Half Board plus vs. buying on your own

Ok I was wondering if someone could help me because we have been to DLP many times but never done the Half board plus option as this seems confusing and more expensive. Hubby and I are planning to go to Walt's, the Princess Lunch (maybe not sure I will be a fan of the menu as I really only like chicken not red meat but would like to see the princesses) Inventions and Planet Hollywood.

We are staying 2 nights so have 3 days in the parks to do this. I read you have to use 2 vouchers for the Princees Lunch. Is that also true for Walt's and Inventions since they are priced more? I figure each meal at the 3 park places will cost us 50 euro each for a total of 300 Euros between the 2 of us. (over $500 US dollars) We could add the half board plus option to our stay at DLH for an additional $400 US. If we get 3 vouchers- 1 for each day but those places take 2 vouchers, we would still have to pay for 1 and a half meals each???? So confused- Can anyone please explain this to me?

Thanks:confused:

:confused3 I'm confused with $ and € but you seem to be saying that it is $500 doing it yourself or $400 with the halfboard option.
Is this taking all the meals and those that require 2 vouchers ?

To me, half board seems like a great savings and convenience. You are buying them now against what is probably a better exchange of dollars to euros wihout fear that the American dollar will decline even further in value when your trip arrives.

The only place that makes you use 2 vouchers is the Princess lunch. Choosing this option is the least budget friendly especially since you may not like the food. Perhaps you could content yourself to enjoy one of the other character meals instead and just visit the princess in the park?

If not, you may be better off paying out of pocket for this meal and still using your vouchers as a savings for other meals. (assuming you would eat both lunch & dinner daily)

If you eat at Walt's or Inventions it is a very limited menu (think 1 maybe 2 options) that are "included" in your price. If you are content with that, no extra cost. If you want the option to have other things on the menu, you pay the upcharge of what that would cost. So, if the included item is chicken and you want a burger, the upcharge would be minimal $1-$5 if you want steak, may expect a $10-$20 upcharge for example.

The vouchers include your appetizer, entree, dessert, and beverage. If you are the type that would normally not eat either an appetizer or dessert, it may or may not end up reflecting a savings to you to buy a voucher that gets its value from assuming that you do.

Inventions is a buffet isnt it? So you will have the same choice as everyone else. Im wondering if that may use 2 vouchers tho as its more expensive than other buffets

I get confused with $ and Euro myself. I was quoted $400 (US) for us to add the half board plus onto our package. I figured the 3 places in the park I would like to eat would cost us 300 Euro which would be $483 (US) right now.

So then I would not need to use 2 vouchers for Walt's and Inventions though the both run about the same cost as the princess one?

I've already figured the food is going to be an issue for me depending what's on the menu- I am thinking about asking for a veg. plate as it sounds like it would be a pasta dish. I really am intereseted in seeing the princesses though and hope they still do the dance near the fireplace. We haven't been fortuneate enough to see the princesses in the park when we have been there so I can't count on that.

That is my concern as half a chicken and a bottle of water is enough for me at Chalet Du Marrionette- that I would be wasting money on food I wouldn't be able to eat.

Thanks for the help. I'm still not sure what we'll do because I know the dollar will drop more :sad2:
