Two of my boys really need haircuts....actually all three of them do but the oldest is going for the long hair look. But the younger two said they wanted to hold out and get their hair cut by the barber at the MK. We've never done this before, do we need to make a reservation or is it just walk-ins. What's the best time to go? Thanks

Walk-ins only, and if you can get there as soon as they open at 9:00. They tend to get VERY busy, we got there at 9:20, and already there were 3 people in front of us!!!! They do a GREAT job. My 1 year old who hates getting his hair cut, just sat there and had a GREAT time!!! My 5 year old DD, who also doesn't like getting her hair cut, is waiting until our trip in July for her next haircut!!!

My DD6 did this in February and it was a lot of fun. We went late morning and waited about 15 minutes. She had Mary who was very sweet to her and finished her off with Pink hair paint, confetti, and Mickey hair clips. What a deal, only $12 and what a special memory.

Now that we don't go commando it's one of our favorite places to hang out. All 3 of my guys (DH included) get cuts. It is walk in and I usually ask who we are after so there isn't too much confusion.

DD opted to have her hair braided at the Periwig Salon at the YC last trip and they did a great job, but the Barber Shop does very well with little girls!!

Have Fun:D

We just did this last week and it was a great experience for my 5 year old. We got there around 4:30/5 and there were 3 people ahead of us. We waited about 20 minutes- they have a few toys to keep the kids entertained as well. The stylists are extremely friendly and good at what they do. Sam got the blue hair gel at the end and was sprinkled with plenty of pixie dust. The barber also gave him about 20 stickers at the end. Very fun and $12 is a very fair price for a haircut anywhere. :) I can't wait to see my pictures of it.

I wa wondering about this as well. Can they just go in and have it styled? I was going to let the kids get their haircuts at MK--but it will be Spring break and I'm worried I'll have kids with way too long hair if they can't fit them in!!! They really want the cool stuff--gel etc, but I don't want them looking like they need a haircut for too many days of the trip if I can't get in!!! Ideas??Experiences???

I was lucky enough to be at WDW when my DS was in need of his first haircut. They did a great job (didn't cry at all). In fact, I don't even think he knew he was getting his haircut. The barber entertained him with stickers throughout the cut. He also received Micky ears with "First Haircut" embroidered on the back. It was a great experience.

I thought having the boys get their hair cut at MK was a good idea, now I can't wait, it sounds like a blast. I'm going to tell my DD about it too, I bet she'll want a trim also. Since we get to Disney almost every year...only skip the years we're on the cruise...I try to find something new each time we go. I think it's so fun to try some of the none main stream things.

Patsal, I have the same concern about the kids starting vacation looking so un-kept. Believe me my boys really need a haircut...normally I have everything planned right down to everyone having a haircut right before we go. I've decided I'd rather have the experience of the haircut at the MK than having them look good for the first part of the vacation. We're spending two days over at Universal before we even get to Disney, I'm thinking hats will make a nice souvenir at Universal. And then I'll get them over to the MK our first day at Disney.

Thank you everyone for your quick responses, they were great!

I guess the hat thing will solve the problem--thanks for the suggestion!! DD can easily use baretts to keep the bangs out of her eyes if need be! I really think the something new and different will be worth my relaxing on the "haircuts before we leave issue!" Enjoy your vacation!

Two words: Glow-in-the-Dark Gel!

My son (10) got his haircut at the MK barber during our last trip.
It was our first time trying this. We only had a 10 minute wait. There were two people in the chairs already when we got there and this was after lunch at MK on a Thursday. But the parks were dead all week so not really a suprise.

The Barber used a very light green gel on my son's head, which he also applied to his nose, his ears, etc. Anyway this gel glows in Blacklight. Here's a great picture of it from BuzzLight Year:

The barber also got my whole family with the glitter, since we were laughing at my son. (That's me, my mother and my father)
We had quite a few comments while we walked around afterwards. We were the glitter family. ;)

Have Fun!!

I did this a month or so ago for the first time. I had to keep coming back (there was only one barber that day) and finally got in the last slot of the day, except she opened up for a cast member.

They accept credit cards and I used mine. My bill had it listed as "REV CURR CTRL NORTH." What's that all about??

FORCE your oldest son to get his hair cut, that shaggy look ppl. are trying for looks grotesque and brings some hygiene problems.

How about adults? We're traveling with a 3 year old girl who will be getting her first real haircut, and I was planning on getting mine trimmed as well. My hair is long though, and I've heard they don't do like...full wash and styles, so I'm wondering - will they still take a couple inches off me?

We just got back last week and my daughter had her ds4 and dd2's hair cut at the MK barber shop. DGS had his choice of colored gel and that was topped with pixie dust. DGD had her first haircut and for that she received a set of Mickey ears and a certificate. If you check the link below to my webshots page, you'll get the idea. It was really fun for us all and we were the only ones in there at 10am!

My DH had his hair cut there last year and they did a really good job.

Have been getting the remaining hairs:( trimmed off the cueball 3-4 times a year. Just like anything in Disney it makes you feel like a little kid again.:)

wow, now I really can't wait to have my daughter get her first haircut in Disney! I just hope she has enough hair on her head to have a haircut since she'll be 11 months old on our trip.

Wanted to show you a picture of my son after getting his hair cut at the MK barbershop! He got red gel, and pixie dust. He loved it so much, he didn't wash his hair that night just so he wouldn't lose the pixiedust.

Our DS8 (at the time) loved getting his hair cut there even more than his three-year-old brother. We were able to get in without waiting during the 3:00 parade.

DH and DD (age 8) both had theirs cut last Aug. It was fun for both of them. DD got to sprinkle lots of pixie dust on dad and boy did she get him good. We were there in the afternoon and there were about 2 ahead of us and 3 behind us, all cast members. Even if you have to wait it is still fun.
:earsgirl:

This may be the stupidest question ever...but where is the barber shop at MK? This sounds like a really great thing to do!
