Hakuna Matata - Gobbling up the pavement and thankful we can!

Elizabeth- Happy belated birthday!!

Connie- Make sure to keep taking the P90X slow, at the clinic we have seen an increase in patients with injuries due to pushing them too hard with P90X (mainly men). I know what you mean about sleeping days! I get one every now and then too!

Beth- What a fun day! Loved the report and the pictures on FB! Good luck on getting in next year!

AFM- I forgot to include a while ago the shin exercises I have been doing. I sit on the floor and pull against a resistance band with my foot. I make sure to bring my foot back to "neutral" slowly as it works on the eccentric contraction of the muscle (the part that helps to lower your foot/toes back to the ground while running). If anyone would like a better description I can probably get a picture of it off the exercise program at work

Margie and I met up for a walk this morning! It went really well! My shins got a little "tight" but nothing that stopped me or caused pain!
We went 30 minutes with a 5 minute cool down.
Did 2.2 miles!
Average pace 15.14
Best pace 10:43

Only 61 days left until the WDW 1/2!!! WHO IS EXCITED!!!???!!!

Nice weekend at Gull Lake ministries with Carrie for
scrap booking and down time. Some of those women
are so intense the scrap all night! Me it was down time,
lots of scrapping, rest, and did the Zip line 3 times.
Loved the zip line!
Home alone last night.
Wonderful brisk walk with Nikki this morning.
Beautiful sunrise, scenic trail – seen at least 5 (?) deer.

Good Morning Team!

Vicky – Walking backwards on treadmill is one of the exercises given to me after my knee surgery – I should probably do it more! Have fun with the camera lesson!

Sue – Hope you enjoyed Wicked!

Connie – A good sleep is sometimes necessary!

Elizabeth – Happy Belated Birthday! Sorry I missed it! Hope you had a great day!

Nikki – Wicked is great – if you get the chance, you should go see it. If you have read the book, it is a bit different – very much condensed – but still an exceptional show!

Dave – Our weather has been the opposite – 70 plus degrees all weekend! Hard to believe 70 degrees in November! It will get cold here tomorrow, but today still should be nearly 60 degrees!

Margie – Christmas at WDW is beautiful – my favorite time to visit and this year we are going for my birthday the first week of Dec! Sounds like you had a good weekend!

Beth – Great report – sounds like you had a great weekend volunteering!

Mary – Sounds like good trips to WDW – we are headed there later this week for Food and Wine’s last weekend.

Gerry - Hope you had a good race!

AFM – Good weekend, beautiful weather, 12 mile bike ride on Friday, 18 mile bike ride on Saturday, and as Scott said, we started on Sunday but had to cut it short due to bike issues. If we had not cut is short due to bike issues, we would have been turning around in the middle anyway as the wind suddenly picked up – if we had still been out on the bike path, it would have been a quick trip home with 40 mph tail wind! I should be doing a long walk today (10 miles) but since my “to do” list is so long, I will be lucky to fit in 3 or 4 miles – so I will not have a long walk in before next half marathon. After today, we are expecting winter weather – cold and snow Tues and Wed. We just made reservation in Denver Wed night so we would not have to drive down Thurs morning at “0 dark 30” on bad roads – would rather drive bad roads in daylight.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

Happy Monday everyone! I had to drive downtown today. Normally it takes me about 25-30 minutes from my house. I even left around 8AM which is about 20 minutes earlier than I normally need. I didn't get downtown and into work until after 9AM. There was a ton of traffic everywhere. Definitely not a relaxed morning...

Margie - Yes, the knee seems to be doing better. I'm still going in for one more treatment tonight so hopefully all will be well after that. The scrapbooking retreat sounded like a lot of fun, same with the zip lining! I've always wanted to try that. Maybe some of those women scrapped all night because they only had access to certain tools that weekend. Or maybe they were just so into it, they didn't notice time flying by :)

Nikki - With the shin exercise, are you sitting on the floor and using the resistance band to gently pull your foot towards you? I think I might give that a try tonight. For some reason, I was hitting the pavement really hard this morning during my run.

Scott - Good luck with your move today! Sorry to hear that you had to cut the bike ride short.

Elizabeth - Happy belated birthday!

Beth - You should be able to get to $3K in sponsorship if you're able to get money from corporations. We recently did a bike ride fundraiser at work and someone talked to a bunch of contractors and vendors that we normally deal with and she was able to get amounts ranging from $250 to $500. If you get a few of those, you're well on your way to $3K :) Loved reading and looking at your race pics!

Gerry - How was your 5K?

Connie - The knee is doing pretty good but I haven't tested out anything on a LR yet. But for short distances it's holding up pretty good. Sounds like you needed your sleep. I was a little bit grouchy this weekend because I didn't get an afternoon nap either Saturday or Sunday. But the sleep that I did get was really nice - really restful. Can't wait to see your results from PX90. You are going to be one buff lady!

Mary - I think you get a glass of wine or something with each course. I talked to the valet after our dinner last year and he said most people come out hammered because they don't realize how much alcohol you're getting with the pairing. How was Party for the Senses?

Lynn - I think I'm going to start warming up before my training sessions by walking backwards. It feels a little bit weird but everyone says it's a really good exercise.

AFM - Did a bit of running this weekend, a yoga class and met my friend Ed for an SLR tutorial. I think I really want one now. He explained things really nicely and gave me a few new ideas for composing shots that I hadn't thought of so I was really happy. So I think I might put a camera on the Christmas list!

I panicked a bit this weekend and had this awful thought that I wasn't going to be able to do the full in January. I even thought about dropping down to the half. I think I was a little bummed out with not being able to run and just a little bit of life in general. But I did talk to the WISHer I'm going to run with in January and she reminded me there's still 8 weeks to go and that I'd already run two 30K races this year. So I felt better after that :)

Anyway, I've got training and a treatment tonight and then I think I might just veg out and catch up on TV shows.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Took my run back inside yesterday. After being out in the cold all day Sunday, I was not excited about going back into the bluster for 55 minutes. I will say one good thing about the gym is it makes it very easy to keep my pace consistent during the run intervals - and to keep it up during walking. So while I know it's not ideal to train indoors, I do think it's worth it for me anyway to go inside once in a while just to check on pace maintenance.

Had to get up early to do my x-t this morning. It's open school, which means I'm here for oh, about 12 hours. Joy joy. Did Level 1 of the 30 Day Shred. It was good to revisit that and be able to see how far I've come from that very first time when I wanted to die before I was even finished with it. I'm contemplating going through all 30 days of it again...but probably not in a row, especially with holidays coming up.

Hope everyone has a great day!!!

~beth

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - I used to have SLR's and I downsized to a point and shoot - there is so much equipment to carry around with a SLR. I now have an Olympus that has a 10x optical zoom, and settings I can change if I want to. The only thing I liked about the SLR's was the ability to manually focus - I have issues with the automatic focus on point and shoot cameras. You will be fine in January, you will have lots of support - just take care of the knee!

Margie - Congratulations on a day of accomplishments!

Beth - hope you survive your 12 hours at school!

AFM - Another beautiful day yesterday, I did get out for short walk with the dogs and got the trees watered, I did 50 minutes of Pilates. Today it is 42 degrees right now, and that is the high for the day - temps will be steadily going down all day. Snow in the forecast. Guess I need to get out as early as possible for the dog walk.

Pixie dust to all who are in need.

Have a great day team!

Good Morning Team!

Beth, Glad to hear you had a great time volunteering.

Scott, Hope the office move is going well. Moving to a new location or just relocating within the same space?

Wicked was wicked. Beautiful costumes, loved the songs & great story.
It was the train ride to & from the city with the many Buffalo Bill fans. Just not an enjoyable ride.

Just got called to a meeting...........Make it a great day everyone.......Sue

Beth, I enjoyed the race report; thanks for posting it.

Thanks to those of you who wrote me belated birthday wishes; My DH and DDs celebrate their birthdays for an entire week so you helped me keep my own celebration going!

Wow, it was cold this morning. I'm in need of some thicker running socks. I wear Champion Duo-Dry ordinarily (cheap and comfy) but my toes are freezing in the mornings. Any suggestions for inexpensive, thicker running socks?

Elizabeth

Hi team! Another sunny day here in Toronto! The mornings are chilly but the afternoons seem to warm up nicely!

Lynn - Hope you don't get too much snow! That's the only thing about the SLR I don't like - they're bulky and don't travel well. And then there's all the gear - tripod, extra lenses... But I like having control over the type of picture I'm taking. Thanks for the words of encouragement for January! The knee has been feeling better lately so I'm feeling better about that.

Sue - Sounds like it was a rowdy train ride :) Have you been watching the Canadian dollar today. It went higher than par several times but just barely.

Beth - Hope your day flies by quickly! 12 hours sounds like a really long day.

Margie - Holy busy day! You got a lot of stuff done! WTG! And thank-you too for the encouraging words! The treatment went well last night. My chiro showed me a couple of exercises that she wanted me doing as part of my warm up routine before training. They were single leg presses on the machine and they're pretty easy. She also said that if I was ever interested in acupuncture, she could bring in special needles which are finer than the ones used at the clinic. I'm still a needle-phob though

Elizabeth - I wear SmartWool socks. I change to 3/4 length from ankle or invisible in the summer. Another thing you could do is to double up your socks if it's really cold. If the wind is a problem, try putting duct tape on the front of your shoe. It does help with the wind and will keep your feet a little warmer.

AFM - I did another Graston treatment last night so no running until Thursday. I might try to do some yoga DVDs in the meantime but I know I have to stay later on Wednesday so that might not happen unless I get it done first thing in the morning.

I started going to sleep earlier so that I can actually get in 8 hours of sleep a night but I seem to find myself waking up every night between 3-4AM. This will work out well for January but I can't seem to figure out why I'm waking up at that time.

Then I had this bizarre problem with the alarms on my iPhone. The phone itself adjusted for daylight savings and so the time on the phone would say 6:00 AM. Even though the alarm was set for 6:00 AM, it wouldn't go off until 7:00 AM. How weird is that? Good thing I wake up at 3AM

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

DISboards WISH racing team members....

If you are interested in the order for WISH Racing Team Headsweats hats and or visors please go to the following thread to place your order.
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2537249
I have to have a minimum amount of orders to place an order, so this is usually only done ONCE a year.
If you want a WISH Racing Team hat/visor for the up coming year's races, now is the time to get one.
I need the minimum order placed by November 20th to get everyone's hats/visors to them by WDW January Marathon weekend.

Thanks,
Tracy

Hi Team!

Things never seem to slow down as of late...

Beth~ I'm glad that you had such a great time at the NYC marathon. I had a similar experience at the Chicago marathon. It was a great time that I would do again!

Elizabeth~ It's belated, but welcome to the over 40 club!

AFM~ the weater has been great here the last few days! Around 70 and slight breezes. Got out for a short 5K today. Pace was 9:13.

My Mom is doing okay, but not great. She has to have multiple injections into her eyes. Her vision has only impoved a little. She is done driving and can't really read the newspaper yet, so it's been a big change.

The Hot Chocolate 15K was a very cold, but good time overall. The course was very much the same as the Soldier Field 10 miler that I ran in May. I got into the city around 5am and wandered around downtown for a short while. The windchill was 20 degrees, with a airtemp of 34 before the sun came up. I found a Caribou Coffee and hung out for awhile, several other racers joined me. The races had fifteen thousand in each (5K and 15k). I finished in 1:29:47 with a pace of 9:38. I did okay considering I haven't been training much. I struggled, but kept going.
At the finish area they had hot chocolate, a fondue station with melted chocolate and stuff to dip, and we each got a mini Ghiardelli square. After the race I stopped by to see the Cloud Gate sculpture (also know as the BEAN because of it shape). It was the first time I saw it and its pretty cool.
If I do this race next year, we will stay downtown and make a night of it. All the racers got a nice insulated jacket instead of a shirt. I also bought a hoodie that says "Will run for chocolate!" Alas, no bling.

Tomorrow, more leaf pick up and cleaning out the gutters. Fun stuff...

Off to bed for me, have to work tonight! Mike:cool2:

Thanks!

I'll look at the SmartWool socks; thanks also for the suggestions about doubling up and the tape.:thumbsup2

I have been going to bed early too and waking up at 3:30. It's driving me crazy so I've been trying to change it. However, I never thought that it might actually help me get up for the Princess in February. Maybe I'll keep getting up early, after all!

Margie- Looked at the Jingle Bell 5K and YOU WERE RIGHT! I should have just
listened to you! I"m still up for it if you are!

Beth- Way to mix up the routine! I don't blame you for not wanting to be outside again!

Lynn- Great job on the Pilates! It has always been something I've wanted to try but just haven't gotten around to!

Sue- Never know HOW those sports fans will act!! Glad Wicked was great! I'm going to look into getting some student rate tickets!

Elizabeth- I'm with you on the thicker socks! I'm going to look for new Shoes on Sat so I'll ask the running store about socks too!

Vicky- Crazy that your Iphone adjusted your alarms! I haven't had that problem, do you have the most recent software update? Or did it "correct" itself after the first day?

Mike- Great race report!! I might have to try that race next year! I'll do just about anything for chocolate! At least with running I'd feel better about eating it! How cool to get a jacket instead of a shirt!! With the jacket I could see not getting bling! How much was the race fee?

AFM- Today was a rest day! Did a lot of driving! Had my first Clinical experience at Mary Freebed Rehabilitation Hospital. It was amazing! I got to work with inpatients with who had suffered stroke, spinal cord or brain injuries! I also got to work with some Pediatrics (15 year olds) I LOVED that! Hopefully my other clinical will be with kids more so I can tell if that is a specialty I'd like to explore!

I got my Brooks NightLife Running jacket today!!!! So excited! It is so thin but feels so warm! Can't wait to try it out later this week! Keep moving everyone!!!

Beth-WTG getting your workout done inside or out!
2009 Detroit Marathon 3-men died…it happens
I know it is not an excuse but runners/walkers are often not even aware of
anything or anyone but themselves and the need for water.
Hope your long day yesterday went well.
I have a 13-hour plus for Thursday- 7:20am – 8:30pm, as the Mom has an
after work meeting.

Connie- WTG with your P90X workouts and getting back on track
with your walking!

Elizabeth-hope you find the solution to keep your toes toasty!
I do wear the Smart Wool socks when it gets colder. Also found some
of those old fashioned leg warmers last year.

Lynn-WTG with 50 minutes of Pilate’s!
Hope you did not get a lot of snow yesterday.
Leaving for Denver tonight – are you guys doing a race this weekend?

Mike-:thanks: for the Race Report!
The insulated jacket sounds way nice too.
Hope the injection help improve your Mom’s eyesight.
It is a difficult eye disease. I have a brother-in-law in his early 80’s
who has Macular Degeneration. I do not think he had the injections.

Nikki-Congratulation on your new Brooks NightLife Jacket-I love mine.
Sounds like you had an interesting day.
What is the time/distance of your scheduled long walk Saturday?
We can always do a 5K on our own…it does not have to be a race.
Do not think the Jingle Bell 5K is chip timed.
I have a ticked to Wicked – December 1st (not sure on date), as I got it
back on the day they were released for sale.

Scott-Sorry you had to cut the bike ride short!
And do hope the office move is going smoothly.

Sue-Bummer on the train ride! I am looking forward to
seeing Wicked.

Vicky-maybe with the added warm up exercise you will not have the problems with your knee.
Me too on the sleep issues!
The time changes really mess with our body clocks.

AFM:Normal-4 boys today.
How can it be so hard to be creative and find things that all of them like to eat!
I think they would eat Koegle's hot dogs, pasta & cheese, and peas everyday.

Morning team! :)

Happy birthday Mary!

Good luck this weekend to Mike, Liz, Elizabeth and Larry!

Nikki ~ Go for the Jingle Jog! Anything with Jingle in the title isn't likely to frown on anyone trying. :P Your jacket sounds great! I got a vest recently but haven't tried it out. I discovered with my headband that I've got a very high inner thermostat - just a headband was overheating me and I had to tuck it into a broken water fountain for the rest of my run. So I'm not sure how cold it will have to be for me to wear a vest. LOL.

Elizabeth ~ Good luck on your quest for warmth!

Mike ~ The race sounds cool. I miss Chicago!! That sculpture is so cool - I love seeing the sky and the city reflected in it from different angles!

Margie ~ Good luck on the food quest!!!

Lynn ~ How's the snow?

Sue ~ If you ever need tips on Broadway shows to see (and avoid) let me know! I've pretty much seen them all. LOL.

AFM ~ I survived Open School. I only had 2 parents show up - which isn't surprising. Most of our kids are in single-parent families where the mom (in almost every case) is working two or three jobs, PLUS they have to come up separately for the IEP conference, and they can't always get off work twice. I had one surprising no-show, so we'll see what the communication book says this morning.

I'm planning to go to the fun run this evening with runners club. Once I hear what they're doing (they are planning a "light and easy" thing since many of them ran the marathon on Sunday...not sure what their idea of "light and easy" is - ha!) I'll decide if I'm going to do my second short run for the week tonight or wait until tomorrow. Tonight is a rare Wednesday when I actually *can* do my run at fun run since I've got a day off from school tomorrow. My scheduled (for tomorrow) run is 45 minutes of 3:2 run:walk intervals plus the 5 minute each warm-up and cool-down...with the walk to the park, I'd only have the 5 minute cool-down, but that's still 50 minutes. And when it's dark we wait for everyone, so if they're only planning to do 30 minutes or so, I'll probably just congratulate them all and head home because I don't want to make them stand around for 20 minutes waiting on me. So we'll see.

OK...time to get dressed for school. Not like I just left there or anything. :confused3

Have a magical day!

~beth

Good Morning Team!

My goal is to finish my post before getting called to a meeting!

Happy Birthday Mary!

Mike, Cont'd pd for your mom.

Beth, I would so love to visit your great city but as usual 2 things are stopping me 1. lack of $ & 2. lack of vacation time. I would so love to see Mary Poppins but it's just not going to happen.

Margie, I just love your little "today" facts you post. Had to google Sir John Thompson. He was only PM for 2 yrs. I had never heard of him before. How sad is that!
Have a great day with your boys.

Nikki, Your clinical placement sounded very interesting. Glad you liked it.

AFM, End of day meeting ran late & I missed my run. :headache:
Back at it tonight for the mid-week long run.

Have a great day everyone............Sue

Good Morning team! Just in from my morning Run and checking in before work! Got a pot roast in the crock pot and finishing up taco meat for tomorrow!

MARY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! Make sure to celebrate you!!

Margie- Saturday I am supposed to do 60 minutes or 4 miles...whichever comes first!

I would still LOVE to do the Jingle Bell on Sunday if you are up for it! You can register online through their site if you'd like. When is your Wicked ticket? I could try to go the same night....maybe even try to sit by ya!

Beth Have fun at the FUN RUN lol I crack myself up sometimes.... (pardon my humor).

Sue- I HATE it when meetings run late! It messes everything up! I had tons of fun at my clinical yesterday and get to go to a new place tomorrow! Can't wait to see what it brings!

AFM- I did a "Run" this morning. I was supposed to do 30 minutes but am still not able to run all of that! I just ran AS MUCH as I could and I'm fine with that! LOVED the new jacket! It is so thing yet SO WARM!!! I think it was 33 or so when I went out this morning and I felt find with just my long sleeve and the jacket!

I ended up doing 2 miles with some hill workout! It took me 30 minutes so that means I averaged 15mm which is PERFECT for me! I can't believe I'm making 2 dinners this morning either! I don't know what got into me but I"m planning ahead....or maybe it is because DH (Ryan) is slated to do dishes today so I know I won't have to do them...... Evil I know but it works for me!

Take care everyone! See ya real soon!
