I think I asked this before but I am going to try again because it's been awhile and I think I'm ready to take the plunge. Has anyone had the Japanese themal straightening procedure done? If so:

- how are the results
- what is your daily routine
- how often do you get touched up
- how much did you spend and how much are the touchups

Right now I have shoulder length very curly hair that I straighten with a blow dryer followed by a professional flat iron. Nobody can believe my hair is naturally curly (I get it that straight!!) Anyway, I had a consultation at Jean Madelaine and they said that I would still have to blow dry it straight with a special ionic hairdryer???? She quoted me $500 bucks for the first time and $400 every 8 - 9 months after that. I have another consultation elsewhere next week. Any suggestions/comments are appreciated.

Thanks!!!

I had a consulation at my local salon in Princeton and due to my highlights, I'm unable to get the full Japanese straightening. The process is done in two steps, the first uses a cream straightener which gets your hair approx 80% straignt. The second step is the thermal iron part, which gets the hair perfectly straight. I can't do the second step, because of my highlights. If you have ANY type of process done to your hair, BE CAREFUL. Luckily, I trust my salon, and they told me about the risks of the complete process. I'm thinking of doing the cream straightener, which will get most of the curl out, but I'll still have to use a brush to get it completely straight, just smooth the cuticle they told me. My hair runs just past my shoulders, and I have a TON of it. It takes me at least 45 minutes to get it completely straight, something I can't do everyday. Yes, a flat iron is usually involved. I was quoted $700 for the complete process, and $250 for just the cream straightener. I believe they said approx 1/2 the amount for touch ups, which they recommend every 6 months.

What! I've never heard of this. My hair definatly has waves and curls and I would love for it to be straight but $700 dollars

Could someone explain further. Is this a forever thing??

I have a friend who recently had this done and she absolutely loves it. I think she paid 400 or 500 but her bf is a hairdresser and the salon doing it knew him and she got a slight discount. She's had it done for a couple of months and it looks wonderful, she says she gets out of the shower ,blow dries it and thats it. Her hair was also very very curly.

It looks fabulous by the way,

Hope
