill is 60 euros for 2 adults (just an example). You tell your waiter when you ask for the bill that you have a Dream AP, so he deducts your discount ie now your bill is 54 euros. You pay with 2 adult HBplus vouchers, which have a face value of 25 euros each = 50 euros. So you now only have 4 euros to pay :) .

oh i see, might be more cost effective then, we will have to have a think as to where we will eat on our next stay then... :rolleyes1

Thanks so much for your replies thats how I was hoping it would work.

I think last week, we must have encountered every possible combination of response when trying to use half board (premium) with an AP (dream).

Cafe Mickey - only allowed to used half board OR dream (I wasn't even allowed my free kir)

California Grill - dream discount was taken off before applying the half board

Inventions - dream discount was taken off after applying the half board

Silver Spur - no idea what they would have done here as we didn't have a balance to pay anyway.

As a side note, we also encountered various responses on the free Kir - some restaurants said 1 per person in our group (even though I only had one pass) and others said only 1 (essentially 1 per pass). California Grill on the other hand initially made my sprite free because I had an AP, but then when I asked for the kir said "ok but we'll have to charge you for the sprite". Cafe Mickey gave me no Kir as mentioned above.

So - the bottom line is: it seems to me that you'll get different responses on both of these areas depending on who is serving you
