Hair loss after COVID - Question for hair colorists/stylists

I am happy to find this thread. I am concerned about my hair loss over the last year. I had thick, thick hair and have easily lost half of it in the last 8 months. My hair is so thin and fine now. My blood work is fine. I am mid-late 50s.

Is this a reaction to the vaccine, covid or aging?? Doc says don't worry about it. argh

Could be any of those, or any combination of them.

Hair loss is common with illness.

Our son lost hair after he had covid in February.

Our daughter lost her long, thick wavy blonde hair in copious amounts like you in 2019 when she had her first systemic lupus flare that caused her to be very ill until she was diagnosed. She was then put on steroids. She got sick in April and by August, her scalp showed on the sides when she pulled her hair back. When I realized this, I cried for her.

All this to say, 2 years later her hair finally looks normal, not frizzy, and the scalp is all covered. Though it's not extra thick like it was before.

She took all the vitamins. But it will take a while to grow back in.

With medication, she is now in remission and feels great.

Be patient. It will grow back, but it might be different.

Since this thread was bumped back up thought I would share my son's progress.

Our 23 year old son had Covid exactly a year ago- mild case.

But he had hair loss after that that bothered him.

About 3 months ago, he started using minoxidil. He has had remarkable progress. And his bald spot has filled in!

I wish we had tried this with our daughter when she lost so much hair. But her hair has grown back and is pretty again.
