Hey Team!

Welcome to September! We are entering into another race season! I think I love the fall racing best! You guys can keep that January racing, I will do mine in the spring and fall. I don't have any races scheduled for fall, but who knows, that could change! Here's to September!

Team Bios

Steffwalks, aka Connie - Captain. I am 53 years old, married with Two children and 5 Grandchildren living in the panhandle of Texas. First race at 49 years and 9 months and it was a trail race, just about killed me!! I am working on weight loss and P90X. I prefer the half marathon as a walker. My most recent hobby, mule rider!

Funwalker, aka Margie - Official Record Keeper of HK. walker. widow; I live in Portage MI
Did my 1st race when I turned 60, Full Marathon at the 2005 Columbus Marathon. I prefer Half Marathons for training and distance.

Windwalker, aka Dave and/or Panda - I'm 58 and live in a small town in Kentucky. I don't run I walk, race walk actually and I'm currently training for another shot at the National Senior Olympics. I have the state trials in Sept and if I place there I get a slot on the Ky team that will go to Houston next year for the nationals. I'm single.

flipflopmom, aka Taryn - I will be 35 on Sept. 5. I am a Kindergarten Teacher, working on my master's degree in my "spare"time. Married for 12 years, have 2 girls. Oldest is 10, and a competitive gymnast. Her gym is 45 minutes away,so I spend a lot of time on the road. Youngest is 3, and a tons of fun! I haven't run a race yet, but looking for a 5K.

Motomiker, aka Mike - I have lived in and around Lake in the Hills Illinois and have worked in the grocery business for almost 20 years. married in 2008 to my wife (Liz). One son (Rober). Working on baby number two. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in the fall of 2009 and had surgery. I am still cancer free! My other interests are varied: Disney nut, Disney pins collector, love movies (mostly Sci-fi), scrapbooking, travel, a New England Patriots fan. and 5ks . I did my first adventure race recently, and am planning some more.

LynnG, aka Lynn - (of Lynn and Scott), 59 years old, retired We are both Disneyholics – we have been members of DVC since it started. I am a walker, I used to try to run, but since knee surgery last August which I am still trying to recover from, I only walk now. I have done several half marathons, mostly Disney ones. I have 2 malamutes that are my walking companions at home.

Villians_Rock, aka Eva - I am 31 years old, married to Jordan (proud WISH supporter) and have just recently had our first baby, Gage. We currently live near Cleveland, OH. I'm a full time staffing coordinator for Continental Airlines and my hubby sells Harley Davidsons. I ran my first race in 2007 and have since ran 5Ks, 10Ks, one half marathon and completed the Disney Full Marathon in 2009. Before the baby, I was most comfortable running and training at a half marathon distance.

MaryJ aka Mary I am 53 years old, and live in a small town in Southwestern Indiana. I will be married to DH (Ken) for 34 years in July. We have 3 daughters and 2 granddaughters. I walk/run my races. I did my first big race (WDW Half) when I was 52. Before that I had done only a few 5K's, mostly walking.

GirltheGecko aka Hope. I grew up in the Pittsburgh area. When I was a teenager, I was heavily into martial arts, unfortunately due to school and time, I had to quit. I met Nick, moved to NH, and I gained some weight. I watched my mother struggle with obesity all her life, so Nick's family and I decided to work at trying for a half marathon at WDW.

es45 aka Elizabeth: I'm 41 and married with 2 children, DD9 and DD6. I'll run my first 5k in July and walking with my best friend in the 2011 Princess Half. If I'm ready, I plan to run my first half marathon in late October.

piglet24, aka Regina I grew up in Idaho and married my “birthday buddy”, Kyle, in 2006. There has been a great deal of stress in my life recently that I do not have the ability to change right now, so I decided to try running to help manage the stress and give myself goals to work toward and focus on. Right now I’m working toward my first half marathon in October (Wine and Dine).

Pudge The Fish, aka Emily My DH and I will be doing the DL half in Sept. This will be our first half marathon. I still consider myself new to running, though I've done 2 5k (including the 2009 DL 5k) and one 10k. Thanks!

Hi Everybody!

Margie~ Could you make some changes for me and Liz? Liz's birthday is September 10th, our second wedding anniversary is the 20th, and we are both doing the Lake in the Hills Sunset 5K this Friday at 7:30 pm. Also, I'm down to 210 pounds from 248. And Wine and Dine will be my first half marathon, not the Donald in January. I'm a pest aren't I?
I say go for the new furnace while they are on sale. I'm proactive on home maintainace, as much as I can afford to be.

Sounds like we have quite a few house hunters! I'm with Dave and Scott, I must have room for all my "stuff" and room for new "stuff". Most of it is Disney related somehow!

AFM~ August totaled 80.3 miles for me with 10 today (the 31st) with a pace of 10:02 a mile. This is right around where I want to be at the Wine and Dine! 32 Days to go!

- Mike :cool2:

One more thing! Regina, her DH and myself have a meeting planned at the Kona Cafe on Sunday morning at 10:20 am after the Wine and Dine Half. Is there anyone else attending that would like to meet up with us for some Tonga toast? - Mike :cool2:

Me!!! I'm pretty small and can fit inside someone's suitcase :cutie: Alternatively, I also would be pleased to accept a FedEx package filled with Tonga Toast! Just kidding!

Take lots of pictures at your meet! :)

Tayrn- Big WTG on your 50#'s gone!!:worship: That takes a ton of hard
work and dedication.

Lynn & Scott and Emily- Good luck on your upcoming half marathons!!

AFM- I'm still very new to this good and learning what everyone is up to. Mike says a ton of wonderful things about you guys. i just started a new training program. I combined a half marathon run program with a beginer level olympic tri program. It was actually pretty easy to merge the two. Started yesterday so i'll let you know how it goes.

September is my favorite month so i'm sure good things are coming for everyone:banana:

Hey Team!

I know I’ve been MIA for about a week…typically when that happens it’s because I’m not training like I should be…:rolleyes1 Anyway, this will be long because I’m catching up on the 5 pages or so I missed!

Emily- Thanks for the feedback on the cruise and motion sickness. That makes me feel better about considering one! The Redbull Flugtag seems like a pretty neat event. Great job finishing your 8 mile run last week! I’m sure you and DH will do great in your half! Good luck!!!!

Elizabeth- Those are very good reasons for switching running plans. Is Galloway working better for you still? I’m also ready for summer to end. A 5K with your daughters is a great way to spend girl time!

Kim- Well if you get that car sick and can still cruise I should be good to go too because I get car sick very easily as well. I’m glad you’re at moving forward with your training even if it’s taking a little longer to get there! That’s great news on your DMIL!!! I’m glad she’s ok.

Vicky- What’s a tensor brace? Is it easy to find? Is it expensive? Great job on the one legged pushups! I know I couldn’t do that! What kind of ladder work are you doing? I’m sure the perfect condo for you will come along at just the right time.

Lynn- How’d the office party Scott hosted go? Good luck in the DL half and 5K!!!!

Liz- Welcome!!! I’m so sorry I’m so late in welcoming you, but am very glad you’re able to join our team!!! It’s great your tri went so well and you had such a perfect day. That’s fantastic! Way to go on beating your goal too! September is one of my favorite months too! Do you have any future races picked out?

Mike- Way to go on your 12 mile run and awesome pace as well!! Thanks for inviting everyone to our breakfast! Hopefully some other peeps would like to joins us.

Mary- Glad you had a good time in Houston.

Dave- I’m glad all is well with you.

Margie- I had my coaches training on Sat 8/28 and we have a coaches meeting on 9/7. Then my first day coaching the girls is 9/13. Yay, you’re feeling better!!! That’s great news!!!! I’m sure Nikki has missed her walking buddy.

Scott- I hope this next week goes better for you. Good luck in DL half!!!!

Connie- Good luck Elk Hunting! Do you guys make jerky?

Sue- Chocolate milk at mile 11 with 2 more to go doesn’t sound like it would sit too well in your stomach.

AFM, I attended the coaches training for the volunteer program I posted about a couple weeks ago on Saturday. So now I am CPR certified again (it’s been several years since my last certification) and officially a coach! We have a coaches meeting on 9/7 and then I start at my assigned school on 9/13. I’m looking forward to it! My friend who’s been helping me with my 5k event for work is big into volunteering at races too so I think I’m going to help him with some events as well too. As for running, I did not run at all last week. My ankle has been feeling tender and I just have no motivation. But today, I went out and ran 4 miles in about 45 minutes. I think that’s about it for me. Hope everyone is well!

Oh and as a side note, has anyone ever done the pick a pearl in DTD or Epcot? What are your thoughts on it?

Hey Team!

Oh and as a side note, has anyone ever done the pick a pearl in DTD or Epcot? What are your thoughts on it?

I did! I did it at Epcot. We had twins that we had set into earrings that are MIA. It's fun with all the stuff they do and the chance you take. I was after a young boy who I had fun chatting with about the experience.

I've been a bit out of touch with everyone due to my Dad getting transferred to his halfway house. Sounds like it was successful. Haven't heard anything but Dad said no news is good news. Now to get through the first 30 days with limited contact. I've been a bundle of nervous energy trying to get through it and so worried about things going wrong.

Hey everyone!!!! Found the new thread before I found the old one so I am not caught up.

Margie: I have one change no biggie however, I am doing the 1.2 in January.

Well I might just be out of my mind but wiht 2 and hopefully a 3rd friend we have all committed to doing a sprint tri in May of 2011. Yup you read it here first. I am actually really excited about it. Only think that has me worried is more the logistics of getting my bike down there but will find a way to make it happen.

Today is not going to be a good day I think, woke up totally convinced it was Thursday:confused3 Went to do banking and wondering why DH's paycheque isn't there well he doesn't get paid till tomorrow. So glad it is the long weekend.

Have fun all today and stay cool.

Those on the eastern seaboard, stay safe and dry. Hope Earl starts to turn back out to sea really soon.

Good morning guys.

I'll post more when we are done but Sally and I are picking a nest today. Once the paper chase is over we will have a home and can become Mr and Mrs Panda.

Have a magical day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Good morning everyone!

Dave~ Congrats all around! Are we (the team) going to be invited to the ceremony? Bachelor party? I assume that you will be wearing a furry black and white tuxedo...

Regina~ Keep up keeping up with the training! 31 days to go for the W&D ! I've watched the pick a pearl at EPCOT and it looks like alot of fun. Also, if the lady who form wax is outside doing her thing, check her out, it's really cool to watch. She makes dragons, birds, and other fun stuff on a stick from the wax.

Vicky~ You can bunk with me, remember I'm going solo for this trip. We'll just have to put a strip of tape down the middle of the room "DO NOT CROSS"

Margie~ Glad that you are feeling better!

AFM~ Cloudy and rainy here today and tomorrow. It's supposed to be clear and in the 60's for our race on Friday. I'm going to freeze after all this hot weather!
My cancer doc took me off the blood thinners that I was on for the clots in my left leg. I am now on 81mg of asprin each day. He said if the leg swells or hurts get in to see him immediately. Um, yeah, it was like that when I left his office. :confused3 Not as bad as it was at the beginning, but annoying!
I signed up for a 5K on the 11th called the Irish Jig Jog which is part of an Irish Festival at a local Catholic Church. I think I'll have a Guiness when I'm done running!

- Mike :cool2:

Team Hakuna Matata Weekend Racers

:cheer2::cheer2:We will be here Cheering for you guys! :cheer2::cheer2:

Friday 3rd:
Mike & Liz - Lake in the Hills Sunset / 5K

Sunday 5th:
Lynn & Scott - DL Half Marathon / Half Marathon
Emily - DL Half Marathon / Half Marathon

Good morning, guys!

Wow! What a lot of posts already!

Kim - Is that tri a mini one? Or an Ironman?

Regina - They have a pick-a-pearl on the Boardwalk too. I think that the Boardwalk people are much more generous than the Epcot folks. I have picked them in "Japan" and the Boardwalk. I got the biggest prettiest pearls near the Boardwalk. If you go out the Epcot gate it is near the beached ship! If you choose a piece of jewelry and would like a matching piece, they will try and find a matching pearl for the second piece. The pearls at Epcont were only 4 and 6 cm, but the smallest one at the boardwalk was a 7.5 cm. -- We don't make much jerky out of the Elk meat. But we do out the whitetail deer we get. It's funny to think about, but the closer you live to the land the more likely you are to eat healthier, ie, Organic, hormone free, anti-biotic free, etc. -- Just because you aren't training like you would like, doesn't mean you can't come by. We like to hear from you, anyway. And who knows, you might find a bit of motivation!

Good luck racers!!!!

Margie - You are the best, keeping up with the events in everyone's lives!!

Hope - glad to hear things are going well for you dad.

AFM - I got my clothing packed. I have things from shorts and tank tops to long underwear and coats! I even packed my fur lined bomber hat. But there is still food shopping and packing , gathering up cookware, and all that other fun and lovely stuff. I guess I better get outta here and get it done.

See ya - Connie

Good Morning Team!

Connie – I know at the WDW half, I was begging for that bus, but it was no where to be found – they made me finish on my own, even at a 17m/m pace! Glad to hear that your garden is nearly done – ours (fruit trees) have not really started yet, we should have lots of plums (this year jam I think) and a good bunch of crab apples (crab apple butter) and quite a few grapes (jelly) that I expect will all be ready to harvest soon after we get back from DL. Where in the Rockies are you heading to?

Liz – good luck with your new training program!

Regina – welcome back! Cocktail party did not happen – the class he was teaching ended early, and everyone went home early instead of partying.

Dave – good luck with your house choice (or have you already made the choice?). Be sure to provide details once you put in an offer!

Hope – good to hear from you again! Hope everything works out with your Dad.

Kim – where is the tri you are doing?

Mike and Liz – good luck on your race this weekend.

Emily – good luck to you if we do not manage to see you!

AFM – Scott and I did a 5 mile bike ride last night when he got home, the dogs and I did 3 miles this morning – not a good walk, my knee was not happy this morning! We are headed out tomorrow morning, I don’t know when I will get back on here. Scott manages to post on vacations, I seem to always be too busy doing other stuff.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

OMG Connie:scared1: not even close to a ironman. It is one of the sprint ones.

Lynn in Disney of course;):thumbsup2: Will this be your first 1/2 since the surgery?

I am so jealous of all you DL'ers!!!!
