Hakuna Matada - Fit, Fun and Fabulous in February

Have any of you eaten the spaghetti at Wolfgang Puck Express? It looks huge and so I thought it might be a good meal for my friend and I to split the night before the race. I'm not a fan of carb loading on pasta the night before but she is. I thought it might be a good for me to eat a little, along with a salad, and let her have the rest. Now the creme brulee might be a different story....

Good Morning Team!

Scott stayed home long enough for us to have breakfast together today, blueberry pancakes (we have a freezer full of blueberries from Scott's folks, need to use them before we replenish the supply this summer). The only weekend plans so far are to help a friend tear apart his kitchen for remodel project. Saturday is not supposed to be too bad, snow predicted for Sunday.

I was a wimp yesterday and did not brave the wind for a dog walk, but I did spend an hour on the spin bike. Need to do some weights today.

Pixie Dust for all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

Hi everyone! Happy Friday!

Elizabeth - I haven't had that dish at WPE but have eaten a few others and the portions are quite big. I'd say they should be good enough for sharing. If you're worried it's not enough, you can always get a salad and a dessert. I prefer the WPE in Disney's Marketplace. The selection at the location on the West Side isn't as extensive.

Sue - How was your run? It was really mild outside last night... nothing compared to today! Too bad it's going to cool back down for the long weekend.

Lynn - You and Scott have the tastiest breakfasts and meals! I still use the babotie recipe you posted a couple of years ago. It's so much better than the babotie at Boma. My joke is that they get it frozen from Kraft  Good job on the spin bike!

AFM - I did a 30 minute workout last night and then 35 minutes on the spin bike. Went home had dinner and then promptly chowed down on A LOT of candy. I don't know what's wrong with me. Anyway, it wasn't as much as I would have eaten as when I was heavy but it was enough to upset my stomach :( I guess the good thing is that it's quashed my sugar craving for a bit.

On an exercise related note, my chiro says that I might be able to start running again in about a week or so. I guess that puts us into March! Where did February go? I'm excited about that!

I'm also giving the Hundred Pushups challenge a try. I did the initial exhaustion test and made it to 40. I'm not sure how good my form was for pushups 35-40 but if I had wanted to push to the next level, I needed 50 so I suppose it doesn't matter. The site suggested I move to week 3 which seemed about right. The first day was pretty easy but then I went to the gym and accidentally skipped ahead to day 3. Couldn't figure out why it was so much harder until I looked closely at my phone and noticed I was doing the work for day 3. D'oh!

If anyone's interested, this is the site:

Have a great day/weekend everyone! :wave2:

Happy Saturday, everyone,

I have a six mile run scheduled this morning followed with helping my daughter at 2 Girl Scout cookie booths this afternoon and tomorrow. I know what is going to happen; I'll do well in the run and then my mind will start thinking, you can have some of those cookies because you just ran 6 miles. I'm happy to be going to Orlando and leaving the junk food behind. I always eat better on vacation than I do at home. I'm pretty sure that is an indication that my eating habits are directly related to stress levels.

I still haven't figured out what I'll refuel with during the race. The gus and gels give me awful indigestion. Anyone have a suggestion for me?

Saylan: how is the injury?

Vicky: I just completed the push up challenge initial test. In fact, my arms are still burning as I type this. Great news that you can start running again soon!

Everyone else:
Wishing you a beautiful weekend!

Hi Everyone!

Just a quick Fly By-I am sorry but I just do not have time to read and
keep up with all the post. My daily schedule is full.

DD’s health is not improving and she takes a lot of care.
she has been using the walker for the past 3 weeks.
They put her on steriods last week and she is now able to get around mostly on her own.

It did sound like everyone is doing great and the Team Race Calendar is
looking awesome!

pixiedust: to all those who are sick and injured!

I told Captain Vicky that I was not able to do any more of the WDW Races
and WISH it Totally Disney - you guys are a great Disney Team! :mickeyjum

Did start training for the Kalamazoo Half Marathon on May 8th
with Nikki this past week.

Weather is Frightful here tonight!

Take Care and Happy Training.

Hello team!

Life has been very busy lately so I haven't had time to post before now.

Regina - DH and I did get bikes, but we haven't gotten a chance to ride them between the recent rain and not wanting to ride in the dark.

Saylan and Elizabeth - Good luck at the Princess!

Margie - Good to hear from you! pixiedust: for your DD.

Vicky - That's great news that you can start running soon.

Beth - Hope you had a fabulous trip!

AFM - Been really busy this week and now have a cold, so I've only done a couple workouts this week. Last Sunday, DH and I went for a two mile run. We took a 2 minute break between the miles, but we ran both miles without stopping. This is the first time I've run a mile in very long time. I'm taking a Zumba class too. I've been to 3 classes and its alright but I don't think it's for me.

DH and I leave for Michigan at the end of the week. My friend from college is getting married.

We've signed up for another race. We're doing the Pasadena 10k on May 15.

pixiedust: for those who need it!

Have a good night!
Emily

Happy Monday, everyone!

Hi, Margie: So great to hear from you! I'm happy to read that the steroids are currently helping your daughter's mobility. You are a fabulous mother and grandmother.

Thanks, Emily:
I'm as ready for the race as I'll ever be and really looking forward to a girls weekend with my BFF.

I ran 7.5 miles on Saturday and experienced some serious foot fatigue while wearing my orthotics. I may not run with them. I also lost my car key on the trail. I retraced my steps but never did find it. The good news is that I avoided the cookies and all other junk food afterward so I'll call my last long run a success.

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Today we had French toast on raisin bread that I made yesterday (in a bread machine). My normal breakfasts are kashi crunch w/fruit and Greek yogurt. I would be lucky to do 10 push-ups, and those would be from the knees, if I did them from my toes, I would be lucky to do 1!

Margie - Great to hear from you! Pixie Dust for your DD! Have fun with your training for the Kalamazoo Half!

Emily - Good to hear from you! PD for your cold!

Elizabeth - I told Scott that when the Girl Scout cookies we ordered show up, I am putting them straight into the freezer! Good for you avoiding the cookies!

AFM - Not much over the weekend, we spent Sat helping a friend tear apart a kitchen for a remodel, I spent most of the day sweeping up old insulation, bagging it and carrying bags of it out to the trash! Scott did the hard work! Sunday was just a short dog walk and a few minutes on the spin bike. Today I am hoping to spend more time on the bike - Scott was down on it this morning while waiting for me to get up.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Went out to attempt over 6 mile bike ride around Celebration pulled myself off after logging in 13.1 miles. Just for a quick measure run for .25 mile. 86 degrees today out in sunny Fla today.

Been adding when at work 2 walking laps around the Boardwalk which comes to be 1.6 miles.

Utilidor walk last week was surely something different and very fun. So much to see down there. Must protect the Magic- but yes very weird to see characters off-stage

Good Morning Team!

Great job Gerry!

AFM - just a short dog walk around the block (still windy and cool), and 1 hour on the spin bike, neglected the weights and Pilates, so will have to make up for that today!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Good morning team! Hope everyone had a great long weekend :) The weather was nice and sunny here but still pretty cold! It was nice to have a day off anyway! Thought I'd better give our thread a bump back up to the top!

Gerry - Good job on the bike ride and getting in the miles while at work! I wish we would get some of the warm weather you have in FL!

Lynn - The French toast sounds yummy! I wish I had a bread machine :) I love fresh bread! Is your friend doing the remodel by themselves or hiring contractors for part of the job? How's your knee doing?

Elizabeth - Good job on the 7.5 miler! Do you keep a spare key hidden? How did you get your car started? Too bad I'm not going to the Princess! I'd buy a few boxes of Girl Scout cookies! We don't get the same flavours in Canada :( What week are you on of the Pushup Challenge? I'm starting week 4 but it looks tough!

Emily - Good job on the run! I'll add your race to the team calendar! I'm not much of a Zumba person myself - I have zero coordination  Have a safe trip this week and have fun at the wedding!

Margie - and pixiedust: for DD! You're always welcome to post and we miss you lots! Don't worry whether its a Disney race or not - I'm not sure if I'm going to be doing another Disney race for a while either.

Sue/Kim - How was the long weekend?

Saylan - How's your ankle doing? Did you get results from the xray?

AFM - I'm canceling my flight to Florida today. I had been holding off to see if there would be a winter storm or something like that. Then there would be a chance of a full refund. Oh well, maybe I should go and buy a lotto ticket instead  I'm having someone at work pick up my race packet - I figured I might as well collect my shirt and little food samples since I paid for it. Registration for MCM opens tomorrow at noon and I'm thinking I'm going to register for the full...

I did a lot of cooking and baking this weekend! I made a batch of dairy free cupcakes for a friend to celebrate her getting a new job! It was my first time making cupcakes that didn't have traditional ingredients but they turned out really well I think. I also made a roast chicken for the first time. It was pretty easy but it has to cook for a loooooonnnngg time

I also watched 'The Fighter' and 'True Grit' on the weekend which means I've seen all the best pic nominees! Yay! I do want to see 'How to Train Your Dragon' but I do think 'Toy Story 3' will win.

Got in some workouts and my ankle seems to be doing better! Yesterday I worked out with a different trainer and we did a lot of core work and a mini boxing workout. I think I badly needed that cardio and butt kick - I am really sore today! Food-wise, I've been pretty good this weekend. I couldn't cut out the sugar but I stayed low sugar, it's a start :)

I hope to get to the gym tonight and use the bike for a bit and to get my pushups in :)

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

This will probably be my last post before I head to Orlando to enjoy the same beautiful weather that Gerry is experiencing. I'm a bit nervous about my first half but still excited too.

My DH brought my spare key to the trail. Mentally, it was a bad day for me so I'm not surprised that I lost it.

Regarding the push ups challenge: I just started week 1; column 2. It's a fun exercise and I hope that I can keep it up. I need all the help I can muster to fight off flabby arms.;)

Saylan: Hope to see you in Orlando!

Everyone: Enjoy the rest of the week!

Elizabeth

Hi Team,

I'm checking in after another long abscence! I just got done working 24 of 26 days, as an excuse. I've accessed facebook on my phone during my lunch breaks, but haven't really been online. I'll try and catch up on everyone's posts.

Lots going on here again! I finally started training again last week, running some 5K distances, and one eight miler. The eight miler was outside with our gyms run club on part of the course for the upcoming half marathon that I am running in March. It was very, VERY hilly and this will be the toughest race that I have ever done. But, I will survive and conquer!

I just booked the room and park tickets for the Disneyland Half! Now I am really excited! I highly recommend Bill K at GET travel. He was great on the phone and answered all my questions and made some great suggestions. We will be staying at the Disneyland Hotel with four days at the Disney parks, a trip to Universal and at least one day at the beach. I am also thinking of signing up for the 5k.

We are also looking into getting new cell phones, probably the new Thunderbolt model by HTC being released on Thursday. It's time for an upgrade, I want the new Disney apps!

New race for the calendar: Mike- July 23rd- Alexian Brothers Half marathon

Anyway, I hope that you are all well, and I wish good luck to all of the Princess racers!

-Mike :cool2:

It was a long weekend of watching my bf hang out with his friends who were down.

Vicky: I got 2 Nos and a Maybe on the possible stress fracture. My Physio is dead certain it's not only cause I walk perfectly fine without shoes. His ruling is contact injury (whatever that is). He's sending me to a pedorthist so I should know more then. I rested the whole weekend and did some upper body training on Monday. The shoes still hurt, so tonight I have to go out and find "2nd Skin Circles by Spenco". They look so pricey but apparently they're good for cushioning my ankle. My bf picked up "Second Skin Blister Pads" :rotfl:. They worked ok, but not enough to make doing the race comfortable.

I've been slacking in not icing my ankle as much as I should but tonight is veg night since Hellcats is on :lovestruc so I can definitely ice tonight. I see the pedorthist tomorrow so hopefully some more insight will be coming from that.

Elizabeth: Yeah! I can't wait. I couldn't get the temporary tattoo paper (17$/sheet :scared1:) so hopefully we can pick each other out.

I picked up an actual running skirt that was 50% off and it has like skin-tight bike shorts underneath with a pocket on it that will hold my camera perfectly so now I just need a method to hold my waterbottle and GUs. This will make it a lot easier since most of the waterbelts' pockets were much too small for the camera.

I've been MIA a bit mainly cause I'm struggling with a lot of frustration. Some at my feet, most at my work. I'm losing sleep over it and I know it's turning me into a stressed out whacko. I'm trying to spend some time figuring out what I want my end career goal to be so I can see where I need to go (and going is a must, before this place breaks my spirit completely!). :sad2:

Best of luck in training, races, health, team mates! I'll try to check in more before I leave. Friday (heck, Thursday night) can't get here fast enough.

Vicky-

More races for the schedule:

Mike- March 27th Chi Town half marathon

Liz is also doing the Disneyland half in Sept.

Mike and Liz- Sept 3rd- Disneyland 5K

Thanks! -Mike :cool2:

Hi Team!

Lynn- I wish I was ambitious and that’s why I’ve been deep cleaning! We are moving as DH is now back in the military and is going to be stationed somewhere else. He will be getting his duty station in the next couple weeks and I hope to follow him within the next month or two. Thus, the reason I’m scrambling to get the house cleaned. Way to go on your 10 mile bike ride last week even though parts of it were a struggle. Remodeling sounds like lots of work! I’d much rather deep clean I think.

Vicky- Right now I’m shooting for the half. If things go really well and I think I can do it, I’ll give the full a try, but for now I’d like to get a few more half marathons under my belt. Haha, I wish I could do all the repairs myself! My FIL has been very helpful since DH is gone. I watched the Kids Are All Right and I didn’t like it either. I find when I overdo it on the sugar it helps me stay away from it for awhile as well. It just stops sounding good. Way to go on the pushups! I suck at them, but would like to be better with them someday. I’m glad your ankle is feeling better.

Sue- Well, I’m sure with spring on the way the spring cleaning bug will strike soon and maybe you’ll get some extra motivation there. :thumbsup2 Have you picked out any triathlons yet?

Elizabeth- I haven’t had the dish at WPE either. Well, I’m glad you finished your 7.5 miles and am sorry you lost your key. LOL, it's good DH was able to take you a spare!

Emily- Way to go on the 2 miles and signing up for a 10k. Sounds like fun! I hope you feel better soon.

Mike- How exciting your DL trip is booked! Woohoo!

Saylan- I’m sorry you’re having foot problems and frustration at work. I’ve been there and no how much it sucks to lose sleep over work. Good luck setting your career goal!! Hang in there!!!

AFM, I ran/walked today at the park with Sydney. It kicked my butt. It was cold and really windy, but I made it to the end so that’s good. My left shin has been giving me a little trouble the last few days. I’m going to keep an eye on it and hope it goes away. I don’t have time for shin problems darn it. My house, however, is looking so clean and decluttered! I think it helps that over half my house has been packed for weeks though. DH only has 3.5 weeks of basic training left so I’m counting down days there too.

Good luck to all the Princess racers this weekend!!!

Hello Team!

Vicky - I used to dance so coordination isn't much of a problem for me, but we've done the same routines every class so far. New routines are supposed to be introduced this week. I think I'd like it better if it was more dance than cardio workout. I haven't seen any of the best picture nominees, I've been wanting to see the King's Speech but haven't had a chance yet.

Lynn - Our girl scout cookies arrived today, DH was very happy. I couldn't resist eating a few but I put the rest away.

Mike - Your DL plans sound like a lot of fun!

AFM - My cold is starting to clear up. Went for a short walk last night.

pixiedust: for all who need it.

Have a good night,
Emily

Squeaking in one more post while I'm up packing for tomorrow's flight. Tell me, where would you suggest a pre-race or post-race dinner? I thought I might try to snag a few ADRs as soon as I get there.

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - the bread machine is fun. Friends are doing some themselves and contractors in for fixing the electrical problems we found when tearing out dry wall, a plumber in, we will help them put up new dry wall - probably this weekend. I am not sure if they are installing the new cabinets themselves or someone is coming in to do that for them. the knee has not been too bad as long as I exercise on it daily - it gets worse when I skip a day of exercise. Glad to hear your ankle is doing better!

Saylan - Good luck on the Princess! Hope your ankle is better for the race! Hope your visit to the pediatrist helps! PD for your work situation - hope it improves quickly!

Emily - We have not yet seen our cookies, but I am not complaining - do not need the temptation! Glad to hear your cold is getting better.

Regina - Good luck with the move. I remembered when we were selling our house a few years ago, we were told to declutter, and the garage was half full with boxes by the time we were done “decluttering”!

Mike - Good to hear from you again! Maybe we will run into each other at the DL half - we have reservations, still do not know if we will be walking or volunteering. We will be at the Grand Californian.

Elizabeth - Have a good race! You will have fun I am sure! Safe travels! Our post-race dinner is usually at the Rain Forest Cafe (started that at Disneyland when we did not have park passes).

AFM - Again skipped the weight training, but did get in a dog walk and an hour on the spin bike. I am still managing to avoid the desserts.

Safe travels to all who are headed out to the Princess, or any other race this weekend, and have a great race!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi everyone!

Elizabeth - Before races, I've eaten at Wolfgang Puck, Tutto Italia and the PC food court. If you're just looking for something that's quick and easy, the food courts are a great alternative to eating in a restaurant. Post race, I've always gone to California Grill or the Yachtsman for dinner or WCC for lunch. If you're going to WCC for all you can eat, don't do it on the same day as another restaurant :)

Emily - Glad to hear your cold is going away! I wish I could dance but I have two left feet  It gets kind of boring when the instructor doesn't change the routine. That's one of the reasons I stopped going to yoga :( It's also stops being a good workout because your body adapts and burns less calories. Do you have a dance studio near you that offers classes? That might be a better fit than zumba.

Regina - WTG to go on your run! Do you have knee high compression socks? I've found those have helped with shin splint recovery for me. Also icing and gently massaging the area can help too! Good news on the countdown to the end of basic training :) I hope they send DH where you want to move to.

Saylan - Sorry to hear about the work stress! I hear ya there ... do you have access to career counsellors at work? They might be able to help you to figure out a career path and decide on some goals.

Icing is hard - it's boring. I'm one of those people who can't sit still for very long so I have to have my laptop with me or be watching a TV show. I've had a chiro tell me that if I had a stress fracture, it would be really painful. But keep icing and resting in the meantime :) and lots of pixiedust: that your ankle is better by Sunday.

Mike - I'll add your races to the calendar! That's a lot of work you're taking on there! Good to be busy :) Glad to hear you've got your DL trip booked!

Lynn - The home reno shows on TV always make it look projects look really rewarding but I imagine it's a TON of work. What kind of electrical problems did you find behind the walls? At least there wasn't an mold. Good job on keeping up with the no desserts! I've found the same thing with my knee when I had knee pain. It always felt better when I was exercising. I wonder if it has something to do with keeping the surrounding muscles warmed up.

AFM - I'm still sore from Monday's workout. With the amount of soreness, you'd think I haven't been to the gym in months or worked out ever. I guess I just got my butt kicked big time  I still went to the gym last night and rode the spin bike for about 40 minutes. I'm getting use to the seat so at least that doesn't bother me as much anymore. Doing pretty good with the eating as well - I stayed low sugar! I did make a pudding dessert with dates yesterday. The dates are high in sugar but there was no added sugar so I'm okay with it.

That's all for now! I'll check back in later! :wave2:
